Why should a non-Halo fan care about Halo 4?

This is how this thread has made me fell this whole time.

Give 343 the benefit of the doubt. The fact that it is a different company should give you hope.

Don't compare it to the old games. It's being looked at with a new critical eye.

Not that it will be completely different, but give them a chance.

I personally think the game looks beautiful and really fun. And we know it will have enough gameplay time to be worth $60

See most of the time when a franchise changes developers people get scared. Maybe I'm not all up on Bungie's reputation with fans? Are people really that optimistic about 343?

This. You shouldn't care if you're not already a Halo fan. No need to feel obligated into liking something if it's not your thing.
Precisely.

When a new Pokemon or Madden game is released, I ignore it. I don't sit here wondering why I'm not into it.

They weren't. Then they heard some of the music. Then they saw some screenshots. Then they saw some of the multiplayer, then they saw some of the maps. Then they saw some of the campaign, then they saw Spartan ops, Forward Unto Dawn web series etc...

People went from utter fear to nergasms. It happens.

I wouldn't consider myself a big fan, but I am interested in the latest game since it looks to finally be taking a new direction.

But I don't pay for Gold, so half the game is locked out from me. Because of that it'll be a buy used and return within seven days kind of game for me.

Because it looks kind of like the Metroid Prime 4 we'll never get.
If it's actually a semi-open adventure based around getting new powers and unlocking more areas similar to a proper (good) Metroid I will gladly jump all over this. As is it seems to be just a few MP-esque visuals and enemies, along with a grapple beam, and that's just superficial flavoring that is completely beside the point of why I play Metroid.

It's not like the game has been handed off to some random developer who had previously made a C-grade FPS before, Microsoft literally hand picked the best talent in the industry which included several Bungie people.

I was extremely sceptical that they could capture the Halo essence, but the first released screenshots put that to rest, then the previews came, then my own experience came, I am 100% they can deliver something that is at the very worst....as good as Reach.

I am. They have good people. They have some people that have worked on Halo, and love halo.

Granted, they are an unproven commodity. but its not like Halo got handed off to a bunch of nobodies

And I think we all know that Bungie was tired of Halo. They didn't WANT to do it. So id rather play a passion project then something Bungie didn't want to make anymore

Eh? There's no grapple beam in Halo 4.

And the only thing I hold against 343 is that they refer to Master Chief as "Chief".

Jesus people.

CE>Reach>3>ODST>2

ODST is so radically different I'm not sure you can compare it. I started having fun once I realized that I wasn't the Chief, so I couldn't play it like Halo. I started choosing my battles and sneaking where I could. Turned the game into a masterpiece.

Halo 1 was cutting edge back in the day. That shit felt fresh.

None of the other Halo games have even come close to that same impact. Which kinda sucks.

Swore there was something like that. Maybe it's just turning the enemies attack on them instead that I vaguely recalled then? Whatever was shown in that E3 footage.

Buy Halo 4 for the campaign, multiplayer will be pretty shit. You've got a new enemy, new environment and spartan ops which will extend the story. I also agree with you that halo CE had the best campaign, none of the others were as captivating.

Why would you think this?

That was Master Chief fighting a Forerunner dude. The part where he grabbed the dude's head or whatever was a scripted event, actually. There are enemies that walk on walls, however.

Because 343 seems to be taking a bit too much inspiration from COD

Halo 2 did because of it's multiplayer. This was the first major internet game on the consoles.

But it's true that the franchise never felt like a revolution like it did with the original. I'm glad Bungie decided to start a new IP. I think they realized Halo had been milked for all it's worth. The FPS genre needs another revolutionary game like the original, not just stuff
that keep building on the previous game.

COD in space.

It's more like Halo multiplayer with some light CoD trappings. The unlock system isn't so much progressing to better weapons, but rather progressing to weapons you might prefer. For example, the BR and DMR are roughly equivalent, but you might prefer one over the other. So you might choose to spend your unlock points to get the DMR.

Killstreak/deathstreak bonuses are present in some game types, but they're not offensively done. So if you're dying a lot, you might get the option to drop down an overshield or a SAW.

Sprint is always available, and frankly that's a welcomed addition.

Respawns are instant in slayer, which I don't have a problem with.

Numbers pop off over people's heads when you kill them. But who doesn't like that?

Redbox it. They dont even include the MP disc.

OP just needs to go soak up the media blitz to get in on being excited for Halo 4.

Watch Forward Unto Dawn's Episode 1-3.

Watch the vidocs that 343i has put out from the various aspects of the game. (Music, campaign, multiplayer)

Watch the launch trailer.

I never got the Halo hype and probably never will.

Maybe it is because I've been playing FPS games on PC for ages and have higher standards.

Maybe it's just not for him/her...?!

But it took him/her a long time to figure that out... That's for sure.

Again, I never said I disliked Halo. The general impression I got from playing all the games in 2010 was that they were never able to fully repeat the quality of Combat Evolved, which I would probably put in my top five FPS campaigns ever (minus Library).

I think that game is nice, but I just don't car much for the lore which seems to be the center of all the marketing and coverage I've seen for Halo 4. I dunno I still can't find that much campaign footage from the game.

I really don't understand. You want to see more of the campaign, but you hate the lore?

What a thread, will we see a series of these threads?
I'm wating for "why should a non-pokemon/bioshok/assassins creed/dead space- fan care about pokemon/bioshok/assassins creed/dead space"- threads in the next weeks.

In short: if you aren't a fan of it, don't force yourself to care about it, nobody does.

How can anyone not enjoy the sheer thrill of skimming across large maps in a ghost and splattering some poor bastard who is in the way.
