Why should a non-Halo fan care about Halo 4?

First, OP, why didn't you like the Flood? They change up the gameplay in a way that can be really interesting. The people I know personally who have troubles with the Flood have them because they can't adapt to fighting them. They keep thinking that Halo "plays the same," when it really doesn't.

Then how the fuck do you fight the Flood?! I still think they're bullshit and quite Anniversary at the Library. I just don't like them in terms of lore or gameplay.

With that out of the way, there are two really big reasons why you should pick up Halo 4:

1. Halo has absolutely excellent gameplay and mechanics. There are so many interesting ways to approach any given combat encounter that it's a blast to mess around with.

2. They've got a rockstar team. There are ex-Rockstar guys, ex-Retro guys, ex-id guys, ex-Bungie guys, ex-Naughty Dog guys... It's a huge cast of some of gaming's best and brightest.

Also: they're releasing a ton of free co-op content, so there's that.

But will it do this in a way to live up to CE?

*sigh* I guess there's some space in my GameFly schedule...

Amazed by the Halo fans who take the bait that is this thread.
It's cool, vengeance is nigh. I'm preparing my scathing critique of Pokemon Black/White 2 and how it looks like more of the same, so why bother.

There's nothing confusing about it if you have a memory that goes back further than 2007. Halo was the original console game dudebros flocked to before COD 4. It was the game all the non gamer bros at schools were talking about.
But... so? I don't really see how that reflects poorly on the games themselves, which is what I assumed you were asserting.

When I want campaign I don't mean story, just good missions. Honestly the only part of the Halo story that enticed me to begin with was the futuristic military setting and the whole "humans vs covenant" thing. As soon as the Forerunners and Flood get involved my interest drops.

So, you had your interest held for roughly 5 levels over 10 years ago.

.....

Why did you make this thread again?

Really? Shit. One of the things I liked about Reach was that it felt like it was trying to be a leaner, more balanced game where all the unlocks were purely cosmetic. Y'know, you could just sit down and play the game without having to worry about progression.

I think I can give you the best answer to your question.

The SP is made to appeal to the old Halo fans who are interested in a deeper story.

The MP is made to appeal to younger CoD kids.

These kinds of "I don't like Halo" threads should not be allowed. For some reason, Halo is pretty much the only game in the industry that people are allowed to trash talk and I don't know why.
Christ. No. It's not. You must have missed the KH thread yesterday. Or the numerous FFXIII threads. Or the Uncharted 3 backlash threads or the XYfuckingZ threads.

People like different things. Is RedSwirl still an ass? Yeah, but who isn't?

Rent it?

If you don't like Halo multiplayer when you won't like Halo 4 multiplayer. They made a TON of changes (incorporating a lot of modern day FPS elements among other things) but it still feels and plays like Halo. So if you weren't a fan of the non-aim down sights, high jumping, strafe battles. Gun, Melee, Grenades, Power Weapons on map etc etc.... then Halo 4 MP won't do anything for you.

The campaign however looks amazing. Spartan Ops has huge potential. Its like getting 5 new campaign missions every week.

lol

you are the only acting like a child, after someone answered to you that CoD will sell more than Halo.
What?
My only reaction to being told that someone's favorite game CoD will sell more was this:

Who is "he"?
I'm talking about the general atmosphere, not any one particular poster.

How the fuck is that acting like a child?

As for the "Suck it, haters", I posted that one before any reply and it was clearly meant tongue-in-cheek.

I'm a Halo fan and 4 is doing nothing for me. Doubling down on lore and story isn't my jam plus we're getting new enemies at the expense of a stripped down covenant so it's not that huge of a change to the sandbox. That said, I'm going to buy it cause Halo's combat loop is the best in the industry, I just don't see it as the second coming like some others do.

You are either a Halo fan or you're not. Its not the responsibility of others to convince you why you should like something. If Halo is not for you, move on to something else. If you don't understand why people like it, odds are you never will and that's that.

I don't see "Why should I like FF" threads.

Then again, great things will always have haters. It means you have made it with your game.

You should re-read the OP. I never said I disliked Halo, only that I wasn't a rabid fan and didn't see any sign that the franchise was getting any better this generation.

But... so? I don't really see how that reflects poorly on the games themselves, which is what I assumed you were asserting.

It doesn't necessarily. I said dudebro games sell well, meaning games that appeal to dudebros sell. Something about Halo attracts them for sure.

My judgement based on your responses: if don't give a fuck, then don't give a fuck and quit trying to have people give you a fuck.

I'm getting it and I intend on enjoying it.

What is the deal with this type of threads? Today we have a cod hate thread and now a halo hate thread.

It's one of the few shooters that's open ended in its design. The AI is still awesome as well especially in legendary.

