My thing is that there's a lot of people who don't want to try and be open to things no matter where they come from in this community. Drowning more people out who understand things in the bigger scheme and attempt to reason them out with folks but don't have the best track record in the interim isn't helping to break that stereotype.

Ugh, I'm not as eloquent as I'd like to be explaining this, but I'd hope one can understand.

Probably gonna be hard unless you plan on going out to Japan since it uses Nesica. I'm praying for a port. I really liked French Bread's stuff since Ragnarok Battle Offline, which led me to Melty Blood which led me to my TYPE-MOON love. People wanted to see French Bread do something not tied to them or Melty and this game looks great.

To be fair, I would rather lend an ear to the person with multiple wins under their belt than the person who just found out that ______ can do X amount of damage with ______ during half of a blue moon while water is boiling and Markman is getting it in.

Yep. Game came out today too. Waiting for early gameplay footage but I expect Yuzuriha to be running shit
 
I live by FFA...sorta. Its in Granada Hills, and I'm in the Porter Ranch area. I never knew of FFA while I was in HS or else I would of been there everyday.

Nobody can replace Seth. He's a unique individual. Next person will have to bring their own flavor to the position.

Being knowledgeable and actually applying that knowledge are definitely separate skills. There are a lot of trusted knowledgeable people in the FGC who don't exactly clean house in tournaments.

So I agree that just because you're not winning tournaments, it doesn't mean that you don't know what you're talking about, but there's a pretty good reason why "Do you win shit?" is the general litmus test for these kinds of things unless you've proven yourself through other avenues. "Vile" is kind of an extreme word to use when describing skepticism towards someone who hasn't proven themselves, is all.

Sure it seems like a dream job from the surface, but I only hope the person who eventually gets this position is ready for working with a Japanese games company.

I can second that. Your position changes over time and often on different titles. Also don't expect to work on titles you love to play either. I work on the art side of things but you end up doing so so much more than art but than again thats part of the fun in development.
 
Do community managers really do much beyond the actual managing of the community - Meaning provide a trusted buffer/go-between with which to make communications between the audience and the producers a little smoother?

It's essentially a more narrowly-focused PR position, isn't it? The community wants to talk to someone they know is "one of them," the company wants someone the community trusts as their face out there so things run as smoothly as possible.

I'm trying to think of a sports analog: Is this less "We've hired former point guard Nate McMillan to coach the team" and more "We've hired former shooting guard Clyde Drexler to do color commentary."

I almost used Bill Walton as an example but fuck Walton.
 
My Local Scene here all hates Seth Killian and think he was a huge leech & cheered him leaving Capcom.

I felt like I was in Bizzaro World. When I tried to explain all the good things he had done they would say otherwise without pointing to actual facts. (I linked to articles and that to prove he had done a lot at Capcom)

Most of their hatred goes back to him misinforming people about games in development.

Community Manager is almost exclusively PR. You manage the relationship between the company and and public. You become a public figure for the titles you represent, on or off duty. If some main FGC guy got the job, and was later quoted in a conversation talking bad about anything company related...it would lead to a hasty pink slip.

You also become the focus of anything negative happening with the company. Robert Bowling was a good example of this with the Modern Warfare series. As much as the guy tried to make a difference, he couldn't and eventually left.

Okay, that's what it seemed like the job was about. Seth Killian knows the game, but based on that explanation, I'm guessing Seth Killian's ability to speak intelligently and be self-effacing and charming when needed was more important than whether he'd won any tournaments or was a champion theory-fighter. That he could go around to the gaming journalists with the copy of the game, sit down with the reviewers and explain why they should be enjoying the game was way more important/beneficial to the company than his ability to actually play the games.

So yeah, by that standard: Haunts is a solid pick. So are you, Max. You were one of the only personalities involved with that Cross Assault shitshow that managed not to get any fecal matter stuck to your hands.

But that's what makes it all the more frustrating. He helped us win the one. Then he broke his foot. Then he broke out to the Clippers (THE CLIPPERS!). Then he went and won another championship with the Celtics (THE CELTICS UGH). Then he got an announcers job and proved to be a giant douche.

So yeah, the only time Portland won a championship, it's star player was a shaved ginger bigfoot. That sucks.

I think Mike would honestly hate that job. He already really doesn't care for what the stream monsters, and certain people say about him. (Ex. "calling him a fraud, etc.") Why would he want to put up with stream monsters AND a bunch of whiny, aggressive fanboys.

PR's have to put up with ALOT of shit. Just look at the ones for Call of Duty...
