The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Oh, nice. I'll definitely give that a shot.

Are you using that in conjunction with an ENB filter, or just by itself?

Ditch ENB. SweetFX is more than a viable choice. It has a higher recognition but only due to the name and how long it's been around. SweetFX has many settings for SMAA and a host of visual tweaks. The game can really look smooth with some good AA applied.

Hopefully this weekend I'll have the time to settle on my final Mod/Filter configurations and join in on these beautiful screenshots.

Went through the last few pages and I've got a lot of testing to do now :D Thanks to everyone!

So I'm building a new PC, and I can finally take in the full skyrim modded experience.

I'm going from

Q9450 2.6 GHz (Overclocked to 3.2 GHz)
4GB of RAM
AMD 6950

to

i7 3770K (I'm going to be overclocking it into the 4.0+ GHz range)
Gigabyte GTX 670
16 GB of RAM

Oh yeah!

So I remember there being posts on here from Reddit with recommended mods, but I can't find them anymore and it's kind of hard to find stuff like that on Reddit after it gets old. Anyone know where they are?

I'm new to this ENB and Injection stuff and it was kind of the reason why I tried an Nvidia card this time.

That's so funny. I'm running plenty of mods on a machine much weaker than your old one.

Sorry for the noobish questions.

I bought Skyrim a couple days ago and looking at all the mods available I'm a bit lost. There are so many different mods to replace players' models and textures and faces etc etc that I need to ask if there is some definite best combination to get handsome looking men and gorgeous looking women, because for women, for example, I have no idea if I should go with CBBE, CHSBHC - BBP, DIMONIZED UNP female body, UNP BLESSED BODY UNPB - With Optional BBP Breast Physics or something else.

Also, when installing mods (I'm using the nexus Manager), if I'm asked if I want to overwrite something another mod installed, should I do it or should I say no? For example, I installed Better Females by Bella - Better Females by Bella Version 3 and afterward I installed XCE - Xenius Character Enhancement - XCE-1_13, which asks me if I want to overwrite some files Bella installed. Should I overwrite or not?

I don't really use any of the body modification mods, but I'm pretty sure the two most supported ones are CBBE and Dimonized UNP. If you aren't looking to add new armor to the game it ultimately comes down to which version you think looks best. In regards to the overwrite stuff the think its usually asking about is a readme file that doesn't matter, but sometimes there will be stuff that conflict. Its best to check what the author of the mods mention is compatible if there doesn't seem to be any glaring conflict just hit accept on any overwrites. It take a while to get a real feel for what works with and some experimenting with mods and load orders is the only way you'll really learn. The nice thing about using a mod manager is that even if things break usually just unchecking it undoes whatever you did. Any mod that isn't the will say so in its description.

I recommend you don't mod much of the game the first time around, I mean yes use Xenius character improvement some body replacers and some nice textures but don't go modding like crazy, also don't want to be a bummer but getting characters look real good is not easy feat.

I'll point you to what I use:

Cover Kahjiits

Ethereal Elven Overhaul

HQ Beards

The Eyes of Beauty

DIMONIZED UNP Body WARNING NSFW

Thepal skin textures WARNING NSFW

UNP female armors Slightly NSFW

Dawnguard Female Armors If using Dawnguard.

High Res Face Maps for Men by Geonox

High Res Warpaint and Dirtmaps for Men

Pretty Female Idle

ApachiiSkyhair

Catwalk Fix WARNING NSFW I recommend the normal version instead of the exaggerate.

Feminine Running and New Dash Animation

Lovely Hairstyles

Non Whory Looking Housecarls Optional but I consider it an improvement.

I mentioned Xenius earlier, I don't use it because I use UNP and I think it's not compatible but if you use CBBE or Vanilla use it by all means, there are many more mods to enhance characters but I think those ones will make you happy for a while.

Just discovered the "Sexy (insert city name here)" texture packs. Now I have to decide between these and the high-res regular textures in Skyrim HD 2K...I'll have to see them in game. One one hand, the Sexy City mods look incredible, but they're so colorful that it seems a bit out of place.

