Fighting Games Weekly | September 10-16

I believe it works like this.

A vs A

B vs B

C vs C

D vs D

Then the winners of each play each other pokemon style.
Best I got so, this post will be linked in OP. Thanks!

Capcom will help somewhat, MLG is guaranteed to get top Capcom players supporting them if they give the $$$$$$ and that'll guarantee some interest for their events. Revelations was killed by the blantant SRK and Eventhubs boycott, and they haven't been boycotting the MLG events. But yeah ATM most people do seem to consider MLG to be a joke, not just fighting game fans but the LoL guys too (just look at their reaction to that pot splitting nonsense) and they have a lot of work to do to fix their reputation. Doing stupid things like that joining the winners and losers bracket for top 4 is going to make them dig their graves faster.
...or Capcom can go to IGN like the rumors say and everyone besides MLG is happy.

Anyone that wants to know about the mechanics of TTT2, from the OT:

Yeah the rumors are that DOA (sort of confirmed by Art in a stream) and UMvC3 might be exclusive for IGN.

But then why is Capcom happy to work with IPL but not MLG? If IPL does get UMvC3 it's evidence that Capcom isn't as anti-ESports as MLG claims, nor are their minds poisoned by the evil villians running EVO. MLG is just doing a terrible job selling themselves, to Capcom and to the FGC. If they wake up and do a better job selling themselves having Capcom games is still a possibilty.

IRRC After shock is 2/3 sets 2/3 matches so it should be

A vs A (2/3)
B vs B (2/3)

etc...

Until NorCal or SoCal wins. Then it's 1-0 for either SoCal or Norcal then we do the whole damn thing again. If team that is up 1-0 wins they win 2-0, if other team win then it's 1-1 and we do the whole damn thing again.

MLG claiming Capcom is anti-eSports is baseless slander. They have bad blood. Negotiations never worked out and instead of rebuilding, they decide to keep burning bridges with Capcom. Why should Capcom go with MLG instead of IPL if they continue down this road? Why, when they can put their own money up, get the communities help, and make their own tournament series for the 25th anniversary and do a better job than MLG ever could, especially considering how bad they've handled their fighting game events thus far?

At this point I don't understand why MLG has to be part of the equation when they have alternative choices that they can start fresh with who don't continually sour their own reputation and present themselves as they do.

EDIT: WesternHeretic I'll add your post to OP too. Thanks a ton!

Was it MLG that called fighting game players a bunch of button mashers?

That was Dreamhack.

Honestly there is nothing stopping MLG from running Capcom games but MLG wants Capcom to give them a license (like Blizzard does) to run the game. I believe MLG will also require Capcom to give money to run the event (for the pot)

Dreamhack just runs the game and put up their own money up.

MLG really is fucking up the fighting games part hard. SC2 is losing popularity and viewers even with the expansion coming out, and they're gonna have to ride LoL and pickup DOTA2 (unless Blizzard and Riot put pressure on them not to) in order to keep their business at the level its at now. They could've turned the fighting game competition into a big part of their tournies but thats never going to happen at this rate.

What really gets me about MLG is the downtime between matches. I can't handle waiting that long staring at nothing, so I turn the stream off eventually.

I think fighting games work well at MLG; I think MLG is completely incompatible with the FGC, though.

I'll be posting up Aftershock details today on IPW.

This will most likely be my last broadcast on IPW for quite sometime -- maybe forever -- so hope you enjoy it. I'll be passing the torch to Harrison who handles the Starbase Streams and the past few Southtown streams.

MLG has canceled the FG Arena for MK and SC5. Very disappointing news and a bad omen for competitive MK. I feel ripped off, I earned that trip to NY.

Supposedly they only had something like under 30 entrants for SC5.
TYM folks seem to be in a "saddened but not necessarily surprised" state.

Eh, I'm picking up TTT2 for the sole fact that I loved TTT1 as a kid. Shit was mad hype with the family and neighbors. Also, I'm okay with supporting a game that has more features than just offline versus and online ranked mode.

Doesn't hurt the fact that Colorado happens to be Tekken Town when it comes to the US. :lol

Oh really? Is Colorado THE state for Tekken? My friend was saying it's like all anyone plays in Alaska as far as fighters.

I wish I wasn't such a busy fuck so I could come out to more gatherings, but full time gig and full time student + juggling a girlfriend = no time for games. :(

I'm massively out of the loop on any FGC related shit.(Didn't find out Gootecks was back until like a month/two after he came back to it)

I'm not sure how IPW works, but aren't you the one who started it up? Is the TeamSpooky collaboration still going to remain in effect?

WHERE ARE YOU GOING?! ARE YOU MOVING TO MEXICO TO GO FULL TIME KOF LORD ON US?! ; ;
