The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Hey guys, been a while since i played Skyrim im planning to return with my retired rogue but i had a question about mods .

I was wondering if there is any mods that add or modify the loot table so items from Cloak/armor/sword mods like Jaysus mods or Cloak of Skyrim are droped from monster or found in chest .

I do zero crafting in the game and most of the new items from mods are usually acquired from crafting from what i see
Cloaks of Skyrim has drops/loot in the wild. Not just crafting. Check out Heavy Armory, on my phone so I can't remember if it does that too.

Usually it is the mod that adds the items to the leveled lists (So the items will appear in the world) so there's no specific mod that does this, look in the mod description if the feature is included.

Are there any good idle animation mods out there like there are for Fallout?

Thank you very much. Idle 02 is my shit.

Edit: Does anyone find that things are too damned dark with lighting mods? I'm using Superl3 ENB-RL that comes with some variation of the Real Lighting mod, and while it does look very pretty, I can't see for shit in dungeons. I ran up on two bandits without even realizing they were there!

Yea, way too dark. If you have the Realistic Lighting addon.esp(which is outdated anyway) that came with SuperbENB you should uninstall/delete it from the data folder data and go to the Realistic Lighting with Customisation page and you can use a version with brighter interiors and dungeons.
Then you can also try out these other mods:

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17416

Wear it on the front and buy the book to adjust settings. Makes it all worthwhile.

Also I got this one which just adds a bit to atmosphere:

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/18916

Make sure to run BOSS after installing anything.

Install Climates of Tamriel - Project Reality and select between Brighter Nights 1-4.

Are you using a sharpen filter or something? Sharpen filters really make a mess of the image quality. Other than that, looks good (although way too green/blue for my taste).

Jasmin has some effects that gives the game the look it has and you can control the brightness/sharpness filter with the 1+PGUP/DWN keys. Regarding the color, those screens were just from one dungeon, i.e. dwarven mine with the same green lighting. Color changes depending on the setting and weather, so for example;

Yellow in-door lighting in some areas give this color:

White in-door lighting:

Blue in-door lighting

Outside lighting during day in some areas:

Outside lighting during rain/mist:

Sorry if the images are too much - if it's too much of a hassle for anyone, just say and I'll correct the post.

I liked your Jasmin config, but I think the ambient lightning outside during the day is a bit too much, looks incredibly bright. That said, great screens, your game looks superb.

Thank you freddy and Lime, you're both princes.

I went with freddy's recommendation because I saw his post first, and am liking the results so far with RL 3.5 using the brighter rooms + dungeons configuration. I'm excited for 4.0, which looks to include some terrific features. Not sure if I need to check out the lanterns/ambiance mods as I haven't yet done any world traveling or dungeon crawling, but I'll keep them bookmarked for the future. Climates looks great if only for the weather/sky enhancements, so I'll definitely keep that in mind as well.

I've spent way more time in the past few days researching and playing with mods than I have actually progressing in the game. The work that modders have done is just fantastic, and I plan on checking out more custom armors and weapons after I play through the story with my sneaky arrow-mage knight (I don't know if this build is plausible, but damned if I'm not going to try). Might look into a video card upgrade as well, since my trusty GTX 460 begins to show its age when either SSAO or DOF are enabled; they make the game look that much better.

I'll experiment with BOSS, although I'm not sure if I've already passed the point of no return after having manually installed so much stuff. I don't even know what's safe to remove at this point, it's so easy to lose track!

Thanks again for the help, guys. And Lime, your screens are very much appreciated.

I'm a big fan of the AWOP mod from Fallout New Vegas (the one that added over 100 new areas and sets of gear). Has there been any Skyrim mods that has done anything like that?

This looks pretty bad. Those trees look terrible and there is a graphic glitch on the land to the left of the character. Also everything looks waaaay too sharp.

Personally I think Opethfeldts 6.0 ENB is probably the best out there. It's too bad AMD cards are so bad with ENB and this game. I have a 6950 2GB, 2500K @ 4.3ghz and 8gigs ram and @ 1920x1080 with SSAO, SSIL, DOF, etc in enb my frame rate is around 35 max. I drop it down to 1360x768 and I can get up into the high 40's. I can't play this game at anything under 60 anymore after experiencing it.

