Can't agree with you fellas. I sure as hell don't miss waiting out for hours in cold ass November. I'll take the preorder and peace of mind any day.

Giant Bomb sounds kind of cynical and down on the system since it was announced. I like them, but don't know how much I'll watch of them cover it.
I find Giant Bimb's typical view of Nintendo doesn't really jive with my own and indeed find them to be cynical. not to say that they don't regularly have some salient criticisms, but the general tone of their Nintendo discussions is typically depressing.

Hopefully their Wii U coverage is entertaining, like that Nintendoland video, rather than depressing like whenever they seem to discuss Nintendo on the bombcast.

I'm not really seeing the crowds or excitement this time as I did for previous systems. I don't know if it's because of the economy or because Wii U isn't exciting people the same way the Wii/360/ps3 did. I miss the crowds, riots, hype, etc.

It's not a mind blowing system launch, for a number of reasons--one being the PC is SO MUCH MORE powerful than any of the consoles that its hard to get excited. Based on what we've heard about the other upcoming consoles, I wouldn't be surprised if their launches aren't also a bit muted.

I am personally really excited about the launch only because I love dem SHINY BAUBLES. Seriously I love me a good launch hardware and it's been six long years. If there are a few good games that's a bonus.

It's because the only "leap forward" Wii U presents in comparison to the earlier generation is a blend between physical and touch screen controls in synergy with a secondary minigame/inventory screen.

Maybe. But there's a lot more devices to steal attention away from game consoles today.

That, and Nintendo didn't erect an expensive circus to hype Wii U to heaven and beyond. (I mean, look at what Microsoft did for Kinect, which is merely a peripheral.)

I think Sony and Microsoft will go out of their way (and their pockets) to hype their consoles and we may see downright apocalyptic marketing. ("Xbox 720 - buy it or you'll literally die.") But I'll be very interested to see if the public in general will react to new dedicated game consoles in the way that many expect due to historical precedent. Not so sure it's about graphic power any more. The people who have to have it seem to have moved on to PCs already... these days the thing people line up for like a religious event are Apple products.

Having a chair indoors talking to some people is nice right now.

What would I be doing otherwise? Master bating? Watching tv? Looking at neogaf on my phone?

I was on a date last night.

I think there is a psychological thing going on where the more effort you put towards the system, the more you enjoy it.

Definetly. I got a GS pre-order waiting for me and yet I'm still gonna go to Wal-Mart at midnight to see if they got any. I don't really care about waiting the extra time to play it's more the 'thrill of the hunt.' There is the reason that if I get two one could go to my brother, but truthfully I'm only going for myself. Because I have a backup I'm not waiting in-line forever so I'm not taking this super serious. I'll likely show up around 11 and see what's up, but what you said is right -- there is something going on that maks the thought of getting a system with no adversity a little less exciting, though nice in its own way.

Not to mention that in 2006 I was not a father. Waiting in line is not really a feasible thing I am able to do these days.

The shitty gamestop I ordered from decided to open at regular time instead of their usual early 9am Nintendo opening. 11am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like half the day gone!

I enjoyed waiting in line 10 hours for Wii. Played some DS with random people. Gave me a story to tell. Good times... But I don't have any desire to do it again:)

Outside of Nintendo World is there anywhere people are actually lining up for Wii U, or going to line up well before the store opens? I too miss the pictures of lines:)

I'm the same, have to have the shiny new thing. I'll feel like I have to have the next Xbox and PlayStation when they come out, as well. The fact that it's been 6 years since I bought a console makes me auto hyped for this, add in Mario and the thought of future HD Nintendo games and I'm sold.

I'm on line at the Nintendo World Store. The line is wrapping around the block. They gave people who want the deluxe set wristbands and a checklist of what games we want to buy. Looks like I got lucky. 4 more hours, can't wait!

"They have pushed away all of the old methods that have been established before," Haveri told me. "Simply put they've told us that there are no basic payments for each patch (which were pretty high on most platforms) and that we can update our game almost as much as we want. For indie developers this is huge."

"That's what we love about the new eShop," said Haveri. "We have the power to price our products as we please, with just some basic guidelines from the big guys. The step to this is purely from Nintendos's side and they clearly see that [their] previous installments have not been up to par. We can set our own pricing and actually continuing on that by setting our own sales whenever we want. It is very close to what Apple and Steam are doing at the moment, and very indie friendly."