Thanks to the both of you. Took some of the stuff from that list and now to see if I managed to install everything correctly.

So andybody try this?

HiAlgoBoost FPS Performance Accelerator 2

This mod works some black magic on the game thus drastically improving FPS.
I don't see any downsides on the mod page. So what gives?

It temporarily reduces resolution when it gets choppy, so a few frames here and there will look like you're playing an NES game (exaggeration but still). At least, that was my experience with it.

Bah, I installed TheWilds ENB, and it looks pretty good in certain spots, but everything is really blurry/hazy at night. Screenshots with it activated and without below:

Activated:

NZqCU.jpg

Deactivated:

I can't see shit. I tried messing with the enbseries.ini to make the nights brighter, but it didn't help a ton because stuff is still blurry. Only other mod I'm running that might affect it is CoT. Kinda hard to tell because the screenshots don't really look like what I see in-game, but in the shot with the ENB activated the only things I can really see clearly are the little flower-type plants to the left and the night sky. Everything else looks like I'm trying to see it through a sheet of wax paper.

Does anyone know of a mod (or maybe an ini edit to reduce the zoom?) that makes scrolling through and clicking perks less of a pain in the ass? With mod edited perk trees, particularly with SkyRe, you can't even scroll through them correctly with just WASD, and the UI zooms in so much when a perk is chosen that you can't see many others unless you're at the bottom of the tree. Am I missing some basic UI function that would make things easier?

Thanks for posting that Skyrim GEMS site. That's very handy.

Is there any version of Climates of Tamriel without completely dark nights? Even on the lightest setting, I can't see a thing, but I love the other weather aspects of the mod.

Hey does anybody know what's up with the loading times while using ENB's SSAO?

Sometimes my game won't even load while it's enabled, but when I exit to task manager to try and exit the game... then it suddenly loads. So weird.

edit: Here I'll contribute to the thread. Someone help me please!

I use The Wild's ENB. There's a preset for Climates of Tamriel. Then I went into the enb ini and raised AmbientLightIntensityNight to 1.6. That seems to work pretty good so far.

Apparently some ENB setups mess with the smoke on the loading screens making it very slow to render and thus load. I know people that use these two and it helps them. YMMV. Read the comments before installing.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1852 <----seems this one has stopped working at 1.8 so try the first one by itself.

Thanks.

The no smoke one seems to have sped up my standard load times, but it still won't load with AO enabled :(

Gawd ok... I am looking to get back into the modding scene for Skyrim but I have no idea where to begin again.

I am looking for graphics mods mostly. Lush trees and grass and a good ENB or something similar. How is Bethesda's texture pack?
What graphics mods should I add? I don't mind some de-scaling options or light mods to the gameplay but I would like it to be close to vanilla.

Any help is appreciated.

That's a pretty hefty list of mods.

.

If you use NMM, do you also need to run BOSS? I always thought that functionality would be integrated into the program, but now I'm not so sure.

When I ran BOSS for the first time, NMM's order was slightly different. I dunno if it was actually affecting anything, though. I guess it couldn't hurt.

They should just make that your tag you've been asked so many times, lol.

I've got an interesting glitch and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this. When I use an ENB, any ENB, my bows will become transparent when they are close to another object. So if I crouch and look down, or get close enough to a wall, I'll be able to see through my bow. Doesn't happen with my swords or hands, which is super weird. And if I stand up or walk away from whatever I'm close to they become opaque again. anyone seen this?

Alright, finally got the hang of this whole ENB thing and am now running Opethfeldt's ENB.

Anyone have any custom INI settings you think is mandatory?

Lucky you, I still can't get ENB running. The game crashes. I made the .ini changes but still doesn't work. For a while I had the game loading when inside a building, but now it just crashes all the time with ENB.

My log.log file says this

full path: C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\
redirecting CreateDevice
initialising shader environment

Any ideas??

I don't know if a mod is causing it or if it is just a weather variable, but there's been 2 times now, outside Whiterun where it is heavy thunder and lightning but I don't see any rain coming down.

