Resident Evil 6 - Review Thread | Activist Reviews and the Hate Patrol Destroy Truth™

So a game being a little unpolished deserves these horrible reviews? Gaming kind of sickens me these days. This game is dragged through the mud for no real reason other than people being butthurt that you aren't grabbing boring shit and putting it in something else to open a door ,rinse and repeat until you fight a tyrant (the old resident evils) Those games were so boring everyone here needs to stop living in the past. Times have changed people. Go and play Resident Evil 2 and pretend youre having fun. I welcome change and this game is a step up from Resident Evil 4 and 5 which sequels are supposed to be.

How to ruin franchises and lose your core audience that made your games well known in the first place - by Scofield94941

I could replace Resident Evil with Splinter Cell or any shit FPS reboot game this gen and you'll see how ignorant this post is.You're the reason for RE:ORC

I want to know what was so different between this and RE5 that reviewers seem so desperate to pan? It just looks to me like the hate bandwagon is big enough that places like Giant Bomb are hopping on because they didn't have the balls to call out RE5 for being terrible at exactly the same things.

Automatic GOTY

Sorry guys. Tokyo Jungle did it first.

Auto GOTY redacted.

Its a serious contender for the "Animal-Human" category though. Tokyo Jungle wasnt daring enough to top RE6's monstrous fetish.

What a clueless post.

0.2 Metacritic user score. O_O Never seen so much hate for a single game.

specially reading the zeros. Doesn't surprise me... here something alike happened. Like a single person saying 5 times he's cancelling preorder and not buying the game blablabla.

I wasn't one with the idea that reviewers are hating this game for racial reasons (really?), but I see the users (not only here) having an agenda because "capcom betrayed them".

No it isnt. It isnt even remotely the same as RE5 at all.

No, it really is. They've expanded melee and evasive moves, but I play it the same way I played RE4/5 and it works.

The camera is ass and the QTE's are annoying. Other than there's really nothing wrong with the game. Shooting is still as fun and satisfying as ever. It has a lot of variety, plenty of memorable moments and a shit ton of content.

Either RE5 was really overrated or this is really underrated. They're not too far apart in terms of quality.

Looks like it got hit by that Biboran group..

Anyone who thinks RE5 is a good game needs to play Dead Space or Dead Space 2 and play it again. Shit you don't need to play either of those games, just play RE5 again, its such a horrible game. And the response most people will give you is "its so much better in coop though", which is not a valid praise in my mind. Anything is better in with two people, including digging through a pile of shit. The game has aged horribly, and if RE6 is ANYTHING like it, then it deserves all the negative press it's getting.

I always thought that the term betrayal is extremely stupid in the context of videogames.

I played several amazing games from Capcom this year, this is not one of them. And it deserves what it gets now for what it is, a really bad game.

Don't search for an agenda here I don't think there is one. Maybe it's just that bad.

Edit: Yeah, the Metacritics User rating can be described as 'people with an agenda'. But who cares about Metacritics anyway.

i really appreciate that review. i found the demo pretty fun so i'm interested in the game, but it's nice to see it broken down and presented in an unbiased way.

Thank you, and trust me, I've been a long time fan as I stated but really... the game has flaws, I try to present the good and the bad and let people know what they might or might not enjoy. This truly will be a game that some love, some hate, and talked about for a long time.

Does anyone know how the game compares across the two platforms?

There's a review from some site that says 360 version has more technical issues

but the frame rate on the last demo was about 3~4 frames lower on average on PS3.

gotta wait till that Digital Foundry verdict I guess.

I'd like to view this as gaming criticism taking steps towards maturity.

I don't even know much about the game beyond the demo, but to see such a variety in the reviews of a massive release is a breathe of fresh air. No one game can appeal to everyone and it's great to see that reflected in the response. The gaming community's perception of "scores" also needs to be adjusted and this is a good lesson in that. A 2.5/5 or a 6/10 etc can still be regarded as an enjoyable, albeit flawed, game.

Now let see this maturity take a step back when Halo 4 and Black Ops II comes out.

I see the user score on Metacritic is currently 0.6, based off 221 reviews. Now I haven't played the game, but I somehow doubt it deserves less than a 1. You just know there's like 5 guys with no lives spamming that page.

