Maybe he's just jaded about giving interviews? I know if I worked at SQEX and busted my ass with FFXIII, the ridiculous reaction online would leave me a bit jaded. People rake them over the coals for 4 years, then act surprised that he's not cheerful.

Compare it to the way the Diablo devs acted when they get comparatively minuscule criticism, or Bioware. They flipped out, publicly.

This is true. Compare the reaction of Bioware to DA2 and Square to FFXIII. Bioware basically said 'fuck you guys, we're still gonna continue with this trend but we'll polish it a bit more next time. Square said 'okay, here's most of your complaints addressed but we couldn't get a better story together because our writers think that it was awesome'.

Maybe because it's the better game of the two.

FF XII was my the most disappointing FF experience. But I know you don't like FF X, so to each their own :)

My good man, I cannot accept this. We shall fight to the death in a gruelling...

...banjo duel! Have at you!

*plays a mean version of 'Raining Blood' on banjo*

Thats why I mention it, Kitase loves FFX & as Toriyama was mainly responsible is probably why he see in him in such high regard, & probably explains why we've had sequels to both X & XIII on top of the HD edition of X being made

Possibly. I guess Japan's love for FF X (fuck you, Japan) also plays a part in it all.

There was a sequel to XII too you know ;)

In all seriousness XII actually has a lot of games being released around that world and lore. And Toriyama isn't wholly responsible for X. For example, he didn't actually write it (Nojima did) so maybe that's why it was a good game.

Tory wrote the sequel to XII. Alongside another guy.

People fail to understand FFX was a joint project of 3.

X was such a huge project. It was like literally the whole of Square just got together and made that game and it shows. Isn't it like the second most highly regarded FF games in Japan?

Yeah I know. And it was surprisingly better than XII and XIII story-wise (I give XII a lot of shit because of the zero character development in the party, predictable plot arc for Vayne and bad execution of the only cool thing about the game's story-Occuria)

I see VII and X a lot.

I know FFV is loved in Japan. Dunno how much though.

No wait, what if, she isn't written by Toriyama at all, and they completely rework her backstory and personality to make it fit in with the world.

It would be great. She would just be Aya Brea with pink hair.

If Nojima wrote Lightning and Nomura directed her it could be pretty cool. Hell even Watanabe writing Lightning away from Toriyama could be cool. Think Aqua from KH.

VS would be a alternate dimension to XIII in which Lightning ends up in at the end of XIII-3 and she remembers nothing!
She becomes the main character too lol

I still fond it funny that Aqua was the sole voice of reason in that whole game.

Aqua is the sole voice of reason in the whole series, really. Though I did like all three protagonist. Terra is actually well-written despite the whole 'something something DARKNESS something something' being most of his dialogue. Ven is basically Sora and then gets to be a bit more like Roxas towards the end and that makes sense. Aqua is just refreshing because we saw what Terra was doing in Riku's arc and we had a similar here as Ven in Sora.

It's a matter of time before Lightning gets a KH version.

And becomes a recurring character in the dumbest way possible.

You know she'll probably work much better in KH than in FF XIII. I mean look at how Squall got a very nice upgrade in KH. Plust this would be Watanabe being able to write her in a way not restricted by Toriyama.

I really liked Ven's character development, towards the end he was quite the badass.

Yeah he was pretty awesome at the end. Pretty much all three of the main protags develop really well. While not strictly character development but that scene where
Terra's armor rises to fight Xehanort in Terra's body and traps him there
is like my one of my favourite scenes in KH ever.

Yeah now that I think about it, I like Leon way more than Squall, ha ha.

Maybe, I recall for Vagrant Story they went to France.

The art team visited Turkey, which influenced the game's Mediterranean-style setting.

Look up the Misir Bazaar in Istanbul. FF12's Lowtown in Rabanastre looks exactly like it. And right above Lowtown is the Muthru Bazaar, musuru in Japanese, which was surely named for it. (In katakana, these words are the same: the Japanese perceive the Turkish undotted i as a kind of u sound.)

Basically he gave a bunch of long winded non-answers to questions and it felt like he was more or less casually approving everything Toriyama did without genuinely caring about the consequences.

Back before FF13 came out, Kitase said in one of his interviews that their games were made for teenagers and people in their early 20s, and as someone who'd thought that to be true but then came away totally entranced by FF12, its English translation, and IZJS as a 30-year-old, I thought he was just being modest. I should have seen this as a huge red flag: it was preemptive damage control.

Contrast this with Ito in his post-IZJS interview where he specifically says that he wanted to get older fans who might have drifted away from SE games back into the fold. He succeeded, and games like his will be things that people will keep playing many years from now whereas FF13-like childish/teenage tripe will be discarded.

That was the lamest stuff ever. They just turn them into some lame fairies.

They should make Lightning like a Keyblade Master that Sora meets in KH3.

The KH series isn't going to do that and put a Keyblade in the hands of a non-KH-universe character. She might cameo, but not as a major part of the canon; just as part of the whole thing where FF (and now TWEWY) characters can cameo in KH-original worlds and in the Hercules world.

If anything, the cameos have been more and more deprecated as the original KH cast has gotten bigger and bigger. And that's a good thing, even if the weird FF7-character subplot is something that likely won't get dropped (and we'll likely end up fighting Sephiroth yet again in KH3).

So there's hope yet that Ito and his team are out there somewhere copying the some part of the real world for FF XV.

Given the name "Agni's Philosophy", perhaps he and his fellow miracle workers are in India. Svagatam, traveler!

I wouldn't mind that at all. Let's keep hoping!

Would be different to have a mage for MC.

Terra did it, so can Agni!!!!

The mage is usually the most important character in the party anyway (a summoner mage, to be precise)

Repeating the same shit to same questions, interview after interview must be tiring.

Constant mention of NEW DIRECTION just makes me think it has to be something more than 13-3?

Maybe more of an action game styled after the Dissidia set? I mean theyve got that engine, assets and all that, I'd assume they could build something interesting out of it just focussing on Lightning as a playable character?

Final Fantasy XIII Rising: Revengeance developed by Platinum Games.

I'd buy it.

If there's even a mention about any of XIII's clowns in Versus,i'm going to be very,VERY,VERY disappointed.

Noctis "When I was a kid I had a girlfriend called Lightning but then she had to go live in the sky, and now I can't move on because I can't stop thinking about her :(" *starts dreaming about lightning and the childhood love memories*

Game's happy Ending: He finally meets Lightning again = Sublimit's worst nightmare

*I'm obviously bored*
