Halo 4: Review Thread

It really, truly is. The EG review employs salient criticisms that are articulated far better than their contemporaries have managed. While an apparent 8 would tell a layperson that Eurogamer looks ambivalently upon the game, the actual content of the review is anything but.

An 8 is a great score - at least if you actually use a 10 point scale with 5-6 being average.

IGN video review had slight spoilers imo, but I have been on mostly media blackout for this game for a while so I probably shouldn't watch any and just play it on Heroic when it ships.

So basically, this is more Halo business as usual.

Good. I love Halo and I were worried they would turn it into something else.

Pretty much sums it up - most of the 'negative' points /reviews are criticisms for being too Halo, where a lot of Hardcore fans were worried about it losing that Halo 'feel'.

To a certain extent 343 were always going to be damned if they do, damned if they don't, it looks like they've struck a perfect balance to me.

Exactly, I have so much respect for Parkin. He's pretty much their best reviewer.

CVG 8/10 http://www.computerandvideogames.co...nning-reprise-of-classic-halo-moments-review/

The comments about the game's scale have me a little bummed. :/

Just from watching some parts of the leak streams that doesn't sound right, I remember seeing quite a few enemies on the screen at once and thinking, shit, that's a lot of enemies.

Didn't 343 also say they were building the biggest levels in a Halo game when someone was worried they would be narrow?

hi guys

i played this game and had access to the NDA. a few of the reviews i've seen so far have treated the NDA very closely wow lol :)

there's a lot we were not allowed to talk about in the campaign (all good dont worry, MS was just super worried about spoilers)

game is fuck awesome btw

also if someone says the game doesnt have tons of guys on screen at once, they are full of it :)

It plays like Halo?
If I wanted something that played like the older games, I'd play the older games.

New company, new trilogy, and yet more of the same old same old?

Sorry, but that's just plain boring. Take the gameplay in a new, fresh direction; don't just regurgitate the same shit we've been getting for the past 12 years in a prettier package and call it a day.

Halo 4 is a masterstroke everyone can and should celebrate, and its two guaranteed sequels instantly make the next-generation Xbox a must-own system, with Halo 5 its most anticipated title. Halo has been rebuilt. It has been redefined. And it has been reinvigorated. The Xbox's original king has returned to his rightful place on the throne.

lol IGN can´t wait to get a Durango.

Such crap. Gamespot, IGN etc do a fine job articulating their issues with the game too.

I should have instead said "out of the reviews I've so far read." My mistake for jumping the gun. You must forgive me: in all my prior experiences in consulting these sites for their opinions on games, only in very rare cases does Eurogamer come up short.

Gamespot and IGN's video reviews are great. After Gerstmann's shitty Borderlands 2 review, I don't put much stock in anything he says. No biggie.

I felt the same way about Borderlands2, after putting 150hrs into Borderlands1.
Great game no doubt, but felt like I was playing the exact same game, just in different areas.

Maybe reviews should offer up 3 review scores.
Custom Halo4 scores for you:

8.5 = You've never played this franchise before. You'll like it.
10 = You are a big fan of the franchise, and looking for more. You'll be lovin' it.
7 = You've played the previous games, and am looking for something new to the series. You won't be too impressed.

I put far more stock into the opinions of the GiantBomb guys, than I do GameSpot and esp IGN.
Still remember that 10/10 for GTA4...

The problem is if they had radically changed it people would have not liked it.

If you don't like halo you wont like H4 but those who like halo will fucking LOVE it

edit: you may as well string me up as well. It is the best halo yet, it was the one that connected most with me, at least since Halo 1. Definately the best of this generation

Gameplay wise, it's largely what you would come to expect out of a Halo.

Uh... huh.

Not that I'm expecting/hoping for low scores, but a lot of these reviews are giving out realllllly high scores for "wow amaze they did it they made Halo again". Very interested to try out the game. I guess the level design is bar none?

Except when it comes to not standing up for journalistic integrity.

Except Borderlands 2 was a huge disappointment. I still liked the game and played it to completion, but I played hundreds of hours of Borderlands. BL2 only sucked me in for 25 or so.

You can be disappointed in a game and still like it. Halo 4 will likely be the same. Fun, but a let-down.

Halo 5 is a Tetris variant confirmed.

Except Borderlands 2 was a huge disappointment.

No it wasn't.

Seriously congrats to 343 for taking the handoff and showing whats in store. I actually said "Jezuz" at a couple of those reviews.

I'm a pretty darn happy guy tonight. Can't wait till everyone gets the chance to play on November 6th.

I cant take the reviewers that wanted innovation seriously. Halo is Halo is Halo. There has not been innovation to the series whatsoever after the first one, its a great series that improves on each entry, dont break what works.
