The latest 1up podcast is about Evangelion for some reason. They claim Final Fantasy 7 was heavily inspired by Evangelion. I've never heard that before.

I got 99 problems, but a GIANT REI HEAD ain't o--... oh yeah, about that...
Haha, good call.

But really, the ordinary troubles problems of being human go on no matter what. Isn't that a big part of what Evangelion was saying?

There's no way we get it in 2013. It'll probably be mid to late 2013 before it's even released in Japan and then it'll take Funimation close to another year to release the English version.

The 2.22 DVD/Blu-ray with the English dub came out in April, and the movie was in theatres with subs in January. I remember there was a long gap between seeing it theater with subs before the English version came out.

Maybe because this one was so successful in JP they'll do it faster?

It's a remake and a sequel and a prequel all at the same time, and the final film is a tangled mess of editing like Cloud Atlas.

I guess you could claim that the WEAPONS are comparable to the Angels, that Sephiroth and JENOVA are Kaworu and Lilith, Hojo is Gendo, and the Life-Stream is kinda like the LCL stuff?

Just a random attempt there.

No I've actually heard that before as well, I can't seem to place it though. And man... This is gonna be a long, long wait for me. I just hope that I've forgotten all of the spoilers I've read by the time it comes out

Looks like Final may have been delayed. They updated the site for it with the new title and took off the 2013 date that it used to have.

Perhaps we'll be able to see right into Anno's heart and know that not even he knows what the hell is going to happen.

Well, that was obvious. I remember cruel jabs at Gainax even back before 1.0 that at their pace FINAL will be split from 3.0 and released in 2015.

Well won't you look at that.

2014, the latter half of 4.0 will be a mix of live action and claymation and Sadamoto will finish the manga at the same time.

Because
all of this has happened before!!!
And will happen again.

Man, I miss BSG.

Beaten

It's the musical symbol for repeat.
Interesting. I went to the Wiki article on music notes to see some of the others.

However, I noticed a possible "pun" with the End and Repeat signs, since the title uses a colon (used by the Repeat sign). So it can mean Final and Repeat.

Repeat signs
Enclose a passage that is to be played more than once. If there is no left repeat sign, the right repeat sign sends the performer back to the start of the piece or the nearest double bar.

Hahaha. I ain't even mad.

2015! Maybe Sadamoyo will finish the manga too!

Volume 13 just came out this month. Only one more left I believe (don't spoil volume 13 as I haven't found it yet in a store and waiting to find something else I want to order online so I get free shipping)

SHOCKING NEWS! :D

1.0 -> 2.0 was 2 years...

2.0 -> 3.0 was 3 years...

3.0 -> Final should only be 4 years going by that pattern!

2016 here we come!!!!

Well 1.0 -> 2.0 was more like 1 year 9 months while 2.0 -> 3.0 is 3 years 5 months. In any case. still think 2015 for FINAL, at the latest.

That depends, will Sadamoto need to take time off to work on the film again?

In any case, looking at the text "logo" for the final film, I'm becoming more and more convinced that they intended it to mean "repeat" as much as they did "end," if not more. I'll explain when I finish my dinner.

EDIT: OK, so as I was saying, they spent a lot of effort and marketing making these films a departure from the old, discarding a lot of things that defined the old TV shows and films, including making the characters super stretched vertically, changing the "エ" and "オ" to the archaic "ヱ" and "ヲ" and discarding "新世紀" from the title:

Contrast that to the title for the next movie:
E6WeE.png

They obviously want to evoke the Evangelion of old for FINAL despite their efforts to differentiate in the first three films. The spelling of Evangelion is the same as before, returning to more normal character proportions (though End of Eva did use slightly stretched characters), and removing the "新" and replacing it at the front of the title.

But all that side, what caught my attention was the supposed colon in that title. It doesn't look like the colon used in the title for the first three films at all, even accounting for the different character proportions.

If you stretch the title so it matches that of the previous ones, you get this:
eva40.png

Compared to:
eva30.png

Spacing aside, the font is pretty much identical but what is supposedly the colon is definitely not the same character as used in the previous titles. It seems like it was intentionally designed to be (or look like) a "repeat" symbol rather than a colon followed by an "end" symbol. On the other hand, the dot separating "シン" and "エヴァ..." does match the colon in the previous titles.

I'm probably overanalysing it, but eh.

Yeah, probably. :p

You did point out something I had missed. They set back the characters from wo to o and we to e. Additionally, with the removal of the "Shin" from the subtitle, it does seem intentionally to read as New Evangelion* Movie:|| (Redo or End).

*Original TV katakana spelling.

Will both worlds collide.
