Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Was there ever a GAF only 'what class are you rolling' poll?

On gafguild.com there is.

Does that mean their server and ours can fight it out? Or is WvW restricted by region?

Wvw is region restricted, ANet didn't want latency to be a potential issue even though every EU player I've seen who rolled on an NA server, even those with regularly slow connections, has said there was no noticable lag.

I don't believe they mix US and EU worlds together into the WvW matchup, but I'm not 100% sure there.

The only reason I think they don't is because of the time differences. Peak hours for the EU would be occurring during low hours for the US and inversely. This would lead to some uninteresting matches in WvW.

But I'm not 100% sure here, maybe someone else knows for sure.

What a waste that Twilight Arbor video is.

I asked myself a minute in if he was really going to stare at the ground the entire video, and he didn't disappoint.

I've downloaded the client and have it updated in preparation but there hasn't been any installation. Is the whole game really only 3 files (1 being 15GB) or will there be an installation process on release?
Or have I fucked up and downloaded the wrong thing :)

Can you make sure your gamepad config gets into the official topic starter? I think it would be a great place to share it.

And how to set the bloody thing up.

That's not for me to decide, but Jira. :) I do realize OT space is at a premium and this is a subject that might not be of interest to everyone... but it does seem to be a topic that comes up once and again.

Supposing there's enough space in the OT, perhaps the best thing to do would be to link the GAFGuild thread, since not only is there a link to my prepared bundle (which itself includes instructions), there's also some healthy discussion going on. Including a possible third configuration of mine I'm eager to test in retail, and will of course include as well in the bundle if it works well.

On the other hand, linking straight to my bundle (or rather, the blog post that links to it, so that I can update it as I upload new versions of the bundle) would have the advantage of saving one hop and also make it visible to people not registered with GAFGuild. If that was the case, I would do the opposite, i.e. include a link back to the thread in the blog post.

I tip my hat to you, sir. Can't wait for Shadowrun Returns.

Thanks! My story with Shadowrun must be the strangest ever in the story of RPGs. I bought the paper & pencil RPG manual and several modules, but never ever got to play it (it was a joy to read, though, as I loved the setting). Around that time, I rented and played the SNES game (yes, this was WAAYYYY back) finished it and loved it. Also around that timeframe, I think, I read the novels (which I remember as being quite good, actually).

Quite a few years later, I also rented the Megadrive/Genesis game quite later on, and again, even though it's so different, I loved it (can only remember that you took contracts and that the hacking looked like Phantasy Star 2 and was quite cool :D).

Many, many years later, I downloaded the demo of the current gen FPS, but, since I have no interest in FPS games whatsoever, it wasn't meant to be. :)

Famous last words.

I really don't understand why people think the servers are going to be down for the entire weekend or something. They've been performing stress tests with probably over half of the people that are going to log in on Saturday, and the later ones have been fine. Heck, they tried to crash Divinity's Reach and couldn't do so. I'm not saying it's going to be buttery smooth, but I don't think it's going to be the catastrophe people are expecting.

That said, I do know many prepare for the worst so that they can't be disappointed, only pleasantly surprised, but really, in the end one only ends up being cynical (and wrong most of the time, to boot :P).

I was wondering, as I didn't really look at crafting that much in detail, when you craft something can you put your own unique dyes on it and sell it with those colour schemes? Would be a cool way to be a 'unique' crafter/earn money if you had rare/interesting dyes.

What a waste that Twilight Arbor video is.

I asked myself a minute in if he was really going to stare at the ground the entire video, and he didn't disappoint.

I really couldn't believe how poor quality it was, considering it was directly from a major published source like PC Gamer. The framerate was terrible, the camera work was terrible, and even the microphone quality was worse than what I would expect from an average fan's headset microphone.

You have to be wearing the item to dye it, so itll be bound at that point

Its an interesting idea, but just doesnt seem feasible with the global trading post and the way they set up buy and sell bids.

