Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo |OT| :Q

Totally not happening. But I'm mad that 1.11 didn't have Japanese subtitles but then 2.22 did. I can't stand such discrepancies!

I know, but I can hope ;). Hopefully the HK release of 3.0 won't be too far behind the Japanese release (though I don't remember how long it took for 2.22).

I did just watch 2.22 again (HK version) and forgot just how sketchy those subs were. But they did the job. Still visually amazing on BD.

Oh man that six minutes. Incredible looking action.

The only line I got from it was
Spacepirate Asuka saying "Baka Shinji"
. Things never change.

Can't wait for some explanation of just what's going on.

I can't believe they actually went full CG with the mecha action. Fucking disgusting. It's like watching an old friend get brutally murdered right before your eyes. ;_;

I don't mind.

Only the original movies used new animations for the mecha, the series recycled alot.

I don't get the hate for CG when is non human. A CG mecha is not that bad if done right.

That makes by definition the JRA spot cooler, ain't it right? But at least we know from the teasers and such that some scenes won't feature 3D CGI models for the EVAs, like one scene already spotted for the EVA:08α.

It's going to be hard enough for me to wait for an English subbed BD release of this. For 2.22 I got the Hong Kong release, but I'm hoping that just maybe the Japanese release will be English subbed this time.

Oh right :(, I forgot it takes even longer to come over here. Hopefully the final movie won't be too long after like the original plan...

I have to wait until after work in like 9~10 more hours to watch it :(. Though I'm half wondering if I should hold off and save myself the torture.

I like the CG in the Rebuild movies. They have a really smooth look, and there's a ton of CG in all animation these days anyway. No point getting mad at it. What bothers me about the 3.0 opening is how bad the storyboarding seems to be. For a big opening action set piece, that sure was confusing and odd.

There are so many quick cuts, random shit moving all over the screen, close-ups of pilot reactions in the cockpit when it's not even clear what is happening, and then an elaborate tracking shot with zero context, followed by tons of explosions.
Really... poorly directed there. 2.0's opening action scene had some of the same problems, but on a whole it was executed in a much more cohesive and exciting way.

Oh well, I'm sure the rest of the film will be much better. I loved all the Rebuild movies, so this would have to be really bad for me to dislike it. I hope it opens here locally by March next year. >_<

haha I shuffled off to an empty spot at the office and watched it. I don't mind torturing myself with the wait, chances are I'll read all the spoilers too, Eva is a thing that I just can't wait for.

I actually thought the CG in the first two movies was relatively well done as well. As long as that's the case I don't mind it. The cheap CG in TV anime is what really bothers me the most.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, why'd I watch that preview. Now the wait is going to hurt so much more now. I really like the CG and how it flows. I just want more now. More!

Agreed, I'm really picky on CG on anime movies, and generally don't like it. But 90% of the CG on 2.22 was done really well

It doesn't bothers me too much the use of CGI models, for me it happens the same with the spastic character animation that was present on the previous Rebuild of Evangelion movies (and is apparent here as well); I would prefer they tone it down and present some more "weight" depending on the situation, but I also understand why they do it... because they can! They like to show it off that way without restraints.

Another thing would be comparing this with related works from the franchise like EoE... and try to find a common point, that is the painful (for some) thing to do. But that is in the past, and so different from now it isn't really worth to contrast.

No chance of that happening here :(. Oh well. Then go actually start reading the manga (I have up to volume 8) to pass some of the time and distract myself from seeking out spoilers, because I know I'll want to.

The CG on the 6 min preview wasn't that bad, miles better than the openning of the second movie. Hopefully, and like the previous movie, it improves on the following fights.

The action was hard to follow though

It's humanely impossible to wait like a year to finally be able to see it in good conditions. As usual I'll be spoiled to death before I even watch it.

If only there was an international release, aahh....

More CG Eva battles? That's disappointing. They still haven't beaten the Asuka Vs Production Evas fight in EoE yet, and part of the reason that's so good is because of the godly animation that CG just can't match.

Like most things Eva, all that clip did was raise questions for me.
I guess it might help to know what they're saying.

What I mean is, it's obvious it's not a remake but more of a continuation after End of Eva. At least that's how I see it.

This is going to be the most drawn out speculation in anime history. It started in 2007 with the first movie, and it's probably not going to be proven either way until the final movie... or maybe it'll be left ambiguous even after the final movie ends. :)

I know Eva is the most pandering series probably in existence, but I still can't believe they gave Asuka an eye patch.

Or created Mari.

It's really fucking impressive that Utada comes out of retirement to do a brand new single for Eva 3.0, and no one finds out until the midnight opening for the movie. Now that's secrecy! :D

I hope she does the same for KH3, if it ever comes out

Not knowing a too much about how these movies fall together, I'd ask: are they all based off of the original 26 [?] episodes? I like Evangelion, even if there is too much whining -it is an epic anime. I browsed the wiki but couldn't really tell if there are new storylines, continuations of the "original" (being US and not anime/manga savvy the 26 episodes are what I saw first) story. Death and Rebirth was like a remix and I don't remeber if I saw 2.0

So, are 3.0 and 4.0 elaborations and retellings, or something new entirely? I assume there is much more lore than what I have been exposed to. I will check this out when it hits the US either way.
