So, do you guys think IE10 will get a mobile agent? While it's great that Windows 8 has a full desktop browser out of the box, some pages have a great mobile layout and I can't access them, because they only see "IE" and redirect me to the desktop page. GAF Mobile doesn't work on IE, because it doesn't know if you're on a tablet or on a stationary PC. Not to mention that browsing full desktop pages all the time can kill your data cap pretty fast.

haha oh wow

No, just use another browser?

I just noticed i have a uninstallable app: Feed Reader. No mater with i select it from the start screen or the all apps screen, the uninstall option doesn't appear for it (for any other it shows fine).

Is something wrong here, or does this happen for anyone else?

Edit: Sorry, already solved, it was updating, when it finished the uninstall option appeared.

Working on it.

they had it at best buy? weird.
Yeah they had a whole aisle in the middle of the store with Laptops where you could preview W8.

I'll admit to not having followed a lot of the discussion/controversy regarding W8 at home at all, but playing around with it I got accustomed to it pretty fast, and liked that you can switch between Metro and traditional desktop whenever you want...

Did you try the touchpad? I'm thinking the gestures just might make Metro work for me, as moving to the edge of the screen to reveal menus is a pain in the ass.
Gestures on a touchpad were very simple to get used to, but it's something where laptops with bigger touchpads will have a huge advantage over smaller ones. Id tried a tablet preview at the Microsoft store sometime ago, and the gestures were the same...

guess i'll have to go check out my local best buy (i haven't been there in years) and see if I can play around with windows 8 on a touch screen.

Color me confused... is amazon selling the full version of Windows 8 Professional for the upgrade price?

Edit:
They use a phrase like "Upgrade your Windows 7, XP, or Vista PC with Windows 8 Pro" but nowhere do they say this is the upgrade version.

They say the regular price is $130 which is the price of the full Win 8 Pro.

Edit 2:
I totally misread the $130 part... you "save" $130 of of $200 which is in line with what Newegg has in there advertisement for Windows 8 Upgrade. Newegg makes it clear its an upgrade which is... you know... clear.

edit: damn stealth edits! ;)

Just installed Windows 8, loving it. Win+W and right clicking the start icon removed all my concerns with the new start menu.

Though there's an issue. I'm having a lot of frequent slow downs. My laptop is more than capable with handling it, though it seems there's a driver issue since "Windows Driver Foundation" keeps on spiking to 25% CPU usage whenever a slowdown occurs. Resource manager also shows some spikes in disk usage from svchost.exe. Disk usage spikes constantly to 100%, making everything halt for a few seconds :/

Aww shit, laptop doesn't boot from sleep. Bloody hell :/

Lenovo support's down too so I don't even have access to check for driver updates.

lol, my computer came out of hibernation with my BenQ monitor at 29 hertz interlaced. Had to restart to get the option to set to 120 Hertz.

Hey, at least it comes out of hibernation.

I'm sure it will be fixed when I put Win8 on a personal HTPC considering Win8's hybrid shutdown with various pieces of user and kernel stuffed into HDD. Power efficiency will be a must. SSD + Offset Voltage OC + liquid cooling + sleep/hibernation.

But hell, with Haswell's power efficiency improvements and Austin's increased power rates, I might break even building a new PC with an i5 haswell for my HTPC.

So just to be clear, restart with quick startup disabled is a cold restart, correct? If I use CMD shutdown /r, is that cold restart regardless of the quick startup setting?

They show it a bit, but they need to show how it's a versatile OS between desktop/tablet/laptop.

You could have an ad targeted to professionals showing them:
1. Using it as a tablet while traveling.
2. Note taking as a laptop at a meeting.
3. Using as a desktop at their desk with a mouse.

I don't think any other device can do that. It's a huge selling point.

Sounds like more device dependent stuff. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw ads like that with an OEM or for the Surface

Yeah the Release Preview video did a very good job of that.

Okay, switched everything over from Sleep to Hibernate and now it's working. In Safe Mode, Sleep works fine though in standard mode it just returns a blank screen. Can't be bothered going through and disabling all those services one at a time so hibernate will do for now.

edit: hibernation boot up is pretty damn quick

If you weren't aware, Windows 8 uses quick shutdown when no critical updates are scheduled to install. The new boot up process (from shutdown) uses a hibernation-like feature that drivers/main OS just deflates from an image.