I have Climates of Tamriel as well as WATER (Doubt this affects it).

Also, the Static Mesh overhaul required revamped exterior fog.. even though I hated the comparison shots for the mod and thought it made the game looks less like it should.
LLShC.gif

My game seems to have a lot less fog and it seems like the distant fog doesn't move anymore. Maybe my memory is hazy, since the last time I played this was almost 6 months ago?

Is it inadvisable to resume a past save game when installing a whole slew of mods? I last screwed around with Skyrim around August but I ran into some mod glitches that annoyed me so I kind of forgot about it; would like to play around with mods again but don't wanna lose my save (about to finish Thieves Guild).

If you haven't already, back up your save files. I also tend to back up my Skyrim game folder as well (Data and all that) along with it, so I have that "build" of Skyrim with the save files that went with it.

Copy those things in a safe location, then mess around with mods. So, if something does go wrong, you only wasted your time modding, not your time invested in the game through your character(s).

GOT IT! It was MSI Afterburner crashing the app.... Now I need a new screenshot capturer.
I thought Skyrim captured screens natively? It's just PrntScrn isn't it? I've got a whole bunch of screenshots sitting in my Skyrim folder under Steam.

ENB runs fine for me, I just can't find any that I like. They're either too "bloomy" in the day or way too dark at night. I don't like the idea of not being able to see a damned thing for half the my play time.

Those are probably the Steam Screenshot right? That doesn't take good shots to my. But I'll try printscreen.

I haven't been in any cavern yet. But you could always hit shift F12 in a cave so you can see better.

Also I want my OC for my 7950 which is why I want MSI running.

edit: Does anyone know if Trixx works with ENB?

Yep, anyone with problems needs to read the documentation on the ENB site before they do anything else.

ENB site said:
Problems-
Some third party software not supported, you must unload such tools. The problem is in their method of brute hooking of d3d. Ati tray tools, D3D Overider, EVGA, MSI Afterburn, XFire, Mumba - are not compatible.
Laptops with NVidia Optimus cannot use NVidia card and switching to gpu integrated on cpu. To fix that you need to turn off on cpu videocard in bios.

Aaaargh! I stuffed something up. I accidentally deleted and then restored a whole bunch of files in my Skyrim folder. When I launch the game it loads the game but everything is black except I can see my HUD just fine and I can press start and go into my menu. I get a message saying "SSAO disabled" but I have it set to TRUE in the file?

help please!

I had something like that happen when I messed with some ENB settings. I've only seen that SSAO disabled message from ENB. Perhaps delete/uninstall all the ENB settings you currently have in the folders and start over?

Here are some screenshots I've taken using a custom enb on skyrim, (mostly Opethfeldt6), using nothing more than the official hi-res texture pack through steam, and the few mods that came with Opethfeldt6.

I pretty much run at 60hz everywhere, (660ti sli, Windows 8), I still can't pick my jaw up off the floor while I'm playing. I get the feeling like I'm playing in a Pixar movie at times.

I'll upload more pics as I go along if anyone is interested!

Have you modified the enbini at all, or just using one of the presets? That looks great. Which version of ENB does that use?

Yes, I use Opethfeldt6 as a base, then enable depth of field in the enbseries.ini. I then replaced the enbeffectprepass.fx file with the one in Kalicola's preset, (to use his depth of field instead).

I am still so blown away by all of this! I can't believe the kind of lighting simulation we can get with AO and IL. Amazing!

Fairly close to the changes I made and I agree. Opethfeldt6 really is amazing compared to the others I tried.

That looks MUCH better than any other ENB I've seen... but do you really use that DoF when playing?

I finally bought dawnguard and hearthfire in the last steam sale and started another playthrough today only to notice all those out of place looking "Stone Quarry" places everywhere (besides my new home for example).

Since I could not find a texture replacement on nexus I made one myself and thought I share it even though I´m apparently the only one who finds those textures horrible considering I didnt find a mod for it (there are texture mods for almost everything but not for those big patches of low resolution "stone" on the mountains?).

If Im not the only one: There you go.
