Resident Evil 6 - Review Thread | Activist Reviews and the Hate Patrol Destroy Truth™

The only positive review was from Gametrailers, but in the Invisible Walls the guy said he been playing while in jetlag from the TGS. He probably give a more high score because was afraid the o game seems bad only for him.

I love this series, because traditionally, the games in it are good. A 'bad' RE was previously something really very good like RE5. And yet, the demos... man... I can't tell you how much they hurt. I tried pretty hard to like them, to remain optimistic after them, but I couldn't. I'm not going to DX: invisible war myself again and trick myself into thinking a shit demo was anything but, and end up buying a shit game I still regret buying more than any other game.

You know I love this series. You know I truly love this series. I'm replaying zero on and off with a friend of mine at the moment and we're going to move right on to REmake and 2 and 3 and you get the idea. This mess of a game... it's not worthy of the name. There's probably $60 worth of good content amongst the huge heap of content... but... it doesn't live up to the name.

Call this game something else. Say its from a western developer, and it doesn't magically start getting better reviews than it's getting now. It just doesn't.

When I eventually pick it up (because I will) I really hope I love it, but the issues are there whether they bother you or not. Is it that hard to understand that for some the issues get in the way of their enjoyment of the good stuff so much so that they can't enjoy the good stuff at all?

Huh. I was just saying that this place is mostly hypocritical when it comes to talking about reviews. A bunch of people believing that another group of people are lying/biased/ etc cause of whatever their preconceived opinion of the game is. There is no conspiracy, that is the point.

I haven't said anything about anyone's personal thoughts or experiences. They are your own and you have every right to them.

Playing through Chris' campaign now. Memo to Capcom: If you're trying to make a bro shooter, the old scarce ammo trick doesn't really work.

Is the most uninformative review I read on a while..."So many QTE!! why so many button promps!!" "The game is taking away the control of my character!! oh my god!!" for 1 page and the other page basically says nothing about the game is just..."Hey there some..um....enemies that suffers mutations and....well...you can kick them and...oh...well....shoot them duh!"

And that's when I remembered why I barely read reviews these days and just go with GAF impressions....

Ehhhh, I'm not sure what "anti-Japanese" is exactly... but reviewers often have odd priorities that put many great Japanese games at a disadvantage. Too often there is a caveat when they talk about liking a game, with the tone being surprise. Wow, I like Dark Souls for some reason!

Again, I've played it too. Extensively. I just disagree with him on that point. Of all the failings in the game, the controls aren't a glaring one.

The game still isn't good, regardless. We're really just arguing semantics at this point.
 
This needed to happen. Sorry guys, it pains me to say it, but this needed to happen.

Cacpcom deserves every bit of ass spanking it's getting for shamelessly milking/screwing up one of the most cherished franchises in the industry. Mikami is laughing his butt off right now for bailing. I sincerely hope this is a wake up call for Cap, and they either reinvent the wheel, or never make RE 7.

Like what happened with Operation Raccoon City and Revelations? I don't think that will tell Capcom anything constructive - and that's assuming that they're even interested in gauging critical interest or sales. I don't like this idea of letting 'the markets' decide anything, to be honest. Isn't that how this gen turned into such a mess in the first place?

I don't think Capcom's capable of making a rehash of 4, because if they were, they'd have done it already; and it's not like there's a legion of fans biding their time, waiting until the right game comes along so they can buy it and show "the more viable and worthy game". People buy what they're interested in, and I doubt that people would be interested in another pair of test games. What good would splitting the series up do, outside of making two convenient camps for fans to plant their flags in before tearing each other apart again?

They do that a lot. They rip a game a new asshole and then give it a 8+ or talk it up and then give a 7-.
They used to be very good for reviews as well, except for their constant spoilers :/
 
I knew this game was a turd when I saw it, 69% Metacritic for a main RE game is terrible, still that score should go up some.

Inventory system is fine; up/down for items, left/right for weapons.

It's sloppy because this information is never relayed to the person playing it at all, you have to figure it out for yourself and, as you cannot pause the game, this can lead to some annoying scenarios early in the game until you're used to it.

With all the negativity in this thread (and beyond) I feel a little weird for liking the game. It's not usually my cup of tea, but it's different and engaging.

