Will they stream the honeymoon, too?

"Yo, he's IN THERE!"

"Mark's getting Blown Up right now!"

"He's lightning looping her"

"She didn't even try to block the DP!"

I'm pretty sure that's an infinite.

Here comes the fuzzy...

Injustice: NetherRealm developing new system to push DLC characters to users' consoles

NetherRealm Studios is developing a new system to push Injustice: Gods Among Us downloadable content to all users' consoles.

The idea is that the game will connect to the internet whenever it's played and download the information required so that you'll be able to play against those who use DLC characters even if you haven't bought them.

"In Mortal Kombat we had downloadable characters," NetherRealm boss Ed Boon told Eurogamer. "We want to come up with a way to push all that information onto people's machines so if I buy some character that was available for download, you would have it on your machine and I would be able to fight against you online.

"We're coming up with a great automated system to make sure I can use my character against anybody and everything's compatible."

With the release of Street Fighter x Tekken Japanese company Capcom came in for criticism for including DLC characters on-disc. There were then unlocked once players forked out cash for them.

"All of the DLC stuff will be downloadable," Boon confirmed. "We're not going to have it on the disc already and you unlock it. We want to make sure we get it onto people's machines."

When Mortal Kombat launched last year fans complained about the online game, with crippling lag experienced by many. Boon said the development team had worked to improve this for Injustice, the DC fighting game due out next year.

"Every game we try to look back and see what could have been better," he said. "We're optimising our network code. For the inputs being sent back and forth we have a new, more elaborate system. And then we also have more things where groups of people participate in more of a round robin, and there's a meta-game in there. There's a lot of cool stuff coming for online."

For Injustice NetherRealm will use the system it introduced with Mortal Kombat for updates and patches that allows the developer to make tweaks to the game without players having to download any data.

That's great and all, but the news story I want to read is "Injustice: NetherRealm convinces platform holders to allow new system to push DLC characters to users' consoles."

Do people hate downloading compatibility packs that much? I can see their from their end though, if they have to pay the first party for every pack they put it up.

Maybe the MK players can correct me, but the way the temp hot updating worked in MK9, when you went online, the changes weren't permanently saved, correct? If you turned off the machine, all the changes are lost, right?

Will be interesting if Sony/MS lets them save all the changes permanently without an official TU.

Do the MK guys like when NRS is messing around with frame data and the like all the time?

I assume that's their main angle behind the scenes. I don't know for sure if MS/Sony charge extra for that though, and if they treat it just like a patch. I assume they test it though, so they probably do.

It's probably because of how much shit Capcpom got for SFXT's on disc DLC.

And on that topic, I CAN'T BELIEVE ATLUS HAD THE COLORS AND GLASSES IN P4A ON THE DISC!

I haven't tested it or anything, but I'm pretty sure you keep the hotfixes, even after turning off the consoles.

MK online had a lot of issues because people just couldn't be bothered to download the compatibility packs, either due to ignorance, or maybe because they wanted to troll people who had the new characters. NRS tried to convince people to download them by bundling them with free costumes, but people still weren't downloading them. I'm sure having to pay MS/Sony also had something to do with it.

Thank you so much enzo for putting ARK V in the OP :)
We're trying to do big things for the South. I hope players come in and show that the South deserves just as much respect as the coasts.

Ricky Ortiz recently tweeted this:

...and word on the street is... if Ricky is coming, a couple of other well known players are also confirmed.

Hey Max I'm glad that ARK has blown up as big as big as big as it has, its great for the scene here, kudos! I was able to come and play at that tournament in Little Rock in that hotel downtown a couple years ago. Between being a poor assed college student now, and only having ps3 sticks, I can't play with you guys now. Bums me out. :(

In theory its not hard to download a compatibility pack, however, some people are either REALLY stupid, or giant assholes, so it became a problem. Especially with freddy, as people refused to DL his pack, though on PS3 they made it mandatory with a patch.

The hotfixes are permanent, when it first came out, the xbox version fucked and it only worked online, but they hard patched it. MS and Sony seem to be cool with it, as MK wasn't even the first game to do it, EA sports games do it, and Monday Night Combat as well.

The hotfixes only actually happened a few times, I think 3 times over the course of the games life, and two of them were hours after major patches, so they don't even really count.

I am 99% positive that I either remember meeting you or you posted on SRK or something (sorry I have a terrible memory!). I swear I had your gamertag listed on the Arkansas "players list" on SRK lol.
Little Rock GameCon had a lot of problems, but it was great for the scene because it inspired us to actually form a gaming community and build. Unfortunately the guy who ran that convention is either on hiatus or retired from Conventions due to a lot of stuff that's happened to him, but the Arkansas gaming scene has flourished!

I will say a couple of things though-
First off, we try our hardest to remove ALL barriers of entry because we know how fragile a small scene is. Unfortunately we had to choose a console and most sticks aren't dual modded. However, I can guarantee you that people will let you use their 360 sticks at ARK V if you come. If (by some act of God) they don't, come to me and you can borrow my stick.
Second, while I encourage everyone to compete (for experience and just to have a great time), we know how bad the economy is. We have totally knocked out the spectator fee so if you just want to come, watch, and play casuals it's absolutely free. If you have time and you're in town, drop by and say hello :)

Kind of want to get a salty suite stream going at ARK. Hopefully the hotel internet we end up with is decent.

There was some complaining they did too much too soon(which was always exaggerated) but overall the patches were popular.

I'm competing at MLG this weekend in MK.

I'm absolutely dying making this video. You can all thank Sherry for beating Q's ass. And Marky for the bet.

So just to be clear, the Mad Catz Championships that was announced as part of the EVO tourney season and was suppose to take place in San Diego, CA will now be taking place in the UK? So no more MCC in San Diego, is that right?
