Fighting Games Weekly | September 10-16

If Champ stopped fucking around with tier lists and actually played the game once in a while he'd probably be a decent player.

Tekken is hard to follow because unlike SF/Marvel/2D games there are like 60-70+ "normal" moves to keep track of and be familiar with their properties, frame advantage/disadvantage as well as their general hit boxes (hitboxes not as important as 2D fighters I would say but frame advantage/disadvantage is probably more so). Granted at the highest level most of those moves aren't used because they are almost always superior options to use but there will always be scenarios where there are match ups when someone uses a move in a way not used before. And a huge portion of the moves are used for spacing, pokes, "footsies". Tekken also differentiates itself from other 3D fighters by having a rather difficult to grasp mobility. It's similar to Marvel where there is a lot of focus on dash cancelling and just general twitch based movements (it even has wave dashing). Most of the time you just see people moving back and forth, side stepping, throwing out the appropriate normal at the appropriate spacing, change a stance here and there. Then someone gets hit and either they go for a mid/low/throw mix up or the hit leads into a long combo... and the combo usually leads into a very bad oki situation where you have to know which wake up option to use and at what time.

TTT2 for someone just getting into Tekken is going to be difficult to grasp. Aside from the base Tekken mechanics they have to deal with a gargantuan character roster, I had trouble getting to grips with the Tekken 6 roster and that was also when I switched gears to 2D Capcom fighting games. Then you also have to deal with the various tag mechanics which also add another layer to the game.

Gootecks just confirmed there was going to be a "EG vs the World" event at the next Seasons Beatings.

EG: Jwong, Ortiz, not sure about the rest (Momochi and Rog?)

The World: Laugh, Infiltration, Valle, and one another person.

I like the team with Infiltration on it. Is anyone even close in touching him?

Ghaelon was saying they are bringing in a well known SF player to make his first appearance at Season Beatings.

Also looks like Cross Counter is going to have that exclusive content for Season Beatings again so no archives.

I think Ricky would have the best shot but Infiltration is on another level right now.

Good points. I must admit I fell into the hype of TTT2 and preordered. Last night I tried tekken 6 again after what must be a couple of years or something. Horrendous loading times aside, what really struck me is when I went into training mode with my old Julia (still customised and looking hot) her move list has like a billion different things on it.

Early this morning I woke up and cancelled my preorder.

I really like Tekken, and respect the people who play it and want it to do really well. But I have to be realistic and I will never, ever have the time to get into it properly, playing or watching.

The popular opinion would have to be Sako. Who else is a better combination of being considered one of the most famous SF players and having never been to a SB before? Both teams are very strong, but I'm liking the team with Infiltration to. Although Valle, Laugh, and possibly Sako are also really strong players as well. I'm glad SB was able put together a SF4 exhibition, I'll be looking forward to it.

LOl damn really? it's all simple command normals. I wouldn't cancel over that.

Anyone got a start time for Aftershock? Can't seem to find one anywhere.

Also a link to a good explanation of Waseda style would be nice, but I can't seem to find that either.

OP updated otherwise.

Indeed, honestly most characters you just need to find out which 10 moves are the most important and learn your footsies and you are set for the most part.

You can even start simple with 5 moves

Yes, I think you are both agreeing and disagreeing with me. It isn't rocket science, and I'm sure I could spend the time to find a character, go through all their moves, work out the best 5-10 and then start to learn spacing and match-ups.

But that would just be the beginning and getting to that point is still by no means trivial.

You have to start somewhere...or you can also not start.

No that's what online guides are for :P

I believe it works like this.

A vs A

B vs B

C vs C

D vs D

Then the winners of each play each other pokemon style.

more or less laid out how MLG was butthurt that all these no name scrubs were getting higher viewer numbers than their venues and the sponsors were starting to notice and started bitching @ capcom.

Sp00ky isn't some no name scrub. He's been going at it almost nonstop since the pre-launch of SSF4 he is pretty much THE NAME of fighting game streams now due to the effort he has put in to everything. You want an insane amount of viewers? convince spooky to stream your stuff. Will probably never happen though and I believe he said something about not wanting to, I could be wrong though.

And EVO sure as fuck is the farthest thing from no name there is for fighting games.

I don't think Capcom will still help them at all. Revelations had most of the top players but the stream didn't get big numbers. It seems if the community isn't down with it they won't tune in.

MLG streams are bad for fighters, they have too many breaks in between the matches for advertisement.

i was paraphrasing. i believe the words gootecks used was "grass roots"

Eh, I'm picking up TTT2 for the sole fact that I loved TTT1 as a kid. Shit was mad hype with the family and neighbors. Also, I'm okay with supporting a game that has more features than just offline versus and online ranked mode.

Doesn't hurt the fact that Colorado happens to be Tekken Town when it comes to the US. :lol

Capcom will help somewhat, MLG is guaranteed to get top Capcom players supporting them if they give the $$$$$$ and that'll guarantee some interest for their events. Revelations was killed by the blantant SRK and Eventhubs boycott, and they haven't been boycotting the MLG events. But yeah ATM most people do seem to consider MLG to be a joke, not just fighting game fans but the LoL guys too (just look at their reaction to that pot splitting nonsense) and they have a lot of work to do to fix their reputation. Doing stupid things like that joining the winners and losers bracket for top 4 is going to make them dig their graves faster.