This, plus the setting, is what sets Halo apart for me. The Halo series may be a decade old, but it remains a breath of fresh air compared to the hyper-scripted 4 hour shooting galleries with god-awful AI that currently plague the FPS genre.

Its like getting 5 new campaign missions every week.
Ehhhhhh, now.
It's like 5x[2 or 3] enounters out of a campaign level. So on the whole you could call it a weekly campaign level at a stretch. Or 5 new bitesize campaign missions.

Either way, I'm looking forward to it, a lot. It's an amazing achievement. If they pull off the quality that is *elbows lybertyboy*
To try to figure out of Halo 4 had anything to offer for anyone who wasn't already face-deep in the lore and eSports aspects of the franchise.
10 weeks of extra missions and a chance to give the lore a try again now that it's in completely new hands?
I mean the game has to ultimately be somewhat different. Nevermind a completely different culture to Bungie, you have people from every developer you can name who came to make their own Halo game.
*shrug*

I don't even like a lot of the changes they've made! *shrug*

To try to figure out of Halo 4 had anything to offer for anyone who wasn't already face-deep in the lore and eSports aspects of the franchise.

What are you into? The Spartan Ops is something for those who love co-op. That alone will keep you going for a long while. Also the emphasis on Grifball and Infection (flood mode) in multiplayer might suit someone less competitive.

I don't think that 'hate threads' shouldn't exist, but the fact that Halo is the only game that can be trashed on Neogaf without any kind of logical argument ("Halo is a bad game hurr durr) is sort of odd.

Fair enough.

To try to figure out of Halo 4 had anything to offer for anyone who wasn't already face-deep in the lore and eSports aspects of the franchise.
I imagine Campaign and Spartan Ops will be fun even if you haven't read every Halo book.

I honestly don't think anyone can answer this question before the game is out.
* ding ding ding ding *

Multiplayer in Halo has always been the most fun I've ever had in multiplayer FPS games. Nothing comes close. If realism gets you off, I suppose CoD or BF takes that cake for you, but, in my opinion, Halo is as good as it gets when it comes to online console multiplayer. Single-player was always fun as well, but multiplayer has been the lifeblood of the games past the first week or two.

Believe me, I am yearning for Halo 4. I think it looks fantastic, not just visually, but the gameplay tweaks and all. However, I just simply cannot be arsed to pay $60 for an Xbox 360 game, and then pay Xbox Live fees on top of that. PC games at $30-$40 with free online have spoiled me to where Xbox games just seem like they're trying to gouge me for an experience that I feel is inferior.

If you're already in the Xbox/Live ecosystem, I can't see why you wouldn't be getting Halo 4 unless you have a really strong dislike of the series; it's shaping up to be not only a fantastic Halo game, but a fantastic game in general. For those who are doing most of their gaming on other consoles, I think Halo 4 will go right under the radar.

Then how the fuck do you fight the Flood?! I still think they're bullshit and quite Anniversary at the Library. I just don't like them in terms of lore or gameplay.

But will it do this in a way to live up to CE?

*sigh* I guess there's some space in my GameFly schedule...

With the flood, never stop moving, don't worry about killing everyone, use human projectile weapons, and use explosions to get them to send supplies your way. Keyes is the only Flood Level I'd consider genuinely bad.

Cortana is particularly fun once you learn to stealth it.

As for whether or not Halo 4 will live up to CE, I don't know. The people they have working on the game are the best of the best, though, and Frankie, the bossman/fellow gaffer, is ex-Bungie, so he knows his stuff.

You could educate yourself far more efficiently and fill up on all of the media you can handle with searches and existing Halo 4 threads. This thread seems a bit dumb since you're swatting down an unreleased game before it's even out to play yet intent on comparing it unfavorably with already released ones. No one can really satisfyingly answer the fucking question until it's properly out to play through, and even then, those answers will be without the benefit of digesting it, dissecting it, placing it alongside older, mature releases that have had patches, DLC, and just more understanding learned through experience about them.

Because it offers some of the best FPS gameplay around. That, and a new dev is taking a crack at the series adding a fresh coat of paint.

The main character also faces a new threat, so as the start of a new trilogy the game is perfect for those who want to jump on.

Really? Shit. One of the things I liked about Reach was that it felt like it was trying to be a leaner, more balanced game where all the unlocks were purely cosmetic. Y'know, you could just sit down and play the game without having to worry about progression.

This is exactly why I enjoyed Halo mp. I think I might skip it now until a price drop.

I'm pretty sick of people talking about Halo 4. Didn't we decide that Halo was passé? Just because they apparently made an amazing looking game, and people say it's really incredible to play doesn't mean we SHOULD. Sheesh.

