I find Pop-GAF utterly baffling (RANT)

If there's one thing you can credit POPGAF for, it's the fact that their GIFs are flawless.

Y'all use such BASIC GIFs elsewhere. It's just EMBARRASSING how terrible some of them are. And how overtly abused they are.

You can't say that after Kitchen posted that gif just before lol

I can't imagine anyone hating POP-GAF tho. They seem like a pretty fun loving group.

only thing that drives me nuts a little is when they address each other as 'Sis'. So are they male or female? I MUST KNOW.

Well, the majority of POPGAF consists out of gay men. They often address each other as "sis" or "hun". Hell, even I call them sis or hun sometimes, being a hetero and all. It's just part of the lingo that's being used there.

Dont forget Azealia Banks!

How could I forget? She's so good.

I tried to show my love for her to the Hip-Hop Gaf community. And got dragged hard.
Still recovering

Yeah, I don't get it either OP. A bunch of creepy weirdos. To me, they're no different than the people on that scenekids website.

I am cool with people liking whatever. The one thing I'm actually curious about is the celebrity worship, is it real or just a joke?

Most people actually just really like their favorite artist like the rest of the people in the world.

The deifying of the names and the worship is just all in good fun, really. It's tradition, so we do it.

Like Godzealia Banks, Beysus, Godney, Godga, Adelephant, etc

It's exaggerated, so more of a joke than real. There have been many rational arguments in the thread.

Alright, good to know. That's the only aspect that bothered me, good to know it's just exaggerated fun.

I'm in awe of anime-gaf - It takes them less than a month to hit the post cap

Simply breathtaking. I could never post on such a high level, some days I still feel like a junior member

I agree that Pop-GAF is banal, fluffy pap, I just don't see how that differs from people who obsess over sports or soap operas or video games or any other form of insipid entertainment. They're all ultimately very silly. Generally, I always think it's funny to see (As an example) a boyfriend who ridicules his girlfriend's enjoyment of E! reality TV shows, while she can't stop rolling her eyes at all the time he spends watching grown men beat each other up in UFC or the NFL. The inability to recognize the symmetry of their preferences is odd to me.

They're both silly, and that's okay, as very few people spend every moment of every day curing cancer. I think it's odd that some banal ways to relax and unwind (video games, sports) are considered acceptable here, while others (soap operas, Pop-GAF) are not. I can imagine condemning them all (if you believe humans should always be working their hardest), and I can imagine condemning none of them, but condemning some while accepting others doesn't seem logically consistent to me.

I want in on this.

Pop-GAF is awful.

granted, I do find the way many POP-GAF peeps behave in threads outside of the official thread to be the pinnacle of annoying, and bordering on idiotic. I do think it's refreshing/highly self-aware that POP-GAF as a whole doesn't take themselves as seriously as pretty much all of GAF's sub-communities.

you tried, tho.

Do you know how fucking long it took me to find a video where the localisation fuck up left the name as "PRESS" instead of "CRUSH".

Do Xtincta stans READ? we are EXTRA in the other threads because baboons just hate it :D

GAF is only a tiny speck in the vast ocean of the internet that is full of creepier stuff than we can even comprehend. We should just try to get along instead of fighting and making fun of each other.

Peace.

The weirder thing is the model factory pop stuff like K-pop, J-pop, or Simon Cowell bands. SNSD or whatever STD-sounding abbreviation. When I think of those model factories where they pump out these manufactured character archetypes that are zoned into certain people's personalities, I just think Perfect Blue.

Beautiful women and catchy music. What is not to like?

Good to know, as long as they don't take it too far and end up in the news :P

This is off-topic now, but soap opera and action movie are two gender-oriented guilty pleasures I can understand as being the two sides of the same coin.

An element of soap operas like convoluted plotlines is bound to end up in a long-running show and that part of soap opera is fun to get invested in and predict what'll happen. It's too bad most soap operas look like shit. Enough that people are lambasting the new Hobbit because its 48 fps might remind them of soap opera.

Give them a break. Xtina stans are so impressively dedicated to mimicking her career they're playing catch-up to the thread. #BLESSED

He calls Christina Aguilera, whom Mr. Stern says he has loved since high school, throughout a career marked by soaring highs (she recently scored a No. 1 single for her brief cameo in the Maroon 5 song “Moves Like Jagger”) and plummeting lows (“Burlesque”), the Great Legendtina of Former Floppiness, who sits on a “throne made out of unsold ‘Bionic’ albums.”
