Wii U Satisfaction Thread

Yup it's been pretty great so far, Miiverse, dual screen gaming and off-TV play is awesome. Nano Assault Neo and Trine 2 are fantastic too. Nintendo Land is a positive surprise too.

Third party ports are a bit of a disappointment though... And the OS and loading is slooow.

But playing the criticized Darksiders 2 to the end still made me a believer in the end, Off-TV play and dual screen gaming almost makes me completely forget about the bad stuff. And going back to PS3/360 will definitely be though now so I'll probably choose the WiiU version when ever possible from now on.

Even at the deepest depths of my despair when the Wii was selling out and the PS3 was sitting unwanted on store shelves, I never once thought of creating a thread like this.

Congrats OP

You've hit rock bottom.

The only way from here is up.

What?

This is exactly right. Juvenile or not, I'm tired of the negative Wii U threads. There's threads discussing hard locks, the "horrible, slow CPU", the OS, sales figures, buyers remorse, lack of the 3rd party efforts, etc., yet there are were no threads where people could really proclaim their satisfaction of owning the console.

Of one thing I am certain: whether or not the Wii U succeeds, nothing GAF has cited as a problem with it (from RAM to slow Settings apps) will have anything substantial to do with that success or failure.

It's very much like the bizarre confusion over the success of Apple products, with a subset of internet dwellers who will continue to proudly hold up the lower specs as if the world would cease buying these things if only they knew the truth. But the truth is that the techie mindset is itself the problem with the industry if anything; look at Sony's problems upon letting the engineers have too much influence over product development.

What discussion does another Wii U circlejerk promote If you want no dissenting opinions than maybe you should join a nintendo fan forum

nothing GAF has cited as a problem

Why do you use this label when you know that GAF is not a single entity, but thousands of users who have vastly different opinions.

I'm unexpectedly happy of my WiiU for a whole different reason than what I bought it for (games). So very happy with Miiverse of all things. Very pleased with it becoming my universal remote for TV and Amazon Video.

True, corrected it should read: "nothing that has quickly risen to a 10-page-thread of hyperbole on this forum" -- which would include nearly every tech discussion thus far.

And you make a parallel error. I've been on Nintendo fan forums that are far more precise and accurate in their complaints, because the system-war nonsense is downplayed and nearly everyone posting actually owns the device, knows its flaws firsthand. Less drive-by commentary by those for whom the system was never likely to be of interest in the first place.

I actually really like not having to turn on the TV to use a lot of the features. If I want to check out Miiverse posts or download a demo or update a game that I've read just got a patch, I can just do everything from the controller really easily. One of my favorite aspects.

I'd agree that the smaller tech issues only matter to enthusiasts, but you seem to be ignoring the lack of 3rd party support and barren release schedule complaints. These could definitely hurt the system

Hell yes! I find myself doing this quite often.

The system feels very well made, the controller is great, and Miiverse is quite awesome. The software so far isn't quite as convincing, though.

Thread approaching crapper territory already.

I personally don't see a problem with a Wii U thread with a positive connotation. If every single negative thing about the Wii U gets a topic, then this can also.

If the mods think that the thread should be locked, then they'll do so. :)

A thread only for positive comments doesn't really contribute anything to a discussion forum. People could just stay in the threads of their platform of choice and bask in the appreciation.

I'd say go find a fan forum if you don't want to hear/discuss the criticisms.

Really happy.

The machine just feels "right", including MiiVerse.

Though still room for improvement with download times, launching speed and system software quirks.

No no. I didn't mean that there should be threads with only positive comments. What I'm saying is that I don't mind threads with a positive connotation.

For instance: this is a Wii U satisfaction thread. That has a positive ring to it, however, a person can be disappointed in some things about a product he/she has bought, but would still overall be satisfied with said product.

The Wii U has problems. A lot actually, but this thread (I believe) is where you can come and say, "I'm pretty bummed about this and that, but you know what? I also like it because of this that, so I'd say that I'm pretty satisfied with it so far." :)

I'm pretty happy with it. Really like ZombiU, very much enjoying TTT2Wii U edition and Sonic racing (even though they are ports the added stuff in TTT is pretty awesome and Sonic is also super cool).
Alos loving Netflix on this thing. Off TV play for videos means I can easily watch Archer in the mornings in bed. Only thing that'll make it even better is if I could set the DNS settings so I can get NA Netflix like on my 360.

Miiverse is also super cool. Love seeing the drawings people post and reading about their experiences.

WiiU has amazing potential. I already hadva positive vibe from it before release but I am absolutely blown away after experiencing it first hand. I think it will be my primary gaming device the coming five to six years.

Ah ok I misunderstood. Agreed we could use some more positive Wii U threads around here lol

I give my experience so far a solid Meh out of Whatever. It's alright. I like Scribblenauts and Little Inferno a lot. It's cool that you can check gamefaqs or youtube while playing a game if you want/need to. The OS is garbage though and Nintendo's server speeds are horrible. Pretty indifferent to Miiverse, cool concept but way too many "I love this game" posts

Why do people care that this is a thread? Seriously? You're upset that a thread was made on an Internet forum? Get real.

Besides, I like seeing what other people think of the wii u, negative and positive. Interesting to see what some people like and what others like.

I enjoy mine, but it isn't blowing me away. Mario U and Nano Assault Neo are the highlights for me so far. I've probably spent half my time in Mario drawing will crappy doodles for Miiverse.