If Skyrim was optimized for AMD cards like it is for Nvidia cards this wouldn't be a problem. I think Nvidia cards get almost 1 1/2 times the FPS that AMD cards do when using comparable cards.

Moonpath to Elsweyr looks good but I haven't tried it yet.

Check out Locations, New lands, Dungeons and Quests on this page as well. Make sure you read the comments first some of those will be dodgy.

There are heaps of gear mods too.

Eh, that's the draw distance, that has nothing to do with the applied ENB, i.e. it depends on how your set your ini files.

How well does Nvidia's Ambient Occullsion work with Skyrim? Nvidia states that it might cause some issues, but it sounds awesome. Any real-world experiences?

It made my trees slightly transparent for some reason. I really didn't see the point in it and didn't notice when it was turned off really. This was just messing around before I threw a heap of graphic mods on because I like to fiddle with things

I just replaced my GTX 460 today with a Radeon HD 7950, and I'm a little underwhelmed by the difference in performance. It's better, to be sure, but I was expecting it to be buttery-smooth with ENB settings maxed. For whatever reason, it has a strange jittery effect that is fixed by running in a window, but it's annoying when I never experienced the problem on the nVidia card. Thankfully, I've other titles to play that seem better-optimized, but it's still a bit of a let-down knowing I didn't really have to spend that money.

Anyway, I switched to Jasmin ENB and settled on the Vision configuration in RL. I get slight blurriness outdoors for whatever reason (the 1+PGUP/PGDOWN seems to only work indoors), but I can see at all times during gameplay, so I'll take it.

You should be able to turn Depth of Field off in the enbseries.ini or whatever its called in Jasmin now.

EnableDepthOfField=true

It should look something like that. Change it to false and save. If you don't like what that does change it back.

Eh, that's the draw distance, that has nothing to do with the applied ENB, i.e. it depends on how your set your ini files.

I can tell that there is no Land shadows and no grass shadows applied. That could be part of it. Not sure what rig your running though so maybe you have to make due.

Here are some pics of my game running without ENB. 1920x1080, 16AF, SMAA Injector, everything on ultra besides shadows(high) Ugrids @ 7 and some other INI tweaks. I also use Dxtory to cap the FPS at 59 so i have no stuttering. I run pretty much 60fps but it does dip sometimes into the mid 50's when I am in a place with ALOT of trees and grass like in these shots in 1st person. If i switch to 3rd person its basically 60 always no matter where.

Only environment mods I am using are.

Vurts HD Summer Floral overall, Purewaters, Skyrim Sunglare HD v4.1, Lush grass / trees, Enhanced distant terrain, Alternative snow, Better rocks & mountains and More Rain.

I can tell that there is no Land shadows and no grass shadows applied. That could be part of it. Not sure what rig your running though so maybe you have to make due.

Once again, this is not intrinsic to the applied ENB, but depends on your SkyrimPrefs.ini, i.e. whether or not you enable the following codes

Code:
bTreesReceiveShadows=0
bDrawLandShadows=0

In my case, my rig is powerful enough (X3 720 BE, 6950) to sustain 25-30 fps with all the mods I have, along with shadows on trees and land, as well as an expanded draw distance. I frankly don't know what your posts have to do with the use of ENB...

Is it easy to swap ENBs? I'd love to see screens using this same setup but with different ENBs to see how they look, but I wouldn't ask if it's a lot of trouble.

It's just a matter of replacing the same files in the Skyrim folder. Easy-peasy, no need to activate esps or worry about load orders. At least, that's the way I've been doing it and it appears to be OK?

Yeah, I've yet to actually experiment with .ini editing that would likely prove useful. I just pop in the default configs and go. I do like the DOF effect indoors, but unfortunately there doesn't appear to be an option to turn it off just for outdoor areas.

Or from the last page:
How much of a performance hit are you taking from all these mods? And what is your rig?

How much of a performance hit are you taking from all these mods? And what is your rig?

My rig is an unlocked (meaning 4 cores) X3 720 BE @ 3.3ghz and an unlocked AMD 6950 @ 900mhz, so they aren't the most impressive specs.

I get ~30-40 fps in-doors, while outdoors with a lot of trees and grass will move between 20-30 fps. However, as already mentioned I use the default draw distance and no tree+land shadows.

