3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

aw man, wish Discover was doing that shit...they do add 1 year to the manufacture warranty though, that's something.

any of ya'll know about my k-mart question though?
 
Mine shipped from New Egg, but says estimated delivery is the 22nd. I hope its off by a day. It shipped on Friday with 3-day shipping.
 
With my new job I have a much longer commute on public transportation so I am eyeing getting a DSi XL or 3DS XL. I have quite a few DS RPGs that I've been wanting to play and no 3DS games nor do I have any plans on getting any 3DS games in the near future.

Any advice? I really want it because I think the DSi I already have is way too small for my hands. My first instinct is to get a DSi XL so that DSi games can use the big screen without looking too stretched (I know the screen is bigger than original DS, but it's better than stretching it to the new resolution.) But it seems so silly to spend $120 on a DSi XL when the 3DS XL is only $200.

You can get a 3ds with 1 free game for £169 at amazon.co.uk... That's the cheapest I know of in UK. The game choices include mario 3ds land, zelda, resident evil and theatrhythm.

Haha, thanks! :P I just hope my screen protectors I got from Amazon arrive around the same time. I'm not opening my 3DS XL box without having them to put on. Thankfully the estimated delivery for that is around the same time I should get the XL.

Close, they are slightly smaller.

I got a Blue XL to go with my Zelda 3DS, used the Amazon deal and will be selling Mario 3D Land, so around £150 total.

Found 1 dead pixel on the touch screen, but it's not noticeable when actually playing games and I'd rather not send it back and end up with worse issues like a dead pixel on the top screen, or a yellow top screen.

Same here. My xl and hori protectors are estimated for Wednesday.
 
Why cant some store break street date! I want to just go out and pick up this and KI as I've been holding out on getting a 3ds since the XL was announced. I even went to staples thanks to a post in here and they dont even carry video game stuff at mine.
First world problems.

I'm pretty sure Canadian Staples is different from American Staples.

I'm thinking of heading out to Walmart at midnight, myself. My work shift is too early to drop by Gamestop, considering how late they open on Sundays.

Ok, so who here in NA are going out for a midnight release? I'm starting a line early and bringing my 3DS to pass the time with a friend. Going to be a fun wait :)

We will, without a doubt, be the only two there lol...
 
I got the DS and the 3DS at midnight from GameStop. I preordered the XL from newegg just to save on tax this time though. I'm starting to regret it though since it isn't due to be delivered until Wednesday!

I'm starting to feel the same way. Working overtime all day today and I would have liked to been able to go home and grab it at a midnight release so that I could play all day tomorrow. Oh well.

Did you pre-order in-store? I was hoping I could pre-order for store pickup but that's not an option on their website :(

Edit: I'm pretty sure the reason that XLs are shipping from California is that Nintendo's sends their stock there by ship (literally). It's probably faster to send them direct from California instead of shipping them to their east coast warehouses first.

That makes sense. It usually goes through the town where I work and takes an extra day to get to my house so I'll have to keep an eye on it and see if I can pick it up here.

I fucking hate Nintendo. Why must you consistently make such shitty hardware with backwards ass thinking (single nub, low res screens, low res cameras, shitty CPU and GPU from 8 years ago and a meager amount of ram), and such amazing games.

If only there was a way I could play their amazing games without having to buy into their crap gaming systems.

What I would give to live in a world where either Nintendo has Sony's stellar hardware engineers or Sony has Nintendos stellar software developers.

I was gobsmacked that a desired piece of hardware + NSMB2 couldn't ensure a midnight launch, but sometimes shitty niche console games can have a midnight launch.

I just think it was her way of saying they didndt find Mario + XL worth their time, they'd much rather just start selling them at 10 am the next morning.

The store manager at my GameStop said "Midnight launches and our holiday season starts with Madden."

Ooh, just about 24 hours between me and my 3DS XL.
 
Awesome games, shitty hardware (low res screens, low res cameras, shitty CPU and GPU from 8 years ago) and dumb decisions (single nub, crappy online and os). Really makes its hard to justify forking down good money for bad hardware, even if the games are solid.

I wish could play their amazing games without having to buy into their crap hardware.

It's not even up for debate at this point. It's a fact that Nintendo makes good games and crap outdated hardware that is a generation behind everyone else.

I don't know why reporters never challenge Nintendo to answer why their engineers consistely insist on designing around 8 year old tech, even as multiple third party devs are practically begging them to use beefier components that give them more power and flexibility to work with.

Nintendo troll post template. Will need minor tweaking for Wii U, but you're basically good to go.
 
Just pre-paid for a red XL at gamestop. There was also a family in there asking about trade-in and they said $100 so it's pretty much confirmed.

This will be my first Nintendo handheld purchase so I'm pretty excited.
For now I picked up Super Mario land 3D and Zelda, but will probably get KI next and Tetris for the wife.

Now the wait until 10am tomorrow....
 
Called GS this morning, they said they're going to have the deal, and they're also going to let me buy the XL for full price, take it home, do the transfer, and let me bring my original 3DS back and they'll credit me the $100 trade-in bonus back. Very happy about that.

Because Nintendo keeps making the same dumbass decision to use outdated tech in both their handhelds and their consoles. Of course you're going to hear that same complaint over and over again about everyone of their devices in the past decade, from both gamers and game developers.

If you keep fucking up in the exact same way again and again. Expect to hear people bitch about your fuck up the same way, again and again.
