Resident Evil 6 - Review Thread | Activist Reviews and the Hate Patrol Destroy Truth™

I had 20 dollars off on any game purchase in September here in Canada at Future shop. I was debating weather I should get Borderlands or RE6, knowing that i would not get 20 off RE6/

I am happy that I got Borderlands 2 for 39.99 with Steele book.

"Normal mode", "story", "guns are unsatisfying" - lol

Binary Domain doesn't have a curve so much as a flat line. The game is not very difficult even on the highest difficulty (which is the games main problem by far). Also you make it sound like Vanquish is hard on normal mode - you have to be joking right?

Gears of War has campaigns that range from middling/mediocre. The level design in those games is kinda bad with wall to wall uninteresting setups. It also has super lazy difficulty options (being able to have two players set different difficulties should be a tip off instantly that something is very, very wrong). The player versus player was pretty good though from what I played of it.

I don't think Vanquish was very hard on normal but I would say it was much harder than say gears/uncharted/resident evil 5/binary domain were on normal.

I probably died more on normal in Vanquish than all of those games combined on normal probably less than 3 each.

I liked the part where he got a main characters name wrong.

Terrible review, not sure if he was trying to be funny or just obnoxious.
The review is a state of the critic's mental well being after playing the game: it's so bad it actively induced a breakdown.
Lol I am laughing at the Famitsu review. 39/40 hahahhahaaaaaaaaa
I remembered how credible they seemed in the 90s! Though given how rarely games got that high I would say it's completely crumbled rather than just being the delusions of less informed foreign gamers.

Killscreen could love a game and sound utterly deranged. That's the style they are going for. They are one of the worst.

I'm still unsure of whether to get it tomorrow or not. I just want a fun game. I don't want to have to struggle against crap controls or anything like that. Also want a decent story.

This is exactly how I feel. I mean I love RE (all the nonsense, some of the tank controls, the atmosphere- hell, even loved RE5). After playing both demos, I was little hesitant but still cautiously optimistic. I preordered it, but now I'm wondering if it'll be better just to wait for a price drop...

RE4, aside from the Leon and Ada string, had basically nothing to do with the series. And I say that as someone who thinks it's one of the best games to ever release.

What is resident evil now? That's hard to even describe lately, the franchise itself just changes too much. From OT impressions the entire game of 6 actually has slower and more atmospheric moments and has a massive variety of enemies that are pretty damn horrific and well designed.

no

the last parts of re4 was like a resident evil 1-2-3
and the game tried to be scary.

this is reverse-kicking punching street-fighting zombies with mediocre shooting thrown in.

RE6 has moments like the end game of RE4 too sprinkled throughout the chapters, there is a lot of great atmosphere throughout. Prerelease media is mostly showing explosions and stuff, but it's always trying to appeal to the mass market. RE4 also was not scary at all, though I never thought the series in general was.

And the pure combat of RE6 is a lot of fun. Mercenaries lives and dies on that sole factor, and 6 gives you much more to work with than ever before.

You know what's funny, all these extremely critical reviews only increase my interest in playing the game. I was going to buy it day one anyway, but now I just need to know what exactly about this game was so offensive to incite this critical backlash.

Re4 doesn't have bad controls,i quite liked the game.

Oh, I'm not saying that at all. My apologies. You asked why someone had said that RE6 was more like the older RE's and not like RE4. I listed my reasons.

Side note, it will be a great week for podcasts. RE6 review bomba and XCOM/Dishonored in their hands.

the continuous push by the industry to shove cinematic events down gamer's throats at the expense of actual gameplay has come first circle.

Games should be a game, devs should stop trying to turn them into movies.

i assure you that in 5-10 years you will be labeled crazy if you make this statement.

I don't know how Capcom managed to fuck this up. Talk about a lack of focus. 4 different campaigns, 7 main characters, poor camera, lack of feedback, imprecise controls. One part is sad to see another once great franchise fail but at the same time I hope it'll wake up the industry. A 600 person team is just crazy and counter-productive. It just confirms that the main ingredient to a good game, is a clear vision from a director with no influence from any producers. And people saying this game will still sell millions, maybe, but Capcom will not meet their expected sales target. Word of mouth is very important.

Sad to see this thread get turned into a reviews clusterfuck. I hate reviews. Famitsu and the western media are all full of shit. The amount of credible and honest games journalists/critics out there can be counted on two hands. Everyone else is just looking for an opportunity to stir up some controversy and get more clicks.

I'm not saying RE6 is good or bad--personally I'm waiting for the PC version, but I was hoping for player impressions from fellow NeoGAF members. I guess those will start coming in tomorrow or so.

I just hope they don't get drowned out by more reviewer he said she said bullshit.

I don't understand what you are saying. You were kicking, punching, and suplexing enemies back in RE4. That was actually the best way to deal with enemies.

Australians have been commenting on the game in OT for awhile. Its been mostly positive, though everyone has problems with the game. If you don't want to trust Australians, I could understand that.

Agreed, but COD and other games will never receive such criticism.

I wonder why a lot of reviewers chosed RE6 to start to go against that trend.... (and no, I'm not suporting conspiracy teories...I just wondering why.)

The only RE games i liked were 4 and 5 though 4 was far superior to 5,i'm still gonna give this a try based on the OT impressions let's see how well it fares.

Honestly thats what I do now. I'll look at reviews from time to time just to get a general opinion, but ever since becoming a member of GAF, i'll look to other members for detailed impressions, and go from there.

Would have passed up on Deadly Premonition or got into Demon's Souls late. So i'd recommend anyone even remotely interested in the game to at least check the OT and gather some impressions.

It also becomes much easier once you have identified a handful of posters with similar interests to your own, the sum of their impressions is an excellent barometer for your own potential reception to the game

Sigh. I remember being excited for Capcom games back in the SNES and PS1 days. Now, I just want them to fall flat on their face after what they did to MM: Legends and universe.

My review, guys: http://ps3.ongames.com/analisis_resident-evil-6 (in spanish)

I'm confused, really. I loved RE6, the 4 campaings. I'm a fan of the franchise, except RE5 (it was RE4 in HD), Op Raccoon City and Mercenaries. I don't understand the low scores, specially the GameSpot review. A 4.5? Really? It's a fun game, very varied, amusing and with a lot of hard battles.

I hope i'm not losing perspective as a reviewer...

Oh ok,i misunderstood.

That's vaguely disappointing, I was hoping the game actually broke him rather than it just being the way they've always been.

I'm like you, a big RE fan. I had it preordered but after watching a bit of a playthrough I cancelled it and these reviews just reaffirmed what I felt while watching the playthrough.

depends on the balance between actual continuous gameplay uninterrupted by scripted events or bogged down by longer cut-scenes than gameplay time clocked

I'm really sorry to tell you Pixador that you might in fact be losing perspective as a reviewer.
:(

Which difficulty did you clear it on?

YOU and people like you are the problem with reviews today.

If everything except for literal dog shit in a box gets a good score just go buy every game and don't read reviews and write TEN with a sharpie on every box.

Yeah, they're the problem. I say round 'em up on a garbage barge and have them box bare-knuckle for the right to swim back to land. Removing those dirty, cretinous apologists from civilization will stop shitty game recommendations and bloated or misleading reviews from being written in one fell swoop! Somehow.

What will get higher reviews:

MGR:R or DmC? Now THAT will be a fun thread.

Well the reviewers will never play above normal mode so chances are no more than 25% of MG:R will be experienced. Can MG:R win with that handicap?

I had a palpitation reading these posts. If the chains aren't as simple in MG:R as they are in Bayonetta, that's a losing battle for Rising, haha.