I didnt spend much time at the AH, but did you even have the option of going through a huge list of all of the power chain gloves (or whatever)?

You are fine. I'm unsure has to how much content was released in the wild already but your file size is correct. Some people's DAT files are larger, depending on how much content they've played through in the beta.

Just keep checking daily.

I had to stop watching when he tried to hit a spider for half a minute or so while targeting another mob

Pre-purchased and ready to roll!

Well, you guys just saved me 12 minutes.

Weird when I do that. I get the message ...

Serial Code Overlap

The serial code has already been applied to your account.

I honestly do not remember adding that to my account but I guess it happened somehow. Should I assume by that message I am all set then?

I... guess... so? I was going by the bit in the FAQ:
Guild Wars 2 FAQ said:
Can I upgrade my Pre-Order to a Pre-Purchase?
If you are a Pre-Order customer, you can pre-purchase Guild Wars 2 from our store or from an approved retailer. If you have already registered your Guild Wars 2 Pre-Order account, you can upgrade your account at register.guildwars2.com. To link your Pre-Purchase serial code to your existing account, just enter your new serial code in the field, click "Yes" under "Do you have a Guild Wars account?" and follow the steps from there. For a list of approved retailers, go here.

So either you did put the code in early, or it's a generic message that really means that the old code is still connected to your account. I'm guessing it's the former, but if you're really unsure you can leave a support ticket and it'll get sorted out within 24 hours.

You know, you don't need to target something to actually hit it if you are in range.

True - but if you click-target a mob - your ranged attacks will go for who you have targeted, providing you are LoS and within range.

Edit: I didn't watch the video tho so I don't know his exact actions.

cancelled my amazon order, went for the digital edition directly from arneanet.. will probably not get to play in those 3 days early access, but that "fuck those 7 euros, support these guys" feeling won.
just from watching gameplay videos. can't wait to get my hands on it. leaning towards an asura necro currently.

... ah, who am I kidding? I'll just stop sleeping alltogether starting saturday.

How convenient or unconvenient is it when you need to type stuff in the chat window?

I can't see it any different from having to move my mouse hand to the KB. Plus, once I get rolling with an MMO I tend to be in vent more than typing.

But I don't have it yet so really can't say either way! It seems like it would just be moving both hands to the center instead of just one though.

Fun fact, the poisoned drink at Jonestown was Grape flavored, and it wasn't actually Kool-Aid but Flavor-Aid.

Flavor-Aid is terrible, that would kill anybody.

Ok, I think I have my choice. Either Warrior or Guardian and for Race, either Norn or Human.
Anyone who played the BWE as either warrior and/ or guardian that wants to comment on the pros for either?

I first tried Guardian but didn't think the defensive abilities were that useful (or perhaps I didn't pay enough attention to the buff icons) so I chose an 100% aggressive character and re-rolled a Warrior. Had a lot of fun with it.

Guardian isn't bad, it just plays differently.

If you like girls with abs or have a giantess fetish, pick Norn.

Girls with abs are not a bad thing.

Just purchased the DDE. Looking forward to using Thief (maybe). I like the dual pistol build.. something about having long range damage and evasion seems like it'd be fun in pvp. Not sure what this combo business is.

It's very difficult, there are a lot of builds and different ways of playing each class.

Warrior :

- Very good melee and range DPS (rifle own ^^).
- Good HP, good armor.

Guardian :

- Best defensive skills in the game.
- A lot of support skills to buff, regen hp, and dispel debuff.
- Average HP, good armor.

Did anyone else pre-order from Gamestop? On my 5$ pre-order receipt it says "Your code to access the Guild Wars 2 Beta along with 3 Day Early Access and the Heros Band is Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" But everything else is saying you have to pre-purchase to get the 3 day early access. Anyone else have any clarification on this? Wondering if I should just go pay the rest off, but I am not sure if they will give me a different code.

Doesn't seem to be anywhere on the gw2 site to check if you have 3 day head start or 1 day.
