Resident Evil 6 - Review Thread | Activist Reviews and the Hate Patrol Destroy Truth™

People also need to stop comparing similar in-game situations to reviews that praised for the very same situation that were in the past. Games have changed. How critics review games and its intricate designs have changed. What was good in the past isn't going to be benchmark for years on end.

How people look at game design and such isn't a perpetual, stagnant thing. just like how game design and philosophies change, so must critics in how they analyze and critique reviews.

Yeah, that's how it started. The rest of the game didn't exactly consist of the same formula. Sure, cutscenes got more frequent towards the end, but for the most part, you have long stretches of gameplay, then maybe a few skippable cutscenes, then back to gameplay. Not like this POS. Also, calling MGS4 cheesy, but not RE6? LOL.

Both are cheesy. Resident Evil has always been cheesy... I didn't even think there was a doubt on this. It's just that the first time of playing MGS4 (probably hyped) I thought everything was fantastic. And then (2nd run) the cutscenes were like badly animated by live action actors. A very bad display of emotions. Loved the act 3 one in the river... and also the interactive microwave QTE

PS: also, my point is that Van Ord last statment can be applied to MGS4 perfectly... just to put things into perspective.

Reading the reviews it actually sounds like I would enjoy this game. I don't mind a series of incoherent mediocre gameplay scenarios gobbled together by a blockbuster plot. At least it doesn't sound boring and monochrome - like some of the critically praised games like Bulletstorm , such a boring mindnumbing grind. Different tastes.

After watching video's and playing the demo these kinds of review scores are what I expected. Good job Capcom driving one of my favorite franchises straight into the ground.

I found Bulletstorm pretty grating due to it's really condescending attempts at humor and the heavy auto-target mechanics (those cacti must have blackholes around them), but calling it "monochrome" is just objectively false. It's one of the most colorful third persons shooters in years.

Oh wow, mega bomba. Thank the lords that Gamespot fellow leaked that 4.5 so i could cancel the preorder in time. Will wait for sale prices now. I think people owe him an apology. He did those on the fence a big favor letting them know of this clusterfuck.

Thanks Capcpom for killing a once great series. I even really liked RE 5. Any quality this series had died with that game. First RE game i wont be getting at launch. Terrible.

600 people.

What am I reading?

Yeah but it's a Rockstar game.

Everybody knows you add 2 to 3 points to any Rockstar game when reviewing it. It's a known rule. Kind of like the Even/odds Star Trek movie rule. The PlayerOne Podcast guys joke about the Rockstar Review rule all the time (and they are right).

The only exception to this rule is Red Dead Redemption and that is just because that game actually deserved the 9s and reviewers couldn't give a game a 12/10.

Well said even though I did like GTA4 but Read Dead was a way better game.

That is one QTE. You stated it had constant QTE intrusion. Where did MGS4 have constant QTE thrown into the game?

No I stated that it was an awful QTE like the ones you find in RE6, not that the game is infested with them. Instead there's a lot of interruptions from long cutscenes and codec dialogues (I don't mind them, personally).

I though Bulletstorm was just a fun FPS in general. I am hoping they make a sequel.

I knew it. I fucking knew it. Looked bad at first. Then the demo left me with one terrible taste in my mouth. Then most reviews seem to confirm what I thought.

RE4 remains the best game made since its release. I expect that it will retain that title at least until it's 10th anniversary.

Capcom, bring back Mikami.

I liked GTA IV too (but not as much as Liberty City Stories). In fact, I liked it enough to see it through to the end, which I imagine 90% of players did not do.

But I think it is pretty clear to basically anybody who plays that game that it has some serious problems. Extremely long "fetch quest" missions, bad checkpointing, poorly paced narrative, etc.

But I honestly think reviewers wouldnt'/couldn't call it out for whatever reason. That is the one reason why it kind of glad to see these RE6 scores. Not because I want RE6 to be bad, but because it is far more often the case that huge blockbusters get handled with kid gloves.

When you get older, you have less tolerance for shitty video game cutscenes. Tastes can change.
What I think might be ignored here is that MGS4 was the grand finale and for some people (especially when we're younger) the story for the series was seriously enjoyable enough to make it worth playing the games for alone. Resident Evil though, the story's mainly just an excuse to propel things along, you played either for the action or for the thrill of a good scare and exploring/puzzles, so actively being drowned in that is like... I dunno, having someone around who's REALLY proud of this amateur story they wrote and wants to keep shoving it in your face, even though it's either very dull or outright terrible.

Seriously, I actually am amazed at how much they keep building this damn continuity, I think Mikami realized how ridiculous it was with RE4 pretty much completely disregarding everything that came before, and with him gone RE5 and RE6 wholly embracing it along with these CGI films being made. Hell, for how much MGS4 disappointed me and got crapped on I'd still rather rewatch that story versus any RE game's. That's wiki fodder for when I'm morbidly curious.

This. Let's not forget the disaster that was Operation Raccoon City going on to sell 2 million units, with 582k the first month.

I Think a lot of RE fans got burned on that game though, hopefully those people will be more discriminating and actually check to see if this one is any good before they dive in.

Meh, I heard all the impressions from gaffers that played the retail. They all said it was as fun as RE5 or close enough. Warrants my purchase for 25 bucks w/ tax (split between my broughter and I). Thank god newegg for $45 preorders. Why wait for a sale when day 1 purchases are already good deals.

I'm not saying he's right or wrong in his assertion at all. I played the demo with a friend and while I thought there were some annoying nitpicks with Leon's chapter, I was somewhat enjoying the attempt at a tense and moody atmosphere. I felt the Chris segment was too all over the place and frantic for me to enjoy it. In my relation to Shoemaker's experience in that video, if Chris' episode fares better than Leon's, then from my experience that sure says a lot about Leon's campaign.

Whatever part Brad was playing in the video certainly looked more approachable than what I had experienced.

From what I've seen so far, Leon's campaign is easily the worst in the game, which makes it all the more shameful they encourage you to play it first.

Seems like the RE defense force has arrived

Uh... I don't know about you but I haven't seen anyone who was hardcore bashing anyone saying bad about the game from the Demo and RE6 OT in here.... so I have to disagree.

It's the sort of game you buy dirt cheap in a year or two and marvel at some of the insane/horrible decisions and laugh at the inexplicably bad QTE segments. There's something endearing about watching such a giant production -- backed by people who should have known better -- completely derail. I can't find Polygon's rating guide, but I'd imagine four out out of ten roughly refers to something like this.

You aren't making it easier for me to hold out until the $20 mark!
I enjoyed Leon demo a bit but the other two were terrible. Drawing back the FOV would help a lot for me, especially since neither were survival horror focused.
