3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

A tad absurd we're so excited for a handheld that is technically equivalent to one that we already own :/

One more day.

I'll admit the silliness has struck me.

In my personal case, I don't mind as I got my launch 3DS for almost free thanks to some credit and trade-ins of stuff I really didn't need at all. So I kind of coasted on to ambassador bonuses and such free gratis.

The XL is so nice looking, I have no problem paying that price for something with such huge screens and better battery life.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I'm also getting the XL with mostly credit too so I'm not complaining. Plus, I'll be turning around my original 3DS into more credit as soon as I do my system transfer.

I can't wait till Sunday! I'm glad Ninty went with the XL first instead of a stop-gap 3DSi or something.

Best part? I'm getting it for $80! Future Shop is having a trade 5, get it free promo with the XL, and a ton of the eligible games are available from a local trading site for $20 or less! So pumped!

Which site, please?

Oh, and if I do actually get an XL, it will be the blue one, because, well...

Holy crap, Nintendo really gouging the price on the XL cradle alone.

The retail price for the AC adapter AND cradle for the standard 3DS is $13.99.
The cradle alone is $4.00 on their store.

Most likely because they already include a cradle and a charger with the original 3DS, so they don't really need to mark it up as much to make profit.

Any word as to if Gamestop is doing a midnight launch?

Heck, I'd consider even opening up my 4G tether in the store for people who want to do transfers. ;)

I got a bullshit answer from a GameStop manager friend:

"No, not enough preorders and e demographic doesn't skew adequately to justify the hours."

I was gobsmacked that a desired piece of hardware + NSMB2 couldn't ensure a midnight launch, but sometimes shitty niche console games can have a midnight launch.

I just think it was her way of saying they didndt find Mario + XL worth their time, they'd much rather just start selling them at 10 am the next morning.

:(

We are part of the VitaGaf, but hopefully you'll discover the wonderful 3DS software that is in abundance.

I have over 26 retail games, ranging from Tales of Abyss, Ace Combat to Fatal Frame, Resident Evil to StarFox....

Pretty diverse library For the system now ^_^

In giving my old one to my brother so I don't feel bad at all. :)

I wonder how many people have been turned into Nintendo fans because of hand-down systems from friends or family? I have given away a DS Phat to my best friend, a DS Lite to my niece, and am going to give the original 3DS to my dad.

I have absolutely no problem giving away things I will never use again to spread that Nintendo love to others. I mean, what other system can I give to a 13, 28, and 70 year old and have them all absolutely love them.

Handhelds, especially Nintendo ones, are children first in demographic, and that demographic doesn't pre-order or go to midnight launches. On top of that the handheld market in the West is ailing at the moment, and a 200 dollar revision that doesn't make any serious changes may not reignite that flame. I'm the only one with a 3DS I know of that's buying it, and it's mostly just because I was a big fanthing for the DSi XL (wish we could have a Bronze 3DS XL)

I gotta also imagine that GameStop specifically may not deal in Nintendo hardware and software as much as a Walmart, etc. He was probably telling you the truth overall.

I don't think either machine has more than a few really good games currently...but with 26 games I ain't gonna argue any of it with you. :lol I do think the 3DS will be sitting a lot prettier by the end of the year, I just hope Atlus gets on EO4 pretty quickly (or doesn't flake out on it entirely, ugh), That will be really nice on the XL.

what site?!

Just a local trading site, kinda like Craigslist or Kijiji, but specifically for my local municipality. I just bought AC: Rev, BF3, UFC 3, and CoD: MW3 for $20 a pop. There's a list of eligible titles here:

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/cate...spx?path=cb8953c32d74b1f39e3f640a2828c302en01

Shouldn't be too hard to find used copies of these games directly from other people. If I can do it in a city of 20k people, I'm sure others can do it in larger ones.

Also, I'm using the same list to trade in my copy of NHL 12 for NSMB 2 :D

Funny you say that. I got my cosuin's old NES with Mario and Duck Hunt back when I was 4. 2 years later I got an SNES.

So if it wasn't for my cousin giving me the system, I more than likely wouldn't be into gaming today.

Oh boy, mine shipped from newegg. CA to AZ but the estimated delivery date is still the 21st. Oh well my screen protectors are estimated for the 22nd so I guess I'd have to wait anyways :(

I always found the upscale to be fine, it gets a bit desaturated and gains a bit of blur, but it's very tame and well done for what it is, IMO.

Putting up with low-res console games has made me pretty fine with things not being pixel perfect, though! I think I'll be sticking with the full mode.

System and the AC adapter. They said they didn't need the SD card.

They don't ask for the cradle either right? I just recently moved and that's in my 3DS box, which is in another box somewhere and I don't wanna go searching for it if I don't need to.

Bah! Jealous of all you newegg folk! I hope lockerz follows suit.
I felt the same way. But then I remembered that I got it for $168 and I have a lot of PC games in my backlog anyways that I'll be playing in the next few days.

Yeah, i'm happy about the deal but I always love getting the newest gadgets as soon as they come out. Lurking this thread is not helping with the wait, not to mention I have another week until college starts :/

I'm putting my 3DS and DSi on ebay tomorrow because I figure I won't need either of them with the XL (better 3DS and a good DS player unlike the 3DS). I'll still have my lite. I wish the XL was coming in better colors. Did anyone figure out if switching the outside plates is easy? I hate the Blue and the Red is totally meh. Would love just all black.

Taking the plates off is apparently easy, but there are no 3rd party replacement shells to switch them with. I can't imagine it being too difficult though

I'm thinking of buying a 3DS XL to replace my creaky 3DS with a broken 3D slider and an aged battery that can't play DS (yup, original DS) games for more than 4 hours. The main problem? I'm not sure which retailer accepts orders that ship to Singapore.

By the way, I'm looking for a North American or Southeast Asia model (which I bet does not exist yet for the latter; in case you didn't know, there exists a rebadged NA version sold in Singapore, Malaysia, UAE and stuff that plays NA-region games)

Play-Asia carry US consoles.

Why do you think that, whoever is in charge for the singapore, saudi etc region has been doing a pretty good job with releases lately. We've been getting games at the same time if not a week early/late.

Probably, but it's more of a convenience thing. :P I don't feel like walking out to buy something gaming-related these days.

Also, I think I'll settle with just a USB cable, since my phone's wall adaptor has a USB port.

The local distributor Maxsoft NA 3DS XL is in stores already. SGD$319 is the retail price. You can find it for $309. I think its cheaper than buying online.

Cool, huh? I think I might want to go out and try finding that.

As for the USB cable or AC adaptor... That would be no matter, though finding a USB-to-DSi/3DS cable could come in handy for charging.

I teach a "booth babe" private English lessons on the weekends (in Japan).

Her opinion on the 3DS LL: "I can't believe America gets the best colour! Did you see that awesome commercial with Penelope Cruz and her sister?"

She wasn't aware that white was the best colour apparently.

$20 Gaming Coupon with purchase of a Nintendo 3DS XL gaming console

Can't use the coupon until August 26th.

easily the best of the bunch! however
CAG says the coupon expires 10/13, and Zero Escape comes out 10/23. there's no listing for said game on kmart.com, and id have to have this thing expire with nothing else i want out in time - do they usually add titles closer to their release date online, or am i gonna have to buy another game & exchange it a week or so later, assuming they'd even carry this title?