Haveri does expect Nintendo to be a bit more in line with Microsoft and Sony when it comes to verifying and approving patches and added content. "We expect it to be longer than what Steam has, but still very competitive compared to the current console standards." Haveri noted that while Trine 2's DLC content is included with the Wii U version of the game, Nintendo has told the developer it has the same philosophy for added content as it does patches - it's free.

Haveri also noted Miiverse is something Frozenbyte definitely has its eye on, not just in terms of letting Miis run around and interact, but creating a social avenue that might allow developers to more directly communicate with fans. It's something that's a bit unprecedented in gaming, but is an experiment that might well be worth a developer's time.

Though the 3DS version was certainly improved over previous iterations, Wii U will have a larger shopping environment, allowing for more promotion and discovery. "Now we can actually just upload videos about our game after the launch and still have the players come back and have a conversation about it. This makes it possible for everyone to continue that mutual relationship a lot further, rather than having it stop at the transaction."

do you know if they are handing out deluxe versions still? if so ill head over there

This was me at the Wii launch, and I was much more excited for that console thanks to Twilight Princess.

Haven't heard any word about whether they're out of the deluxe set. I know that store employees are asking people what system they want and that the majority of people want the deluxe set.

It's a ridiculous constraint. Who dreamt up the concept of charging exorbitantly? Microsoft?

Yes, but it makes perfect sense to me, for the time. When the XBox was launched, Microsoft did not want it being seen as a PC, and that carried over somewhat to the 360. Thus, they didn't want buggy games released requiring patches. So what they did was implement a policy where you get one patch for free, but after that it costs $10,000. This way developers will be more apt to release bug-free games, so they don't have to waste their one free patch on day-one bugs that could have been avoided. DLC wasn't a big thing when the policy was thought up.

went to my local Toys R Us earlier, told me they had sold all their units through pre-order. May go check out the 24/7 Walmart near me to see if they have one. Living in South Florida I highly doubt it.

Is there a list somewhere of Wii U games that can be played with the Gamepad Pro ?

I also take it that no Wii games will support that controller...

Funny that all the AAA games these days need multiple patches just to be playable.

One person at my local Walmart.

thank for the info, ill head over there at like 10, hopefully they still have deluxe left by then

Nintendo hasn't really hyped it up themselves, and I guess they really don't have to with the preorders selling out for launch.

You would have seen this advertised all over the place if it were a MS console. It'll be fun to see the next xbox launch.

So my receiver doesn't have hdmi inputs... would I be better of just using the optical out on my TV for surround or would the AV out on the U with the Wii cables plugged into the receiver giver better sound? It's a 2009 Samsung 720p plasma btw, I know it doesn't passthru digital or anything, just not sure if the red and white audio cables would be best.

In your case, use the optical.

In neither case will you get 5.1. Just stereo both ways. But a digital cable > an analog cable.

Download Done! Ugh...update time. Of course.

So the Wii U's system menu does display Full 1080p right? Also, the dev news where pricing can be set, patches and updates are free is huge news!

Local walmart received a total of 18 systems. 10 were already pre-ordered and 8 are up for grabs. No one standing in line either...guess I will be #1.

So it turns out that my GameStop also doesn't open until 11AM. I'm a bit peeved. Looks like I'll be sedating myself later tonight so that I'm forced to sleep a few hours before picking-up my U. Either that, or the livestreams tonight will keep me up and frustrated, with the gaming equivalent of blue-balls.

But, in the same line of thought as Tadale, nothing can compare to a Nintendo console launch concurrent with a new Zelda game release.

I hope we get Zelda news at E3. It's been too damn long since my last Nintendo vacation.

The competition from iOS is probably the main reason it has become a completely untenable policy. Whatever you think about the content on smartphones, the flexibility it gives developers is great.

I'm surprised my GS is opening at 9, they said to me last week that they were opening at 10am regular. Just got lucky, I guess, but it's no midnight launch. :/

All I see are a bunch of people who DIDN'T pre-order a Wii U who are going to get one, while I'm here WITH a pre-order and NOT getting one.

FUCK.

I read your situation from a few pages back. Fuck, that really sucks. If they called me telling me something like that I would have thrown a tantrum of profanity the likes of which the world has never seen before. Well, probably not, but I would be extremely pissed. As a customer that is downright insulting. Pisses me off just thinking about it.

Hope ya find one!
