Resident Evil 6 - Review Thread | Activist Reviews and the Hate Patrol Destroy Truth™

I'm surprised anyone thinks Famitsu has any credibility anymore. They give the big-name franchises from big-name publishers the big-time scores.

Man this is depressing. I feel like this game summarizes the decline and fall of gaming. It makes me feel old. It's like watching civilization crumble.

You aren't making it easier for me to hold out until the $20 mark!
I enjoyed Leon demo a bit but the other two were terrible. Drawing back the FOV would help a lot for me, especially since neither were survival horror focused.

PC mods.

When the game comes out on PC and is cheap, I'll probably pick it up for that reason. It can probably fix some of the broken stuff or at least make it more tolerable.

This is getting childish. Read your posts to yourself aloud before you post them.

Are Resi fans that bitter they have to drag quality games like MGS4 into this? It's no wonder Capcom is a shadow of their former self, it's the damn fanbase to blame. They wont let them grow! RE6 is a terrible RE game, deal with it, let Capcom hear it so we can go back to survival horror and I can become a fan again like I was 6-7 years ago.

No, it was about the double standards of one reviewer, no one said nothing about MGS4 quality.

But we all know, it wasn't very good...ops.

Capcom will hear it and they will not go back to horror. Deal with it.

How bout all the one's gleefully bashing anything Capcom in pretty much every thread? They are just as bad as anyone defending.

I don't know how the game will turn out to me but I am still looking forward to playing it.

She sells sea shells she sells she shells she fuuuuuuck

It's worth repeating: X-com and Dishonored come out next week. This game will be long forgotten.

Hopefully those games along with AC3 bury this turd sales wise. That is the only way Capcom will wake up and go back to the basics. No 600 people bullshit. Just a medium sized team concentrating on one campaign focused on actual horror.

If you think XCom and Dishonored will make a dent in RE 6's sales this October, you're dreaming.

It's like...Finally people realize these games suck....

Justice.

The day got a little bit brighter today.

All Videogames, Japanese videogames, Capcom games, Resident Evil games...not sure what "these" refers too.

Maybe you'll be doing that, but I'll be over here convincing myself that I'm having fun with a game instead of hating on it, like haters do. Why do "The Haters" dislike things I do? Hmm, I guess they're inherently irrational complainers who enjoy "hating" on things for no reason.

(Someone should shop something like "Hey Chris, look at all these bad scores!"

Welp, guess I'll play another round of Revelations I guess.

No way in hell this happens. Personally I have no idea what Xcom even is so I don't know what its sales potential is like, but Dishonored won't come close to RE6. AC3 could easily beat it, but that game comes out almost a month later, so it shouldn't affect RE6 very much, if at all.

after this what Capcom can do anyway? it is not all about the money?

If they make a large profit, they might take a similar approach or keep the game largely the same. If they're smart, they'll take the critics' words to heart. I doubt it though.

I'm not really thinking that will happen. I'm just hoping game enthusiasts have enough good tastes that those games will get more attention/conversation than RE6.

They should take some of it to heart. They could have made a smaller, more critically appreciated game for less money and sold just as many copies.

agreed, I hope they do take some of it to heart, I don't know if they need to take it all but there are somethings they need to do better.

A bad entry into a longstanding, beloved series will have infinitely longer legs in terms of forum chatter than two good games. Controversy always stirs the pot better.

I'm very proud of these reviewers standing up for the truth of the matter instead of pandering to the producers (in this case, Capcom).

A few miscellaneous thoughts:

* I really have issues with reviewers complaining about the length of games being too much. That seems to me a very particular complaint to do with having to complete the game (for review) within a defined window in order to deliver their copy in time for publication. Normal players would simply put the game down once they've had enough for the time being, and presumably pick it up again at a later point if there's still stuff to do. Less content is better? Who'd a thunk it?

* Jeff Gerstmann is kinda pushing it with his insinuation that getting a score significantly higher than he, or people with similar tastes, would give is indicative of payola. Its basically saying that if, God forbid, someone likes something that he sees no merit too, they are likely to be corrupt. That's really not right.

* Lastly, I really don't get the glee with which some people are handing out/receiving some of these bad reviews. Why are people so invested in seeing something get shat on? There are some really vicious things being said (many of which by people who really ought to know better), and for the life of me I cannot understand what people are getting out of this? Disappointment and caution I can wrap my head around, but some of the gloating vitriol does suggest some kind of agenda at work.

my god at these reviews. i...think I will skip this. I don't trust reviewers, but when they're willing to give a flagship title like Resident Evil 6 mediocre scores like this (you usually have to then internally deduct even further), it's time to abandon ship.

And dumb action games sell more than intelligent and scary survival horror titles.

Which is why they all become bloated in order 'expand their market" to make more money in order to justify the next title in the series.

Something something Dead Space 3.

have you never heard the phrase "less is more"? And 20 hours of mediocre, QTE-infested action does it no favors vs it being 10 hours long.

Action games tend to be more "intelligent" than scary ones, especially these days.

EDIT: One of the things I like about Resident Evil 5 over 4 is its shorter length. 4 was a little too long for its own good. But this is a harder comparison to make since technically Resident Evil 6 is structured in the way of being like... four separate Resident Evil 5s.

I was honestly kind of surprised by that. Usually whenever anyone mentions the meme of games journalists being paid off or in the pockets of publishers and advertisers, Jeff has, in the past, come out and said that that's all nonsense conspiracy theories.

He hates RE4. He is not to be trusted.

Pretty much.

All the hate RE5 got for following in RE4's footsteps I thought the reviews would be mixed, but this is catastrophic. Still getting it. I loved RE5, it was one of my favorite 2009 games.

If anything, I'm sort of glad for this. Capcom deserves to take a hit for their Mega Man missteps.

The game is so bad that even Jeff is beginning to doubt his colleagues integrity I guess.
