Man of Steel - Official Trailer #2

Clark - "So I should have just let him die?"

Pa Kent - "Maybe."

I take issue with this.
I take issue with supposedly intelligent adults on this forum judging a quickly edited bit from a trailer so succinctly despite being completely devoid of any context, or, you know, FACT as to whether that's exactly like how the conversation takes place.

But then again this is why discussing this kind of stuff is not possible on the internet. Too many people actually LOOK for shit like this to mention or complain about. It's a non-stop leap frog mentality of who can point out the more subtle, near completely imperceptible facet of something as to why it's SUB STANDARD.

It's no wonder people ask in threads like this if people ever enjoy movies anymore. Some of you have so shamelessly bought into your own bullshit.

Fair enough, I agree on things being taken out of context, but then why put that line in if it's just going to be misinterpreted and sound bad. Also, that Maybe line wasn't the most subtle, near completely imperceptible facet of the trailer. Chill, it's just trailer talk.

Man, I think I might be more excited for this than Star Trek.

However, as someone posted about Pacific Rim trailer does come out next, so that could be way different and knock this movie off.

All I know is, this summer is going to be a good one.

Please please please don't make Lois Lane ogle over Clark like Portman's character did to Thor. Set up an intelligent, interesting relationship that makes proper use of both personalities.

Well, they clearly edited it in that way, so...

Doesn't bother me at all though. I find it interesting.

Honestly,

You are my hero.

Watching again and HOLY BLUE AND ORANGE!!!

Time has come that they will take over ENTIRE MOVIES and not only movie posters ?

(Though that probably wouldn't have worked here)

Incredible trailer.

It's going to take a long time to get used to that actor as Zod. No doubt that he's talented (I haven't seen him in much), but he looks way different than I picture Zod.

Why are I and many other people here not misinterpreting it or thinking it sounds bad then?

No, it was put in because, THANKFULLY, they are not sculpting what they are doing around the few on the internet that are going to pick and prod at it for no other reason than they have nothing better to do.

Seriously, you're really telling me you don't see the BLATANTLY intentional ambiguity of the remark? How it might make someone's (you know, someone NORMAL who is simply just watching the trailer instead of trying to dissect it) curiosity peak?

I'm honestly fucking baffled at this complaint by some of you.

These be good days, for sure.

The feeling of true epicness, and weight. Then the montage at the end promising the action.

Finally, this could be a true Superman film.

::APPROVED::

Good job.

that was fast and awesome

Thanks!

I think somehow people are hearing Pa Kent say "YES! In fact, you should've killed them yourself!"

Pa Kent was just positing that perhaps he shouldn't mess with "God's plans" and let the natural course of the world happen as it would. That maybe his power is like playing God.

Any other interpretation is way off base.

Because people's opinions are different. It is true we pick things apart too much, but it's not something unexpected in a trailer discussion thread. I don't know why anyone should be upset over some of the reactions. If it's upsetting, why not just ignore them?

Pleased with this trailer. I don't know why I find Costner as Jonathan somewhat jarring even though that scene shown isn't bad, and hopefully the final product has a better line take from Diane Lane than that.

I can understand the frustration of the serious Dark Knight-esque tone, however. I'm hoping with this as a success, WB/DC can muster up courage down the road to go into Superman's rogues gallery outside of Luthor/Zod as Marvel is doing with Thanos.

Also, I love Lisa Gerrard.

Henry Cavill looks bloody perfect as Superman. He IS Superman. I may be jumping ahead to conclusions but I think it's finally time to let go of Christopher Reeve.

That's how I took it as well.

That looked fucking awesome. Haven't been sure about their choice for Superman, but that trailer sold me on him. Now as long as Snyder doesn't shit up every second of action with slow motion, I think we'll have a winner here.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking too, he's right for the part.

This too. I loved that line.

And just about every casting pick for this movie has been fantastic so far. Cavill looks great, Adams is always great, Shannon, Crowe, Costner... great cast.

Yeah, Dislike. in my opinion Superman shouldn't be gritty, emotional and sad. It should be colorful (Avengers) with massive earth-shattering destruction, because let's face it Superman has always been about DBZ style battles rather than drama.

Why the hell not? Why does everything have to be like Avengers now? You can make a good superhero movie many ways. This is one of the ways. And all we have is a trailer which is trying to re introduce the character of Superman after the disaster of 2006. Of course they will try to mold it differently.

And its just a 2 minute trailer of a 2 hour + movie. Why are people always so ready to assume they know everything about the movie?

This is not going to be Avengers like. It won't be Batman either. Probably somewhere in the middle which is perfect for Superman and an origins story. I doubt that just because it wasn't present in this trailer, there is no humor or fun in the movie.

i know superman hasn't had an origin story in a long time. I'm speaking more generally, I'm a little fatigued with origin stories where we get a fraction of the action just to set up another 8 movies. especially for characters that are pretty well known.

Except it is necessary when the character(s) have been ruined on film. Batman Begins was necessary and so is this. And its all in the execution. Origin stories can be fun if done well. Hell a lot of people think Batman Begins is the best of the three simply because of how well the origins is handled.

Very nice trailer.
I fall in the camp that prefers the new gritty version, especially now that we are done with Batman (at least for the time being).
For people who like it more lighthearted, there will always be the old movies and Smallville (lol). And perhaps the rumoured Justice League movie, too.
I have nothing against more cartoony takes on superheroes, as I really liked The Avengers. But it didn't stick with me as long as, say, the Dark Knight trilogy.
With Marvel's movies, there's enough goofiness for me, DC can stick to the dark stuff. Anyways, hope the new Supes is good!

Exactly! All of the Marvel movies have a similar look and style and whether it works (IM1/Avengers) or doesn't (all of the other movies), they do have that similar less gritty look. Why does Superman have to be the same?

I doubt it will be as dark and gloomy as Batman, but the attempt here is to explore Superman the character. Not just have blow shit up. And even then this movie is promising to deliver on actual villains, not just Lex Luthor recycled for the 100th time.

The scene of Clark in the water, his body posture - it reminded me of this theme that seems to pop up in Superman movies; the Biblical Messiah

I'm not sure if I buy Amy Adams as Lois Lane. She has more of a small town look to her in the trailer. She looks more like Lana Lang.

I like that little shot of her in the trailer. Seems that Lois is stopping some sort of all out war between Superman and the military. I'm honestly sold on the entire main cast.

I don't know, maybe he just cares more about the well being of his son than the well being of someone elses. Not really moral, but also something that would be understandable.

I guess it wouldn't fit with the comic Pa Kent but I wouldn't mind.

Agreed. Perfectly said.

Pa Kent doesn't have all the answers. That quote works just fine.

They have to leave room for moral ambiguity. Morals aside, there's no question about Superman's ability to respond to given situations.