Basically the Jasmin ENB you are using does not complement your outdoor pic at all regardless of shadows and draw distance. Everything is waaaay to bright and sharp. Fog looks like a white sheet and the lighting is way too blue shifted.

ENB can kill performance even if you disable AO, SSIL. DOF, etc. This is true for almost every ENB profile. ENB is alot better on Nvidia cards because Skyrim and ENB is better optimized for Nvidia cards.

ENB isn't worth it if all you can really do is take amazing screenshots but your fps is in the 20's.

I think I broke my game, as I'm suddenly getting a mess of random CTDs running through this dungeon. So I grabbed BOSS, which told me my update.esm contained a bunch of dirty edits and recommended cleaning them using TES5Edit. Fine, no biggie, or so I thought until I ran the blasted thing...

my-brain-is-full-of-fi3rl6.jpg

I am officially out of my element. Jesus Christ. I just hope I haven't perma-fucked my game. I just wanna help this guy out with his ancestors, man!

I also downloaded an optimized High Res textures packs mod (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12801) and can't see any difference. I'm probably doing something wrong; maybe I need to run the actual mod linked instead of just activating the .esm's in SkyrimLauncher.

@Souther I'm beginning to see your point. Part of the reason I bought this 7950 was so that I could run these high-quality visual enhancements, but I didn't know how poorly optimized the game/ENB is for AMD cards. Considering disabling ENB entirely because my framerate is all over the place. On a side note, anything south of 30 looks choppy, I don't know how I ever tolerated it on consoles.

I really wouldn't worry about dirty edits tbh. I've had dirty edits in mine for ages and the only crashes I had was when I messed with Ugrids and set the exterior cell buffer way too high in the skyrim.ini

I have a feeling you might have to run The Skyrim Launcher if you change ENB. Something to do with re-detecting the card and rewriting Ini settings.

You said you added a bunch of mods so is BOSS telling you anything about those? Some mods will only trigger a CTD after a certain area is reached or a trigger has been set off somehow.

The texture packs sometimes have a problem with mod managers if you used one of those. They forget to put in the actual hi-res textures. Read the manual install instructions and repaste everything into your skyrim/steam or skyrim/data folder depending what the install instructions say.

Thanks for taking the time to list your mods Lime. I'll be sure to take a look at that list when I get a chance to set everything up.

I've run SkyrimLauncher to enable/disable mods in hopes of alleviating the CTDs to no avail. BOSS told me everything was OK outside of the Dirty Edits in Update.esm, unless there's some other feature I'm supposed to be looking at - I'm using the command prompt version, not the version with a GUI, and all I do is run the shortcut and press 0 for Skyrim, which opens up a webpage-like info screen in my browser with a left-side menu.

Anyhow, the crashes appeared to be truly random in a sense that they weren't reliably replicated; in one instance it would be looting a chest, in another it might be performing a sneak attack on a dormant Draugr, and in yet another I could just be exploring, but I never experienced consecutive crashes performing the same action. I wound up simply reloading the game each time and was able to run through the bloody thing in its entirety some 7-8 crashes later. Golldir was appreciative of my efforts, despite my having ransacked his family's treasures.

I don't use any mod managers. There actually weren't any instructions included with the optimized high-res texture packs; they're not the actual mod, and were included as miscellaneous files section. I extrapolated what I could from the file descriptions and just extracted them to the Skyrim folder, enabling the .esm's in SkyrimLauncher.

Huh, I just did some googling for comparison screens between vanilla textures and Bethesda's official HR texture packs, and the difference is pretty subtle. Maybe that's all I needed to do!

Yea I'm not sure on the crashes then. People have said sometimes just using an ENB will crash their game but I haven't had any trouble. Bethesdas' save files are also known to be pretty fickle as well. Sounds like your troubles came after changing the ENB to me. Maybe your save file didn't like changing. Try running round on a brand new save and see if you can get it to crash as well.

Oh and yea Bethesdas' textures aren't that much of a change really compared to some of the user made textures. Even the Lite versions of something like Skyrim HD - 2K Textures will give a much more noticeable effect on things like stonework and trees.