I am really curious how RE6 is going to sell. On the heels of Operation I wonder how many people coming off of that and seeing the overall reviews will just take a pass. I am sure it won't bomb but I wouldn't be surprised if it sold significantly less than 5.

So sorry to miss out on this but I missed RE3 and survived. After 5, I lost a lot of interest. I guess this is how some feel about Zelda. I just can deal with the bad as much as Zelda.

Resident Evil 5 was a long burner. Unless they pull off some magic with a next-gen port, I don't see this selling the same life-time sales.

The conspiracy bullshit is bullshit is bullshit. I've also got a track record of calling people out for second guessing other peoples opinions, be it positive or negative. I get what you're saying about how 'and other people would be saying the positive reviews were a conspiracy bleep de bloop' but i find it very hard not side against the group accusing reviewers of lying about a game because they are all apparently racist.

i don't see how anyone reads that and goes 'yeah but other people would be being dumb if things were the other way around'. the expected reaction is 'what the fuck is wrong with you?'

to see other people that don't like it accused of only not liking it for being racist... as someone who it pains to be siding with the people seriously disappointed... that shit is just undefendable and the outcry towards it is not something i see any sense at all in second guessing or minimising or rationalising away, or anything.

do you understand what i mean? i've loved a lot of games that generally got bad reviews before and if i end up loving RE6 someday, the one thing i'm not going to do is think everyone who didn't love it just had an agenda.

even the positive reviews are listing numerous faults, just saying that 'ultimately they don't hurt the experience' and for *those* reviewers, that's true. but clearly if a game has numerous flaws, for other reviewers it's going to absolutely hurt the experience and we shouldn't be coming out with racist conspiracy bullshit in reaction to it.

I shut this game off after playing the demo for 10/15 minutes. RE5 was better than this. And i thought that game was average (well, any RE post the survival horror theme games).

Invisible Walls/Gametrailers should be fun this week. Last week, they attacked many other sites and called them out for giving out scores for the sake of hits or shock and not falling in line with all other reviews. Will they do the same this week? Will Satterfield and Marcus Beer STFU? Probably not. lol
 
I was expecting it to be an abhorrent piece of shit. I do plan on playing through it still because I've been a REvil fan for so many years, but this shit is being Red Box'd. Crapcom indeed.

And Game Informer game Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door a 6.75, IGN gave God Hand a 3.

Basically all 3 stand to show that in the end reviews are just a person's opinion, nothing more and nothing less. Everyone just needs to play the game to form their own opinion. If I took reviews at face value without looking into games myself, i'd own Modern Warfare 3, wouldnt have played the awesome Romancing SaGa PS2, or God Hand.

EDIT:I'm still surprised Final Fantasy XIII got so many good ratings as straight forward...and well...boring as it was so early on.

No! Not even to change the settings. There are moments at checkpoints where you can generally let it idle if you really need to do something but pausing is out.

And they say ZombiU is Dark Souls with zombies :P

I can certainly vouch for you love of the series man. I remember several lengthy discussions we had over our difference of opinion regarding RE5.

Are you playing co-op? You can definitely pause playing solo. Or maybe it's because I've been offline.
 
Wow, Resi may have had identity issues with RE5 and Revelations, but they were still both great games. This game seems to have had a much harsher reaction D:

You have to look at the person writing the review. That doesn't exactly save any reviewer's image (maybe aside from Tom Chick, in some areas) for me in particular, but that is how it has to work (and why Edge magazine doesn't work).

That said, GAF is funny when they pull out the score comparisons. This thread will be over 20 pages, 2,000 replies, but tomorrow we'll talk about how review scores are useless.
 
Capcpom missed the mash $ key to dodge bad reviews. Unfortunately they can't reload to the last checkpoint here. They will get to experience first hand cutscenes after cutscenes where the game gets stabbed repeatly, gets blown to bit, gets shredded to pieces or gets hit by car while the sweet melody and the intense dynamics of AAA grade explosions can be heard in the background.

They better learn to pass this QTE as Lost Planet 3 and DMC are coming next.
 
Kinda surprised the game is getting shit on this hard. I know it has a ton to live up to but I'd say it's worthy of the C+/B- range(with some A level stuff once in a while). Def not some D level turd like Raccoon City or anything.
