Resident Evil 6 - Review Thread | Activist Reviews and the Hate Patrol Destroy Truth™

wiki says they started development in 2010. so at most we're looking at 2 and 3/4 years. at most. if you're just counting from RE5's release, you're probably doing it wrong.

Wiki does not provide a source. They stated 3 and a half years back at Comic-Con, so I'm inclined to go with that.

Hot off Chris humping a panda, we now have:

What's that zombie doing to the guy in the background, ehhh?

I actually enjoyed the demo and my gf loved watching it. The Jake part was definitely the weakest, but the Leon part was kind of neat and the Chris part looked really nice. Is the game similar to the demo throughout? I enjoyed it better than RE5.

And I actually loved some of the quick time events in the demo... wish there wasn't so much hate for those. I loved the scene where you crashed the car and are trying to find the keys, thought that was pretty cool.

I haven't played Jake's yet, but Chris's campaign is better than Leon's. Both at trying to creep you out and as an action game. I didn't expect it either.

I don't give a damn about spoilers, so I've been sponging up some videos here and there and man, this game has some amazing creatures. Definitely the widest variety of creatures in an RE game to date. Also has a model viewer where you unlock 3D figurines, like RE5. Love that feature in games.

I need to know the honest impressions of someone who also loved RE5. After the Internet decided 5 was terrible while I loved it I realized I can no longer trust her.

What's the verdict, RE5 fans?
Her?

I hope you dont refer to the internet as "her".

It has legitimate problems that make it worse off, which is a shame; the new mechanics introduced should have lead to a much better game.

Vanquish is one of my all-time favorite games, but I love the controls in RE6 as well. Their controls are similar in terms of how the character turns, and in terms of how you do quite a bit of shooting from the ground (though of course, in Vanquish you slide 40 yards, while in RE6 you slide four feet).

Really, RE6 has great controls, but I didn't understand them right away. In fact, I hated the demo at first. Then I tried it again, on a complete whim (probably out of laziness since it was on the XMB and I didn't want to load the disk for another game).

Here's what I did differently that made the controls click:

- Dial camera sensitivity down from 5 to 2
- Increase aiming sensitivity from 5 to 7
- Switch from crosshairs to laser sight

Now start learning the intricacies of the controls:

- You can throw yourself to the ground with aiming and X, then tap left or right to roll around your opponent on the ground, or up and down to scooch back and forth, throwing off enemy aim and tracking
- Use the above around zombies, or to avoid the sweeping tentacle attacks of transformed J'avo (the non-zombie, mutant-type cannon fodder in this game)
- You can do a running slide by running and then tapping the aim button; while sliding you can do a 180 pivot turn with a twirl of the stick, and/or shoot while sliding at the same time
- You can do a "quick-shot" by depressing both triggers simultaneously; subsequent taps with, say, the Hydra shotgun equipped as Helena makes you do a series of awesome tactical rolls, firing a round after each roll
- You can shoulder-check enemies by running at them and hitting the dedicated melee button, good for tripping up enemies and handling crowd control
- When kicking enemies with melee, be mindful it's governed by a stamina meter so you can't abuse it; circumvent this by stunning enemies to set up context-sensitive melees
- There is also a way to do on-the-fly counter attacks with a strict window of timing, though the trick eludes me at the moment. There is also a way to duck straight under attacks -- I think you just aim and tap X, rather than aiming, X and a direction to leap to the ground on your back.

Once you have the controls down, the "flow" of the game is more about throwing yourself headfirst into each combat situation, save for times when you're up against fortified enemies with turrets and such -- in those cases, slide into cover to avoid the extra step of tapping X to duck behind the wall, and then pick them off from safety. But really, don't play this as a cover-based shooter, for the most part -- like Vanquish, cover is something to use occasionally to get your bearings on a situation, and like Vanquish, sliding into action for up-close combat is key.

Is there any talent left at Capcom?

As soon as Edge said that the pacing is bad I knew that they have no idea what made RE4 so good.

Holy shit, I didn't like the demo and really had no faith for the game being good, but I didn't expect it would be this bad. Im glad the press is calling it out, but it does suck that it, well, sucks.

i've been playing it since Friday due to the early AU release. I am quite liking it but there are some bits which are complete shit

i'd say 6 out of ten is a fair score. I just don't get where a lot of the vitriolic hate on this game is coming from.

Oh, lordy.

If I were a mean dumb jerk I'd be doing the 'post another review from reviewer' thing but I won't because it's not really relevant even if it was pretty controversial.
Man, reading them say that RE6 of all things is psychological horror makes about as much sense as if someone were to call Silent Hill 2 a dating sim.

Why Capcom why!!!!!!! Like many have said first MegaMan then this...What are they seriously thinking!!! WTF

I mean RE6 is not probably the worst thing out there, but as a franchise it has been constantly losing respect. At least for me , even if it sucked overall worse than 5, I could have still play on the Move for added fun, but not even that.

Its like they said screw it and went Michael Bay on it...I mean after all this how can the game be so bad. And by bad I mean why isn't a new RE game a highlight as before!!!

Such a shame. I'll probably buy it, enjoy it some, either on PC or on PS3 with move, but this IS NOT a day 1, midnight launch type of game...and its RE!

4's pacing bores me to tears at some parts, mainly the castle, which could be removed entirely without incident and would improve the pacing more than anything, even if they didn't bother filling the gap with a better locale. The only parts worth salvaging are the Garrador, Verdugo and Novistador sewer encounters. 5 was a bit of a mess all-round and I felt 6 had better pacing, though it is still not as good as 4 (minus the castle).

Wow this sounds like some major ball droppage.

Welp, guess now's a good time as any to finally pick up Revelations, since I'll be skipping 6. (Unless some massive patching/reworking happens.)
