Returned my second pre-order today.
Here in the Kansas City area, almost every store has some standard bundles, and finding a Deluxe isn't too terribly difficult (just about anyone could find one in a few hours if they hit a couple different cities).
I love my launch unit; and Nintendo has a very special place in my heart. But the WiiU had a terrible reveal two E3s ago, it's re-reveal was almost just as lackluster, and a good portion of the population either doesn't know it exists, or thinks it's a Wii add-on. It's the 3DS all over again; surprised Nintendo didn't learn their lesson.
No doubt, it will turn around and be a success in the end - not Wii levels, but it will have healthy sales, especially once the price comes down, more games are out, and consumers realize what it is.
But even as a big Nintendo fan - it's a hard system to justify purchasing unless you *know* you're going to get one eventually, anyway. For $350 + $50 for a game, you get a collection of mini-games (which, granted, are a blast) and hardware that's - at least on first blush - not that much better than the competition. And the only super exciting launch title is NSMBU - which is good, but more of the same and hardly a system seller considering the 3DS version just launched a few months ago and it's extremely similar to the Wii version. For ~$200 less, you can get an Xbox 360 or PS3, with more memory, DVD and/or Blu-Ray movie support, free games, a much bigger library of games, and a significantly more robust online infrastructure.
So yeah... again... I love mine; and I know I'll love it going forward. We'll get a Zelda and 3D Mario and some other 1st party goodness, and I'm sure they'll be some of the best games ever released. But for those thinking Nintendo doesn't have a battle ahead of them... well, they're in denial.

EDIT: As for why I'm returning it - I figure I'd be lucky to snag $500 on eBay for the unit. That's absolutely best case scenario at this point, it seems. $25 to ship. $40 in fees. The unit was $380 after tax. That's about $55 in profit at max - more likely less. My time is worth more than that, and I don't want to deal with the hurdles of a potential buyer claim or PayPal issues. I'd rather just get my $380 back now.
