This is where I complain that I haven't even heard them talk about dota 2 once. Brad would fall down that rabbit hole HARD.

The only one at fault here is you. Brad has talked about Dota 2 plenty, in that he wants to play it. I'm guessing he's waiting on the tutorial stuff, like myself.

I didn't even realize this was coming out on anything besides PC.
They basically said that in its, current Beta state, Dota 2 is too intimidating and they're looking forward to the features that are meant to ease new players into the game. I'm in the same boat. The community's reputation and the trial by fire learning process is not something I'm interested in dealing with.
Your wording might be off here, but you know this is console exclusive? There is no PC version.
Wow, I had no idea. Admittedly I haven't followed the development of the game at all, I just assumed when it was announced that it was a PC game.

In my opinion the community has gotten better over the last year or so. And I can't imagine any tutorial process valve can come up with that still doesn't just throw you into swim at the end of the day. If you're really interested I would honestly say that you really should just force yourself through the baptism to get through the other side now.

Or wait for the tutorial features to be released and start playing once there is a large influx of other new players you can generally enjoy yourself playing against. That's my idea, at least.

Charging for a game in this genre on PC is guaranteed failure and with the license and the console versions, free to play doesn't seem like an option.
That's good to hear that the community has been improving. I've seen so many examples of horrible behavior but to be fair, people aren't going to highlight respectable behavior with screenshots and videos.
Dota 2 will probably end up being similar to competitive 1v1 SC2 for me. I love the game but my own nerves get in the way. It's a personal problem, but I put way too much pressure on myself to perform with these types of strategic games and I'm not quite sure why. More action based MP doesn't have the same effect on me.

I didn't even realize this was coming out on anything besides PC. The idea of playing a MOBA on a console seems kind of crazy to me.
Edit: It's been pointed out to me that this is console exclusive.
This looks like shit. :\
Don't worry, when it's out of beta and some of those community features are built in, there will be more excuses made. Don't expect to ever hear much about Dota 2 from anyone currently working at GB.
Nevermind,Nobody linked the Don't Starve Quick Look with Patrick and Vinny (35:46)?
Seriously Giant Bomb, if a game has permadeath, how about you say "This game has permadeath" instead of saying "Well, it's kind of a roguelike, well...it has roguelike elements and it's doing a kind of a Dark Souls kind of thing" every single time.

Where did the term 'roguelike' originate from? Its overuse has started getting on my nerves recently
Even if its valid, it seems like people are straining to crowbar it into their desrciptions![]()
But it is kind of roguelike? It has permadeath, a randomly generated world, and you need to manage your hunger...

There was a game called Rogue that had permadeath and then games that were like it were called "Rogue like" and it just kind of stuck.
Its pretty dumb. Its like if we kept calling all FPS's doom clones.
At least people making DOTA type games went out of their way to move beyond the DOTA name and we got MOBA.

Did GB do a Quick Look on Sonic & All-Stars Transformed?
Rogue-like-like-like-like-like-like...like.
I've caught myself describing a game as a roguelike-like before. We definitely need a name for this genre.
Free play is save scumming.I wonder if they would get blown away if they sat down and thought really hard about arcade games.
And they are not, why...?I've heard Roguelike-like be used to describe stuff like Binding of Isaac or FTL without a hint of irony or sarcasm.
The problem with coming up with a 'genre name' for roguelikes is that roguelike is exactly that. The genre has just not been very mainstream and we've only recently seen a larger interest in the genre and its design aesthetics. The original Rogue came out 32 years ago for God's sake!

In my continued crusade against the absymally poor QL of Baldur's Gate, this guy in the GB comments put it very well:
WHATCan we also start crusades against their abysmally poor QL's of Dark Souls
Dark Souls was entertaining enough. Can we also start crusades against their abysmally poor QL's of Dark Souls, Dragon's Dogma & that retro quick look of Deus Ex?
If you want a worst QL, I nominate Shadow of the Colossus.