Liking far more than I expected: Miiverse, off-TV play. I hope that instead of trying to find "way to take advantage of the unique hardware" devs will just implement more off-TV play.

Playing ZombiU right now, doing a second Normal playthrough to warm up for Survival.

I like it I played about 4 hours straight zombiu tonight iv played ac3 everyday this week while sitting on the sofa with the mrs. Can't wait to get mario I like it.

ha, I was waiting for this thread to pop up. Anyways, yay? I am definitely enjoying my WiiU. I wish I had more money though.

Slightly off topic, but I don't understand why people expect to be "satisfied" by a purchase. Is that really what satisfies you in life? Buying things?

Maybe it's playing video games? I don't get it. It's just entertainment. I don't see how it could ever truly satisfy me.

Please enlighten.

That is a really simplistic and weird way to look at it. Like any material object it is what it is used for and the experiences around it.

With my 40-50 hour work week and a working wife with a toddler and another one on the way, I am happy with how the Wii U and Nintendo games in general fit my life style. The off-TV gamepad in particular is great for me. Despite being crazy busy since launch I'm over half way done with Assassin's Creed 3 and the gamepad play is a big reason why.

I do have a nagging feeling of disappointment when I think about how the next gen machines from Sony and Microsoft are going to be so much more powerful that it's looking like 3rd party multi-plats won't make it to the Wii U. I would have personally preferred that Nintendo forgot about backwards compatibility and instead would have gone for the beefiest CPU that would have fit within their budget.

Very satisfied with:

  • Gamepad
  • Miiverse
  • Off-TV play (best feature)
  • Decent launch selection even if mostly ports. I'm not a Day One buyer for most games so this plus retail sales is okay.
  • Internet browser (actually quite good, love the curtain)
  • NSMB U

why would you buy something if it didn't satisfy you in any way?

no one is saying that buying the wii u is their only satisfaction in life. Just that sometimes you buy something, and it satisfies you, or it is not what you had expected and you are not satisfied with the product.

I dont even know why I am actually even answering this...

Love Nintendo, love my Wii U and can't wait for Pikmin 3!

Games I have so far:

Nintendo Land
Zombi U
Trine 2
Nano Assault Neo
Little Inferno
New Super Mario Bros U

Didn't really like the Rayman Legends demo btw, sadly. Won't get that one.

There are good things and bad things about the Wii U. Overall I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I almost let the negativity get to me and even canceled my pre-order the day before release, but now that I have one I'm happy I do. I've been having a blast.

I dig on the OS functionality, the style of it all, the controller and it's ergonomics and hope it has a good little future as a nice sandbox for Nintendo games.

Need software before I'd say I'm satisfied, though, but it's a system launch and they're rarely very pleasing. I do wish for a few more unique/exclusive titles, though. It is a little disappointing in that regard.

I'm satisfied. It's fun roaming the house with it, especially when the wife wants to watch something else. It's actually taken over my iPad as the general net browser at my place. And MiiVerse is really awesome to browse and post on.

Posted from my WiiU.

As I've expected it's done the same for me as far as growing in the lounge. It doesn't quite reach my bedroom (Which is a shame, it's not that far away) where it would just be absolutely killer because I could game there as well.

I'm really enjoying the Wii U and the GamePad is awesome from a general lifestyle perspective. I use it as the TV remote, off tv play when the wife wants to watch something and my browser.

Even though my Wii U died and I had to send it back to Nintendo to get fixed. Makes me appreciate it now that I have it back! Just need more games on it.

So far I'm really enjoying the system. I wasn't completely sold on the screen in a controller at first but the more I use the more intrigued I am by it. I am loving Miiverse and find it crazy impressive. It's another aspect of the system that I kind of didn't care about until I spent some time with it.

That's not to say there aren't flaws. They definitely need to do something about the OS speed, and IMHO the amount of ram the OS uses. I hope with some future updates we'll see a good chunk freed up, and the load times cut big time. While I have a receiver that has HDMI inputs, I concur that it should have had optical out, and DD/DTS support. They need to fix the gamma issues as well. I would imagine that's something they can fix with a firmware update.

I think the system has a lot of potential though, and I hope we see more of it reached, compared to the Wii. I really hope 3rd parties don't make the same mistakes as last gen. They need to be there from day one to build an audience for their titles. I really want to see what new kinds of gameplay devs can come up with. I really thought it was a shame that so few studios really tried new things on the Wii. I was really hoping after Red Steel 2, Lucas Arts would take what they did and make an awesome Star Wars game with it, but they did not. I hope things like that don't happen this time. There needs to be more experimentation, more building on what others had done, and that kind of stuff this time around.

besides the Youtube debacle I have to say I'm really, really enjoying the system. First of all, the Gamepad is brilliant. Ergonomic, good looking, weight is perfectly balanced, games look good on the little screen. It's a console 2.0, I'm always turning it on to check friends activity, internet, eshop etc. The OS is damn good, albeit slow (my only gripe) but tolerable..people are way overblowing the issue.
Miiverse is a great idea, something that truly gives you a feeling of community and interactivity and it's SO addictive, NNIDs are immensely better than the old friend codes, browser is really fast, dwonload&installation times are reasonable and the eShop is fast and easy to navigate (although I would like some kind of notification whenever there's new stuff available) and NSMBU is just a superb game

for now, I'm really satisfied
