I find Giant Bimb's typical view of Nintendo doesn't really jive with my own and indeed find them to be cynical. not to say that they don't regularly have some salient criticisms, but the general tone of their Nintendo discussions is typically depressing.Giant Bomb sounds kind of cynical and down on the system since it was announced. I like them, but don't know how much I'll watch of them cover it.
I'm not really seeing the crowds or excitement this time as I did for previous systems. I don't know if it's because of the economy or because Wii U isn't exciting people the same way the Wii/360/ps3 did. I miss the crowds, riots, hype, etc.
It's because the only "leap forward" Wii U presents in comparison to the earlier generation is a blend between physical and touch screen controls in synergy with a secondary minigame/inventory screen.
I think there is a psychological thing going on where the more effort you put towards the system, the more you enjoy it.
Can't agree with you fellas. I sure as hell don't miss waiting out for hours in cold ass November. I'll take the preorder and peace of mind any day.
I am personally really excited about the launch only because I love dem SHINY BAUBLES. Seriously I love me a good launch hardware and it's been six long years. If there are a few good games that's a bonus.
Guys, read this while watching the update
'Wii U's eShop operates much like Apple's Appstore. Developers set their prices. More importantly, they also determine when they have sales.'

"They have pushed away all of the old methods that have been established before," Haveri told me. "Simply put they've told us that there are no basic payments for each patch (which were pretty high on most platforms) and that we can update our game almost as much as we want. For indie developers this is huge."
"That's what we love about the new eShop," said Haveri. "We have the power to price our products as we please, with just some basic guidelines from the big guys. The step to this is purely from Nintendos's side and they clearly see that [their] previous installments have not been up to par. We can set our own pricing and actually continuing on that by setting our own sales whenever we want. It is very close to what Apple and Steam are doing at the moment, and very indie friendly."
Haveri does expect Nintendo to be a bit more in line with Microsoft and Sony when it comes to verifying and approving patches and added content. "We expect it to be longer than what Steam has, but still very competitive compared to the current console standards." Haveri noted that while Trine 2's DLC content is included with the Wii U version of the game, Nintendo has told the developer it has the same philosophy for added content as it does patches - it's free.
Haveri also noted Miiverse is something Frozenbyte definitely has its eye on, not just in terms of letting Miis run around and interact, but creating a social avenue that might allow developers to more directly communicate with fans. It's something that's a bit unprecedented in gaming, but is an experiment that might well be worth a developer's time.
.Though the 3DS version was certainly improved over previous iterations, Wii U will have a larger shopping environment, allowing for more promotion and discovery. "Now we can actually just upload videos about our game after the launch and still have the players come back and have a conversation about it. This makes it possible for everyone to continue that mutual relationship a lot further, rather than having it stop at the transaction."
Wow, no pricing for patches and updates. That is HUGE.
I'm on line at the Nintendo World Store. The line is wrapping around the block. They gave people who want the deluxe set wristbands and a checklist of what games we want to buy. Looks like I got lucky. 4 more hours, can't wait!

I mean we did have a thread about the shape of the discs.....Almost warrants its own thread.
I'd say yes, then Sony followed suit because of free online. I could be wrong. It's a ridiculous constraint. Who dreamt up the concept of charging exorbitantly? Microsoft?
The shitty gamestop I ordered from decided to open at regular time instead of their usual early 9am Nintendo opening. 11am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like half the day gone!
do you know if they are handing out deluxe versions still? if so ill head over there

Yes, but it makes perfect sense to me, for the time. When the XBox was launched, Microsoft did not want it being seen as a PC, and that carried over somewhat to the 360. Thus, they didn't want buggy games released requiring patches. So what they did was implement a policy where you get one patch for free, but after that it costs $10,000. This way developers will be more apt to release bug-free games, so they don't have to waste their one free patch on day-one bugs that could have been avoided. DLC wasn't a big thing when the policy was thought up.
I enjoyed waiting in line 10 hours for Wii. Played some DS with random people. Gave me a story to tell. Good times... But I don't have any desire to do it again
Outside of Nintendo World is there anywhere people are actually lining up for Wii U, or going to line up well before the store opens? I too miss the pictures of lines![]()
Haven't heard any word about whether they're out of the deluxe set. I know that store employees are asking people what system they want and that the majority of people want the deluxe set.

In your case, use the optical. So my receiver doesn't have hdmi inputs... would I be better of just using the optical out on my TV for surround or would the AV out on the U with the Wii cables plugged into the receiver giver better sound? It's a 2009 Samsung 720p plasma btw, I know it doesn't passthru digital or anything, just not sure if the red and white audio cables would be best.
In your case, use the optical.
In neither case will you get 5.1. Just stereo both ways. But a digital cable > an analog cable.
@NintendoAmerica said:Check out the line outside the Nintendo World store in NY for the launch of Wii U WOW!
Is Triforce still the first person?
Do it son. I'm number 2 out of 3 for the 4 up for grabs.Local walmart received a total of 18 systems. 10 were already pre-ordered and 8 are up for grabs. No one standing in line either...guess I will be #1.
Funny that all the AAA games these days need multiple patches just to be playable.
What happened? All I see are a bunch of people who DIDN'T pre-order a Wii U who are going to get one, while I'm here WITH a pre-order and NOT getting one.
FUCK.
