The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Firepro Wrestling... man that looks rough. I can't imagine having played that as long as Alex did.

HELL YEAH looked freaking rad, though. Loved that music as well. Just a fun looking game overall.

The Penny Arcade strip about the audacity of Baller Beats' accomplishments in the realms of actual fun-ness was posted already, but Jerry's accompanying text for that day is also worth a read. I think it does a fair job of reasoning out why the game harbours an engaging side just around the corner from its shovelware boxart face.

[...] The last track in particular, there - Amazing - communicates a lot about what makes this mode of gameplay interesting. If you are familiar with Basketballs already, forgive me: but hitting the beat with a basketball is not something that happens on accident. It doesn’t happen the moment you push it toward the floor, there’s a delay. And Amazing is a fairly slow song, so in order to “play” it correctly I had to use really high bounces and still calibrate for these delays. It changed my posture, which changed how I felt the song. The rhythm of the hits was hypnotic, especially at that cadence. I was changing hands and looking ahead and actually playing despite myself. I had forgotten to be a jerk.

Oh, don’t worry. I’m angry at me, too.

What the what, Interpol in a Kinect game?! (15:18)

The quality of the games and the quality of the Quick Looks for the games are almost entirely independent.

There seemed to be some confusion over whether the characters on Sesame Street are Muppets. Other than the humans, who are just humans, they are Muppets. Remember, Muppet is a race, not an occupation.

I think it's because Muppets are a brand. Like, not all bandages are "Band-aids" or whatever.

Although I guess the Henson company still does all the Sesame Street... creatures, yeah?

The chance that a QL is interesting to watch is much higher with a good game than with a bad game. Well, for me at least. A good game is almost always interesting, even if the commentary is bad. A bad game needs to be propped up by the commentary because it's not interesting by itself.

It probably depends on what you watch QLs for as well.

Kermit was a regular on Sesame Street when I watched it and no one would argue that Kermit the Frog is not a Muppet. He's the damn host of the Muppet Show!

I always thought they were all part of the same big company lineup. I thought of them as the comedy (Muppets) and the educational (Sesame Street) divisions. :p

There are muppets and monsters and they are different!

General rule: Muppet show = muppets
Sesame street = monsters

They are not one and the same even though it's all Jim Henson.

Henson disagreed! Muppets were a troupe, Sesame Street animals were not a part of that troupe, they were just dudes who lived on a street.

Kermit was the only crossover.

The Muppets are the characters in the TV show/films called The Muppets

SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND, OH MY DEAR NOGGIN IT BURNS FROM THE PAIN OF THOUGHT

So labeling them all under the umbrella term "Muppet" is ignorant, misguided, and perhaps even a bit old fashioned. In order to promote both accuracy and brevity, I submit that we call them "Henson-Americans."