There are only a handful of actual written reviews and the one I checked out just copied the text from the Destructoid review. Probably almost no one has played the game yet.

This kind of thing really annoys me. Grow up, FFS.

bwahahaha. this is truly amazing.

this mentality is what is wrong with the games industry.

RE5 was a transitional game, it was a game that admitted that the old, traditional RE style games aren't going to sell in this day and age and "we need to modernize it and make it more accessible to everyone ." For me, and the very vocal minority of people out there, this sucked. We obviously wanted them to at least stick the shitty, old stupid gameplay and all the silly bullshit that surrounded it, but instead they decided a more action-oriented route was the right course of action. There is nothing inherently wrong with this decision; you have to go where the money is, not where your small (but insanely rabid) fan group want you to go.

I didn't hate RE5, even though I should have, because it still had a lot of those silly old RE tropes that I had grown to love over the course of the series. They forced co-op upon us, but we dealt with it. RE6, from everything that I've played, and all that I have read and seen, seems like such a complete departure from everything that came before it that it is mind boggling that they would consider this the "next step" in the series.

I think that if there is any point where I, as a huge fan of Resident Evil from day one, would draw the line and say "nope, you fucked it up", this is the game. RE6 may be huge fun to action game fans, people who picked up RE5 and consider themselves fans of the series, but for those of us that have stuck it out since day one, I'm done. You have killed Resident Evil for me, Capcom, and I really don't think there is much you can do to save it. Just do the die-hards a favour and put some other name on this line of shit you're pumping out, because calling it Resident Evil is slightly insulting at this point.

Atleast they will control fine and not have camera issues. More importantly thank god they are FPS and do not have RE6 terrible third person camera where you are seeing the characters backside in closeup most of the time while at other times you cant see shit because of the horrible way darkness is handled in this game. I dont know what scores they deserve exactly but they most certainly deserve better than this horrendous game.

That's why people use it. Even when it doesn't make sense (ie a scenario where something like a system was cut half way through but the buggy remains were left in the game)

i know why people use it, but it's the essence of hyperbole. you have to keep one upping yourself in order to stress how strongly you feel, until what? multiple abortions is a really disturbing descriptive

And people getting butthurt about the game not being survival horror. Seriously? Please tell me how Resident Evil 4 or 5 were survival horror. They were action games, through and through. So you have to go back years and years to where this series was straight out survival horror. What were people expecting?

A good game.

Problem is the game isn't good at anything unless you love QTE.

It might very well be a bad game. But I just know the kneejerk thing that's going on on Metacritic right now has really very little to do with the game's actual merits. No way thousands of people have now played the game properly and are able to give a reasoned review. These are just a few extraordinarily pissed off people spamming and ruining a system that's supposed to be there to help gamers out.

Metacritic user scores are uniformly useless. And this is coming from someone who has almost no interest in RE 6.

damn i'm really tempted to buy this just to experience the train wreck first hand.

but then i kind of liked LAIR so maybe i will end up fun

They can be useful if a game has not attracted people with a certain agenda or axe to grind. Cross RE6 off that list.
You're right. I should probably clarify that I really meant bigger games like this. It's always just hundreds of scores in the 0-2 range and then the rest all 10's right when Metacritic flips the switch so that can people submit scores.

The demo was terrible so not surprised at all, hope it also sells way under expectations so they realize what a terrible direction they are taking RE.

Yup. This one seems to be a new low, though. People are really pushing that 0 score.

At least the studios might try to move away and simply distance themselves for the oh-so-trendy "let us make sure our metacritic score is 80+ or 85+" or bind developer bonuses to that when it has been proven from time to time that the user scores are basically useless and that even the reviewers can collectively pile up on something.

And just to clarify, I am not going to buy Re6, I gave up interest in the series since Re4 (which was a great game, even though I did not like it too much.). I will jump back when they return to less shooting, more horror and most importantly: more Claire!

Edit: also, regardless if Re6 sucks or not, a 68 metacritic score by reviewers still means "Go for it if you are a fan of the series, and if you are interested in the story" in my book.
