As someone who really didn't enjoy RE5 and thinks REmake, RE2 and RE4 are the best Resident Evil games I was expecting to really hate RE6.
After playing it over the weekend to get the review out for NZGamer.com I have to say I absolutely LOVED the RE6 experience. While it was no RE4 it manages to beat the living shit out of RE5. I'll be going back for more for sure.
That's neat, but this imaginary category of "real" RE games doesn't really mean anything. RE0 is a terrible game that ensured the classic RE formula would be shot in the head after the mediocre CV/X. Don't blame RE4.

RE defined the survival horror genre and it basically stuck to a particular formula from 1996 to 2002. RE4 threw that formula out the window completely. As the premiere franchise of the genre, it changed the definition of the genre. You can dismiss this fact if you wish. But don't expect me to.
No need to get so bristly over this. I actually do like your precious RE4 a lot, played it multiple times on multiple platforms. But I probably would have liked it even more if it was the first game in a new IP.
While I don't play them for the story personally, I enjoy the story for what it is and find it both interesting and entertaining. In all its pulpy sci-fi glory. It's an odd-ball of a series because it's almost impossible to grasp the full extent of the plot if all you do is play the games, and you're even more at a loss if you can't read Japanese.

I find it a little too uncanny for me, myself. In fact, the uncanny stuff has very little to do with zombies and B.O.Ws and more to do with the puzzle elements to the game. I always find it jarring that a police station has keys hidden in a unicorn statue, or requires you to push and tamper with things to get a key to a basic room. I can toss my sense of disbelief out the window for some silly things, but when it's done in locations that have far less fantasy to them, it really strikes me as odd.
And in regards to the playing aspect, are you referring to the fact there are tons of wikis with lore, or more due to the fact that there are two entries in RE canon that aren't even games, but CG films?
So, is this massive complain about Resident Evil 6 controls not being "up to snuff", "flawed" and "basic gaming mechanics not working" the same kind of complaints about the Original Jet Set Radio re-release?
As in, this game doesn't hold my hand every step of the way and I need to learn it's controls properly, so this game is horrible?
Because reading some of the reviews and impressions, that's what it sounds like.
I don't play it because "OMG I want to know what happens next!" but I really enjoy the characters and the complete non-sensical-ness of it all. Las Plagas causes villagers' heads to explode into a large, scythe-wielding parasite? Cool. Wesker can teleport around and wants to completely saturate the globe? Awesome. The virus was initially discovered from a flower in Africa? Makes sense, tell me more.
It's not a great story but it's entertaining enough in its own right.

They're pretty unapologetic about the fact that story is written around gameplay, and the things you mention are purely for the purposes of gameplay. There's also a pretty big disconnect between gameplay and story, as even in the first game it is impossible to get a "canon" order of events and the second game is a mish-mash of all four scenarios, etc.
In regards to the playing aspect, I mean that there is a lot of information missing from the games and even more missing from the English localization of the series, some of it pretty important to understanding the plot or making sense out of otherwise apparent retcons or plot holes... and mere nonsense. There is also heaps of information tucked away in Japanese guidebooks or sourcebooks, and even on official Japanese websites. It's kind of ridiculous. For example, one plot element from Zero that people take for granted is the idea that Marcus created the infamous t-Virus. In reality, he didn't. He created a t-Virus, a fact which ties into what is stated in the files in CODE:Veronica and BH2, but you'd probably never hear about that from anyone who didn't know Japanese, so it would seem as though they went from there being several t-Virus strains to just one. Character personalities also tend to change depending on the translator, certain viruses get mistranslated into several different names in the one game, etc.
What is action anyways? I think all games should just be considered interactive entertainment. But some games are barely interactive and some are barely entertaining.
Hmmmm.
Maybe just TV or non-TV based interactive or non interactive entertainment that may or may not be entertaining. Much simpler.
Lol at the title. 'TM' is a magnificient touch. Anyway I don't understand the obstinate defence of this sh!tty, the game smell of turd from the demo, reviewers confirm that. If you appreciate it, it's ok but why waste yours time to defend an ip detroyed to the rules of the commercial market. Capcom is gone, unfortunately.
"Survival horror" is a completely useless term that muddles discussion. You can see how useless it is because nearly every thread about "survival horror" games people debate about what is and isn't a survival horror game, with definitions varying from person to person. Survival is an objective in nearly every game ever made, and horror is too subjective to be of use in a genre name.
More irritatingly, it's the fallback word for luddites who can't accept the progress RE4 made in the series. No, saying "RE4 isn't survival horror!! It's not my RE!!" is not real criticism. You are describing it, if anything. And considering it says Resident Evil (or Biohazard) on the box and is considered a Resident Evil (or Biohazard) game by Capcom, it is indeed Resident Evil (or Biohazard.) You can deny that if you want though, but it's a fact.

Actually, a lot of reviewers give the game high scores, others mediocre, others poor. There is no definitive on this game. It's a divisive and convoluted game that does not appeal to everyone, but appeals a lot to others. You need to review your concept of what an opinion is. It's nice to know how you feel, but I think we get the point now. There's being critical of something and then there's being annoying. When you haven't even played it, it's difficult to take you seriously on such sweeping, damning comments. You have valid points, but they're masked behind other more contrived ones.