UGH! The fight was finished! We finished the fight! What the hell was left for Halo dude to finish!? >:|

That's my major problem with Halo 4, Bungie pretty much closed the chapter on the convent and chiefer's saga. I don't need more chiefer's with Metroid Prime enemies. :/
Actually they left the series wide open at the end of Halo 3. Provided that you finished it on Legendary, of course.

I own a 360, bought a XBox for the first Halo, played 2 (Day 1), 3 and Reach (Day 1) but I haven't felt the magic of the first Halo with the following games. There was always one aspect very disappointing in them so I'm a bit burnt on the series overall as I don't care about the multiplayer. Halo 4 doesn't interest me, yet. I'm not a big fan of the new ennemies but at least it's something new. The thing I like most is that it seems to be back to alien landscapes. I need to see more of the campaign.

What gets me is the OP asks this question AS SOMEONE WHO HAS PLAYED EVERY MAJOR HALO GAME. You might not love the series but you should understand it well enough to know if it's worth looking into or not, based on your experience and what the new game professes to offer.

Give 343 the benefit of the doubt. The fact that it is a different company should give you hope.

Don't compare it to the old games. It's being looked at with a new critical eye.

Not that it will be completely different, but give them a chance.

I personally think the game looks beautiful and really fun. And we know it will have enough gameplay time to be worth $60

You shouldn't care. The single player experience isn't fantastic by any stretch of the imagination - I'm not sure an FPS ever will be.

People play Halo for multiplayer. If you don't care for that, then you shouldn't care about Halo.

Halo 4 doesn't have Firefight.
No. Wrong. I play for the campaign. And with that said I enjoy the story and the sci-fi elements. I also enjoy the gameplay.

Nothing in the world will please everyone. Not even Halo. If you don't like Halo or have no interest in Halo 4, then you just have no interest in it, end of story. I see no problems here.

Unless your job is to make everyone like the game or else you're getting fired.

Story-wise, they're starting anew (or as close to new as a 10 year old franchise with that long background can get). The devs have made it clear that they want halo 4 to be a fresh start, easily accessible to newcomers to the franchise. There's even a cinematic at the start of the game that explains the story so far.

The storyline from the original trilogy came to a close, and now a new one is developing. You liked all the encounters with the covenant? Ok, play the game and see how the encounters with the promethean enemies feel, how the interaction between promethean/covenant factions feels, how new environments feel. The campaign is pretty much a reboot, just play and find out.

As for multiplayer, they're also making it more accessible to newer players and trying to draw crouds from other modern fps games (cod most noteably.) As a halo fan, I'm not too find of that, but hey, you might be. Also, if your mulitplayer experience in halo so far has just been reach, there's your problem. Reach multiplayer is often regarded as the worst of the series.

You like firefight; spartan ops is shaping up nicely to fill that void and more. I'm sure there will be firefight elements scattered throughout.

In the end, rent the game. Play it, you'll either enjoy it or not. You're a big boy, I trust you don't need GAF to tell you why to like something.

I'm picking up H4 because of its quantity of content (higher chance of something being there that I actually like), the fact that I got it super cheap at the MS Store (low risk) and that Halo finally realized that if you can't beat'em join'em (Hey, who put COD in my Halo?)
I'm hoping a different studio, which appears to have put a lot of time into the game, mixes things up without being too afraid of their rampant fanboys to appease someone who gave Halo the boot before.

Am I setting up for disappointment as I did with H3? Probably but I can bail and sell my copy at my upfront cost (and probably gain a buck or two)....so, three cheers for low risk investments!

Worst case scenario, if the advertising is any indication, I'll get a MST3K laugh at how bone dry and yet extrodinairely dumb the story is with a friend or two with similar senses of humor. Best case scenario, my enjoyment of a series is rekindled and when I'm in the mood to shoot things, I'll have options.

I loved Halo: Combat Evolved back when it was released for the original Xbox but never played any of the following games. I got my share of the annoying enemies (especially their sounds) and didn't feel any interest in the weapons, story etc.

Yet there has always been a warm and comfy place in my heart reserved for Halo and right now I'm super hyped for Halo 4. Annoying enemies? Gone. Weapons? New. Story? Refreshed for a completely new trilogy.

Can't wait for Nov 6th :-)

When I want campaign I don't mean story, just good missions. Honestly the only part of the Halo story that enticed me to begin with was the futuristic military setting and the whole "humans vs covenant" thing. As soon as the Forerunners and Flood get involved my interest drops.

So you only liked Halo 1 for about 10 minutes? The first level involves Halo, which was built by the Forerunners so they became involved in the story early on in the game.

If you don't like the game, then don't buy it at all. Why did you even make this thread? It's like your asking people to force you to like Halo 4.
