DmC Review Thread (Release Date - 1/15/13) Embargo is over!

boy some of you are going to be real mad at (minor spoilers)
the scene where a white mop head lands on nu-Dante's head to give him classic Dante hair, he looks at himself in a mirror, and makes fun of it
We saw it but I notice you are trying to open up the flood gates in other threads and I salute you. I'm not bothered by it to be honest. It was just a fun little jab at the fans who hate them and probably won't see it any way, but if they do...lol

Oh, I see it now. I spotted it on another forum and thought there would be waaaayyy more uproar about it.

I'm a fan of Kazuma Kiryu, but I wouldn't get bent out of shape if they changed how he looked. I have the games with the old him in it. I'll always have those.

God you are a stronger person than I am - that would be atrocious. Assuming "hair color change" means as drastic a change as DmC Dante is, then it would be terrible.

Because no one would just think that the fans are mad about just hair color right?

please?

Every week there's something new. Nothing like upsetting your fans and then rubbing it in, am I right?

I guess I just don't get that attached to characters in games. Especially ones like DMC where gameplay tends to be more important than how people look(which is a whole other argument when it comes to this.)

Like Mario could be wearing flannel pajamas in Galaxy 3 and have no mustache, and that would be fine with me.

Fine by you probably but I would love to see the Nintendo fans backlash over it. It would make the backlash over DmC Dante look tame in comparison.

Gameplay is top priority, but the aesthetics are important in creative an universe that embodies the characters.

I do. Interesting characters are more important than plot, in my opinion.

But why screw around with what works, just to do it? Especially when it doesn't improve on the original? I don't see the point, really.

Actually got a chuckle out of me the first time i saw it.

Hard to resist, huh?

Haha yea. Especially cause I was drinkin tonight so I instinctively jumped into it...

Dammit... alrighttt I'll try again

Except it's supposed to maintain the foundation of the franchise in it. It's been mentioned before, any recent reboots of Batman, Bond, Spiderman, etc., all retains signature designs of the characters, because it is understood the importance of the design

What, that is not the case at all. There are tons of reboots that don't copy the exact outfit/style of the main character, especially when this is a younger version of the character (before he had white hair...). Oh and Dante is no where near as iconic as Batman, Spiderman ect and Bond has blonde hair now...

Dammit, you make it so hard to leave these threads!

Because it's an alternate take on it, not DMC5. You guys understand this right?

And for some reason when it comes to Dante the design can all be thrown out of the window

I do. Interesting characters are more important than plot, in my opinion.

There's the difference then. I think all of DMC's characters are incredibly shallow and poorly written. I think Dante is popular based off gameplay(Being one of the first sword+guns games) and looks alone.

Out of the 3 listed, 2 went for reverting to the younger, brasher version. In that sense DmC is just following tradition.

you guys better be grateful that he isn't a smoker
anymore

That's a shame. I hate smoking and it perfectly fits the griminess of this reboot. As much I hate on DmC, I've come to appreciate how unabashedly awful it is.

Yea and could even notice that Peter Parker/Bruce Wayne look radically different in each movie. Yet their SIGNATURE style is somewhat similar (spidermans/batmans suit)... same w/ Dante, his normal look is radically different but his outfit (red clothes and white hair) still remains similar.

What I am saying is with the reboots there are obviously updates and changes to the character design, but the core remains the same -you take a look at those characters you would recognize them.

The new Dante, in my opinion, does not reflect that, white hair or not.

Alternate or no, it still sucks.

From what i seen of their new edgier counterparts, hey don't really improve on that aspect too much either.

No because saying something outright sucks before its even out. Such an ignorant stance on any game, especially before being released.

Yeah not like the demo is out and you can play it or anything. Not like there aren't multiple cutscenes on Youtube showing off the characters and dialogue and everything shown is turning some completely off from the game. (including one of the lamest intros to a game i have ever seen.) How dare i not like what i have been seeing/hearing/reading from all this info released.

I think he's complaining about the new character design.

That too...

Itsuno's version of Dante was already way different from Kamiya's so he doesn't give a damn. I hardly consider them the same character myself.

I think he's complaining about the new character design.

Yeah yeah. I should probably just bail from this thread. It's depressing how many people just love to hate on things that change. Having some valid arguments and discussion is one thing, but just saying statements like "Its awesome" or " it sucks" ... yeah. As for the person saying there is plenty of youtube videos, etc. Well then, might as well just start my review for the game now right? I mean... I've played it ..errr Well seen most of it. Good enough.

Hating the changes made isn't the same as hating change. You seem like a sharp enough guy, leave that argument for the simpletons.

More than anything so far, I really wish that wig scene wasn't spoiled. That would have gotten a pretty good lol out of me while playing.

Haruka: I'd like to see you Score 300 points in bowling
Kiryu: FUCK YOU
Haruka: FUCK YOU
Kiryu: FUCK YOOOOOOOUUUUU

sounds fantastic

WoW, we have really gone full circle, have not we?

I understand why someone prefers generic shounen style to generic human being, I guess.
But it is going to be generic either way. It never was something so special that it could only be touched with sacred gloves :P

(Edit: To draw an analogy here, albeit a slightly poor one, Bayonetta is anything but generic. It can still be disliked. I hated her when she was revealed, but her style has grown in me in the playthroughs.)

I wasn't the one who found it, I was just relaying the information.

I will edit out OP but keep the link/translation up in case it goes back up.

Yeah. Judging from what they are saying on twitter it's a matter of NT/Capcom never giving this website a review build to begin with.

Would be nice to see if Bayonetta 2 will make fun of the situation itself.
In these situations, the best response is no response at all. PG will have their definitive word on the issue simply by rivaling or surpassing Bayonetta with Bayonetta 2.

After the madness that was Bayonetta, I don't see anything being off the table for Bayonetta 2.