For the very same reason you waste your time attacking the game for the last few days? People have opinions and defend them. That's the purpose of message board..
And just because you can't define survival horror doesn't mean it isn't a thing. RE4 is survival action. It's great, but also way different in tone and ambiance than what came before it.
I played the demo and while the intro to the Leon mission was surprisingly good (graphics, details in scene sets, german voice acting were all superb imho - I expected a popcorn Hollywood movie like experience), I just quit after 15 minutes. The shooting felt awkward (+that kill/disappearing body sounds...) and stuff like idle zombies while your partner "revives" you killed every immersion.
I then tried Chris' mission...wow at the scene set again... But the rest turned me off pretty quick.

Is that so? Can you cite examples of what's missing in English versions of the games? Would anything have to do with Ada Wong? She's always been too cryptic of a character and I never liked her for that. Her intentions have never once been seen as clear to me, and all I know is she's a spy-esqe character. For whom, I've no clue. And I know some places have said RE5 concluded everything, and I don't recall a single mention of Ada.

I don't call it controversial, anyway. I doubt 69 of average it's something to be happy. Anyway, I have played the demo, there are people here who have defend it just watching the streaming so what's the difference?
I really don't. They're all great games but I actually played 4 after the first two and it felt dated and drawn out by the end. I can get how if you played it when it came out you were blown away but for me I think DS is the horror I want and 5 is the co-op experience I want.

& for example, if I said to you that I like some weird games but I never tried to pass those how masterpiece or 'understimate', change something for you?

This is silly. Its a subset of the action adventure genre with an emphasis on horror and resource management (survival!).
I don't agree that horror is too subjective. Its certainly up for debate from game to game, but it doesn't make the term useless. Do you find it useless to categorize movies as horror films as well?
And with your "survival as an objective" argument I think you are being intentionally obtuse. Its like saying the RPG category is useless because you are playing a role in every game.

Ada's a good example. It wasn't made clear for several years that she betrayed Wesker in BH4, and it wasn't clear who she was working for either. Many assumed that it was the rival company of Umbrella she and Wesker were working for in BH2, and believed that Wesker had betrayed them so they requested that she betray Wesker.
In actuality, while she works for the rival company during the game, she's also a double-agent for an organization led by Wesker but she is ultimately loyal to another unknown organization. She betrays the rival company and Wesker for the unknown organization. The reason there was no knowledge of Wesker having his own secret organization before is because the only reference to it is missing from the localization of BH4. Specifically this line:
LEON ENG: You, working with Wesker.
LEON JPN: There was a rumor you joined Wesker's organization.
Similarly, Ada also outright states that she is not evil in the original text, which is why Leon doesn't get a little more worried that she has something that could completely obliterate the world. In the English script, this became "Don't worry, I'll take goooood care of it" which would imply that she is evil more than anything.
There was also confusion as to where Wesker got the dominant species Plaga (mistranslated as "master" and "control" in RE4 and RE5 respectively, not helping the confusion) that TRICELL have in 5, since that's what Ada was sent to get and supposed to have not given Wesker at the end of 4. In reality, Wesker obtained a dead dominant Plaga from the corpse of Jack Krauser, but this is literally mentioned nowhere except for in the Archives II book.
In the "Las Plagas: Organisms of War" featurette in Damnation, it's revealed that she works for an unknown group but is also an independent contractor, and it's revealed in BH6 that she
screws over her handlers that contract her if she doesn't like what they're going to do, and gives what they wanted to her own organization for some unknown purpose.
There's also a file in Lost In Nightmares that states that she still works for Wesker in English despite having betrayed him two years before, but the original text makes it clear that she has only dealt with him in the past.
Still not strictly new info or revelations on her, but it maps out her actions a lot better, but doesn't help make it any less convoluted.

The RPG category is useless in videogaming, but I use it because I don't feel like typing out "turn-based strategy with emphasis on narrative and exploration" every time I talk about "JRPGs." I am lazy. Still, bad example!
You'd know if you played DS or 5 before it. Again, I didn't play it till a few years into this gen, maybe 09, basically after I beat 5. By then 4 felt a bit outshined, especially by DS which destroys it in environment and sound design. 4's not bad, I just find it funny that people who complain about RE not being scary anymore then list 4 as their fav. 4 is the reason we have 5 and 6.. less feeling, more shootshootbangbang.

Problem IMO besides the camera etc, is the skills system. Once you get level 3 of some of these like weapon damage unlocked, shooting feels a bit better. It's like the perks system in COD kind of, but a lot of it just unlocks the mechanics up to the point where they should be: enjoyable. As has been stated many times, the Demo contains some of the worst areas of the game (that is Chris's worst area).
BTW. One thing that bothered me about Ada for a long time. In her epilogue in RE3 it is implied that "Ada Wong" isn't her real name; that it was just a character she created for the mission in Raccoon City (which, considering she's a spy, would be logical). Yet she appeared in several games now and even ten years after the Raccoon City incident everyone still calls her "Ada". While I can understand why Leon does so, IIRC Wesker did too.
My opinion on terms like survival horror (and other words like gameplay) may be a bit extreme, but I do think there is potential for them to have suitable uses. But from my point of view, they've been misused and run into the ground too much that it's best to just stay away from them despite that potential.

Yeah, Ada's just an alias she uses a lot, but it's not her real name. Everyone calls her it because it's all they know her by, even Wesker. They keep using it presumably just because it's a recognizable name that fans know her by. It made sense for her to use it again in 4 because she isn't in the public domain and the only people who actually call her it are the two that have known her for a long time, but it's clear from Leon's knowledge of her actions that the U.S. government know about her alias and what she's been getting up to.
It's a clusterfuck I wish they would finally address.

I can't agree with 4 being shit, but he's right in that if you like original-style, mainline RE, then 0 and CV and especially Remake are right up your alley. 4, while good in its own right, is the point where the series took a sharp turn. And here we are.
