Since when did Carmela Soprano have an affair?

She had a thing for Furio and neither he or she ever acted on it.

She had a thing with the teacher while Tony and her were separated.

She got hot flushes from the priest and nobody acted on that either.

But none of that has anything to do with why Carmela Soprano is not only a much better character than Skylar, but perhaps the best female character on television. YEAH I SAID IT.
not only that, she knew she was marrying a mobster, had kids with a mobster, and so on. Completely different situations. And I don't know anyone who'd disagree anyway. Carmella is easily the best female there was on TV.

You wouldn't when a small portion of your audience is a bunch of sociopaths? Gilligan all about the money, man, he ain't down to ride and die with these philosophies.
one of the people even working on the show said she still roots for walt, lol. That's just how it is. There are reasons why. Most important reason: it's fun

Skyler didn't have an affair either.

Yup, pretty much. Also, I remember there being plenty of Carmela hate when the show was still on the air.

Last one, I swear...

See, this is why we told that guy to stay the hell away from this thread until he catches up. The "FUCK YOU TODD, WHY?!" feeling after watching that was just great.

Lots of people hated Carmela, especially in the later seasons...

It goes back to the blatant sexism and double standards viewers have while watching antihero shows like Mad Men, Sopranos, and Breaking Bad. All three characters in question treat their wives like shit, but because viewers are more interested in rooting for their success they hate characters who are obstacles to that success (in this case, the wives).

Damn fucking straight she's hated by fans everywhere while Carmella is loved. But it has nothing to do with victimization, or empowerment or whatever loaded words the BenjaminBirdies of the world want to throw out there to try to make Skyler-haters feel guilty.

Fuck Skyler White

If you don't thinking killing Mike for ANY reason is totally irredeemable, then YOU'RE irredeemable.
It doesn't rank particularly high on the list of atrocities committed by Walt.
Exactly. If Mike had to die, he deserved a better way to go than a fucking manchild running up to his car and shooting him point blank in a fit of anger/jealousy.
It was fitting, given the kind of show Breaking Bad is. Mike almost killed Walt, saying he's "sorry" but it's necessary. Walt ended up shooting Mike and saying he's sorry because it was unnecessary.
TBH, Gilligan has probably thrown a lot of things out there that he thinks will make Walt irredeemable and people just will never be 100% converted.
Mike wasn't a good person either. People watch this show precisely because it is a moral train wreck (or at least I hope they realize this.)

Also, RE: Mike: Who here would have been pissed if Walt had managed to turn the tables and kill him when Mike was holding a gun to his head in the Season 3 finale? Fucking nobody.

BenjaminBirdie tapped out, but I see we have a new contender for "Most Likely to Hurl Ridiculous Insults at Fans of a Fictional TV Series" in the ring.

Let's get Devolution in here while we're at it. Her insights are sorely needed.

I agree with the bolded. But the idea that viewers root for the protagonist to achieve success and hate anyone who's an obstacle to that success suggests that they don't hate 'obstacle characters' because they're women, but just because they're obstacles. If there was a show with a female anti-hero who had a husband who was constantly trying to block her "progress", maybe everyone would hate the husband character too.

This is 100% accurate. If said husband character was also completely irrational and then went out and fucked the worst female character in the history of tv, people would probably hate him just as much as they hate Skyler. Fuck it, maybe more so.

No way in hell would it get the same level as hate as what a character like skylar gets

She went out and fucked someone who isn't walter white. She didn't have sex with the protagonist.

This is her hell and she is the devil.

ohhhh is this debate actually happening? Carmela shits on Skyler from great heights. On an acting AND character level.
