The crazy thing is how public these people are with the abhorrent societal views. They have a couple of screws loose to blatantly put this stuff out on the Internet with their name tied to it. The person who decided to collect the evidence of it all and put in one place is an ingenious idea. More power to the person assembling this.
I don't even know how to tackle this. These are openly racist people we're talking about here... yeah, don't even know why you're trying to smooth out lines like these fuckers represent the common man.
They are commenting on the race of the black president. That is what the story is about. Think about it.

There is no possible way I can meet and get to know everyone in the world, nor do I have to. People openly spouting racist shit on the internet just makes it a little easier to get a glimpse and move right on. Thats why this won't have long lasting effect that people are making it out to be. It certainly does give them the opportunity to think about what they said though. Own up to your mistakes and take responsibility, whining and playing the victim only tells me you haven't learned a damn thing.
Condemning racism is not a moral high horse, the fact you are spouting that gives me a glimpse into your thinking. I have not once used a derogatory word towards another human being, even in my own head. It's really not that hard to do, especially on the internet where you have much more time to parse your words before making a post. If the people on that site learn about it and choose to think about what they said and how they think and actually want to grow from it, good on them. Anyone that actually interacts with them will have an opportunity to see if they changed. If they never get called on it then the chances of them changing plummet. .
Because they are incredibly selfish and won't help out anyone or do anything unless they personally benefit from it. They will lie and falsify results in order to avoid doing more work, etc. This applies to 95% of Chinese researchers that my wife has encountered according to her.

Their actions would have repercussions for their life no matter what venue they choose to drop nbombs everywhere. I mean, as always, I get why theres a defense of these kids. But the hate coming from them is very mature, its very offensive, its hurtful, and they should be reminded of this when they can't get a job or whatever it is, because of it. They are learning first hand that there are reactions to your actions. The world they lived in, before they learned it was NOT ok to call blacks niggers, that bubble, needed to be busted. And I'm glad it was just shaming, and not any violence by any nutters out there. Most black people are aware of the general layer of racism in the world. The lady grabbin her purse on the elevator, some guy crossing the street because you're on one side of it, etc. You're used to it by now. There are the nuts though...

The tumblr isn't doing anything illegal. Anyone could have accessed those details.
When you post something on the internet, assume that you're shouting something out on a crowded street monitored by cameras at all times.

Speak for yourself, man. I've never called somebody a nigger/spic/etc/etc and then proceeded to firmly suggest that they should be killed.
I've said some shitty things I've come to regret over the years, but never anything like some of the things I'm seeing on this tumblr.
If I ever cross the street when you are walking the other way don't take offense. I would cross the street for anyone, social anxiety issues. Especially old ladies, they may try to talk to me.
To be fair, I think it's actually very fair. Don't be a racist or bigoted idiot and don't get called out for it. Who knows, might even help towards reducing their racist mantra in future.
The only way this would be an analog to a witch hunt is if these people weren't racists. People need to know it is unacceptable to think and speak and behave in the way they are.

The sad thing about this is that everyone does mistakes and everyone goes through phases of life when they hate people for no apparent reason.
Difference from me doing this and using that to carry on with life, is that these people might get their lives ruined because of this.

Think and speak however you want. Just don't bitch and cry foul when called out on racist/sexist/homophobic shit. I fully support their right to say whatever about Obama and Black people. I also fully support the rights of others to verbally condemn them for it. Especially when their identities are publicly available.

Seems to me the answer is always to uncover these ideas and challenge them. You don't fight racism, sexism and other forms of discrimination by ignoring the problem. That has never done anything and yet people tell others to do just that.

Public shaming is what these people need. Even if it doesn't change their minds completely, if losing a job or a scholarship because of stupid, hateful comments someone made on a public forum makes that person realize not to make stupid, hateful comments on a public forum, then so be it.

You just want to ignore this and let them get into positions of power and continue the cycle of racism and bigotry? Fuck that. Shame them. This is not the same as people being stupid. You can grow out of being stupid, people can understand that youth and stupidity can go hand in hand.
What is being displayed here are deeply held beliefs, a belief that minorities are subhuman. That it's ok to call for the death of a black president. It's worse because social media amplifies this effect. One racist doesn't make a huge impact, but because its easier for these people to find others who hold the same beliefs their behavior escalates.
Racist behavior should never be tolerated, there should be real consequences for those who would engage in dehumanizing another person.

Talking about this stuff and highlighting it is exactly what the Civil Rights Movement was about and yet you're talking about just keeping quiet.
Racism is harmful.
Progress is not guaranteed. It is not innate to our species, we had to work for it, fight for it, and in many cases die for it. Many of these people grew up in an environment that fostered bad ideas and hate of the 'other'. This website is a warm stove, reminding people that when they put their hand on it, they may burnt. Ignoring a problem NEVER makes the problem go away, and shame on you for peddling such a mentality.