Now that I think about it, I did change my Jasmin ENB settings back and forth between Cinema/Realistic. That's probably what did it. I created a new save after completing the dungeon, so maybe now it'll cooperate - fingers crossed. Will do more 'rimming tonight.

Edit: Just got my first crash while looting a chest. Seems to only happen in dungeons. Curious.

Edit 2: Found the culprit. Seems to have been the Dread Hunter Armor mod I was using (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/21125). I removed the items in console, saved, and deactivated the mod from SkyrimLauncher. Haven't gotten a crash since. It's a bit of a shame, as the armor looked pretty boss. Oh well.

Does something like this work for you? http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4862

That's an awesome mod, will definitely be trying this out tonight. Bethesda put no thought at all into the UI design, as vanilla menus are bloody worthless. Damned consolitis. Thank Talos for the Creation Kit and modders.

I decided (poorly) to check out PureENB last night, which kept me up later than I would've liked. Definitely produces some pretty results, but default settings really seem to go overboard with the whites and the very pretty DOF effect doesn't do much for gameplay. Performance took a noticeable hit, with my FPS ranging from 25-30 - which actually looks worse than that due to what I can only describe as a weird sort of jitteryness that makes things appear less smooth, something apparently unique to AMD cards.

I'll swap my GTX460 back in and do some performance testing tonight; if I get equal or better performance on a 2-year old card, I'm returning the 7950, 15% restocking fee be damned. Sure, Skyrim is very likely the exception rather than the rule, but if nVidia cards really do perform substantially better, I've gotta do it.

Does someone here maybe know what race/face mod this is?

5kRny.jpg

A friend and me search for it for a while now but we couldn't really nail it down especially with the ears and all :/

Thanks in advance for any help!

Doing a fresh Skyrim install and plan on creating a new character. So far out of the mods I had before I'm only getting 2K Textures and Climates of Tamriel. Plan on trying out ENB, though I haven't decided which one yet. Not sure what to add from there, I don't want any huge gameplay changes, simply better graphics, sounds and there's nothing wrong with more content. Recommendations? I'm running an i5 2500k, 7970 Ghz Edition and 8GB of ram, so I should be able to run most mod combinations adequetly.

insects/butterflies
Vilja in Skyrim (Most important mod of all time)
And that one that give animals more animal-like behavior. (wolves in packs, animals attack other animals, etc.)
These off the top of my head.

I'll say that Jsmin and Project Enb have been great to me so far. I love Lime's ENB without the sharpening, but Outdoors it feels "off" to me.

Small Gallery of old Enbs

NOTE That set of screenshots was done a while ago. The one of Limes is old and so are most of the others, so they may not be of much use.

I need to DL the latest ones and do another gallery one of these days...

Next time you probably should clarify and state more clearly what you mean when you point out something. Your posts before this one weren't understandable in terms of what your point was, imo. It seems like you're moving goalposts when you are constantly changing topic. But I agree about the horizon vs. ENB thing.

I installed Jasmine ENB and a few other high Res mods, looks great so far. The only issues I'm having is that now night time is really "night time". I can't see a thing outdoors. Is there a file to adjust when your using the Jasmine ENB? Or should I just adjust the default brightness.

I just tried adjusting the COT mod but I think it's from the Jasmin ENB. Would you happen to know what to adjust in the enbseries.ini file for that?

edit: I think it's fixed now. I had another mod that was conflicting with COT.

Heads up for an interesting thing I've discovered in the Nexus, apparently Bethesda did include a way to show in your character a weapon of each slot equipped, for example, you could have equipped a sword, a dagger, an axe or mace, a 2 hand weapon and a bow. It's not 100% polished, but is plenty functional and far better that any mod I tried in that way (and also because its in the game system has 100% compatibility with any weapon). To enable this, simply add in Skyrim.ini
[General]
bDisableGearedUp = 0
And load the game, the weapons that you have in favorites will be equipped in your character, if you have problems, unfavorite and unequip all the weapons, and then favorite them and voilá.

Otherwise, go into enbseries.ini and adjust the AmbientlightingNight and DirectlightingNight values.

Checking out COT, Favorites UI, Skyrim 2K, and that weapon display setting tonight.

I think I'll keep Vilja bookmarked for when I beat the game, assuming you can continue to explore once you've handled the final boss.
