Vita PSN Game & Service Thread 2

Thats the thing though, its not necessarily a good platformer. I wish they'd have done more something along the lines of different gameplay styles across different times. I have about 20 levels done now and the levels (despite even having gravity switches, removable blocks and some other stuff) lack the imagination of good jump& run levels. Additionally, some may be pretty nicely tuned around the jumping mechanics, especially in the first world, but the game falls apart with cheap deaths and poor level design in the multi-screen levels.

I mean, you guys are still right. Its only 2$ so its definitely worth that. But not considering the price, its not really a good game. Easily the worst game I have played on Vita so far and not anywhere near the quality of Surge/Velocity or even the proper Vita games.

Pro:
- Low Price
- Quick Platforming fix
- Changing graphics
- They mentioned adding new graphical styles to the game (DLC I guess?)
- 64 levels sounds like a lot atm...

Contra:
- ...but considering how short they are it should be more shorter levels (The longer ones do NOT work in favor of the game).
- Not enough changing other stuff (music, gameplay elements, I would have loved to see different genres too even if that evolves into a minigame collection where each genre only has 8 levels) SO much potential
- Most levels (the multi screen ones especially) are badly designed (Imagination AND challenge wise)
- Dodgy/unprecise hit detection
- Cheap deaths
- No highscore table

Sorry Super Icon!

The more I play the more I agree with you :( Which is unfortunate because I really wanted to like it and support the developers since they're trying to make two native Vita games. But man, honestly it feels like it was created by somebody who loved retro games but didn't know what was so good about them, and has never made a platformer before.

Yeah, thats my impression too. It seems like their first platformer, and considering that, its not actually a bad effort, but as a full game that they want to sell to people? Hm. Their game concepts definitely need some more time in the oven. Even just an overall worldwide highscore table , like in Surge, would go a LONG way for replayability.

In the end I knew that it might not be the best game in the world and threw them 2$ to show some support, but they really need to step it up if they want to continue making games.

One thing I immediately noticed (that you also did) was the lack of dynamic jumping distance with regard to longevity of pressing the x button. It feels like that would have helped so much, and it seems like it would have been such a shoo-in. And like you said, leaderboards would have helped.

I'm not mad I bought it or anything, but I feel like a seasoned platfomer developer would have done wonders for this.

I definitely would have preferred that as well, but I cant really fault them for that at least. They carefully designed the smaller worlds around that limitation (so you need to plan where you jump and use ceilings as jump block before falling). Maybe they could have used that jumping mechanic for only one world, and then introduce pressure sensitive jumping a world later. That way they wouldnt need to scrap all the level design ideas they had so far, and try to come up with new stuff for new mechanics. That would help the game a lot too since the levels feel way to similar now. Another world could add "run/farther jump" mechanics , or again another one adding walljumps and what not.

Still, its an ...lets call it... interesting take on the jumping mechanics and I was able to pull off some pretty cool maneuvers once I got used to it.

But yeah, the jumping mechanics are still more often than not a source of frustration(except in the first few small levels, which were rather cleverly designed). I always had full control over SuperMeatboy, which made the game feel great. That level of control is, even after getting used to the mechanics, missing a bit here. They really should have taken some more cues from Super Meat Boy.

Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus has four-person multiplayer
Three gameplay modes: Panty Scramble, Strip Fight, and Point Contest.

Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus will have up to four-player online and local ad-hoc team multiplayer, Weekly Famitsu has revealed.

There are three play modes: “Panty Scramble,” “Strip Fight,” and “Point Contest.”

In Panty Scramble, players are tasked with picking up panties falling from the sky and snatching them away from opponents within a certain time limit.

In Strip Fight, the rules are to strip each other of your costumes. You must attack your opponent within the time limit to take off their clothes.

In Point Contest, players will battle their opponents to earn points. Whoever earns the most points within the time limit wins.

goty 2013 right :P

I'm loving the recently updated Youtube app (updated in december, it didn't auto-update for me so I went without it for a while, one may have missed it.) When I first got my Black Friday Vita I was stoked to see it at least HAD a dedicated youtube viewer, but it was basically just that: a viewer. It was very snappy and HD playback looked sexy, but we got very little subscriber, and zero playlist functionality. Now we get awesome continuous fullscreen playlist playback, channel browsing, full search filter, and control via the Vita's buttons. Youtube's become such a goldmine for content in the past few years that this should be exciting to anyone. It blows any other iteration of a Youtube app I've used out of the water, especially the shitty PS3 one heh.

If only the browser could get the same treatment. Not sure why it's so slow, and the zooming and panning is really crummy. And it may just be the nature of the Vita's screen being just too small to comfortably view full page websites.

yup the YouTube app is pretty amazing, best version I've seen, hopefully the other apps will catch up

Ready at Dawn were beastly devs. I'd say they were even better than Bend, since Daxter and the GoW games were even closer in quality (sometimes even surpassing) to their respective console series than Uncharted Golden Abyss.

Syphon Filter: DM was the most mind-blowing handheld game ever when it came out. Voice chat, online lobbies, 8-player deathmatch, plus a fantastic single player campaign. Massive achievement.

I personally think their talents are utterly wasted on the predictable snoozefest the Uncharted series has become.

The difference is Uncharted games actually sell.

I wouldn't mind voice chat and online multiplayer for Uncharted: Golden Abyss 2. Afterall Sony Bend made one of the best in the series. We need more Uncharted for Vita but let the franchise rest on home consoles.

Was Golden Abyss even in the Top 10 NPD the month of the Vita's launch or the month after? It was the number one game on the system, but it wasn't high enough to justify a sequel in my opinion.

And the way I see it, Bend deserves a chance to shine with a game that won't immediately be compared to another developer's efforts. Maybe Ready at Dawn would've stuck around if they had been given the same opportunity.

I know that Uncharted was the best selling Vita game when it launched (probably still is today)

I actually hoped that Bend would make a different game, because like you said they deserve a chance to shine.

Talk about a triple post. :D

EDIT: maybe Safari made a mess on my phone. Anyway, I would like a Golden Abyss 2 before they move on to other projects.

Another dev that deserves better is sanzaru games, making a PS3 game and a Vita version must have been pretty difficult.

Also I believe that they could make Jak 4

edit: soul sacrifice got over 10k downloads ratings

Definitely. And the game looks amazing on both platforms.

It looks like it was SCEA's second best selling new release of 2012, counting all platforms.

I personally think their talents are utterly wasted on the predictable snoozefest the Uncharted series has become.

Especially since Naughty Dog has multiple teams now. They can handle their own franchise without downgrading a quality studio to "B-team" status. We know they won't though, because people don't like watching movies on a small screen.

hopefully sony you know actually markets the thing... sony really needs to invest a little more in marketing and trust in word of mouth a little less.

In Japan it'll be marketed. Outside of Japan? Can you remember the last non-Gran Turismo Japanese game that SCEA marketed? Neither can I.

Cool you have tha game for life and can resell vs a rental.

I'm more pumped for not using the space on my 16gb.

It just sucks cause I have a Euro Account and just can't use it on my vita :-(

Also I've asked this before but never got an answer is Fifa 13 worth 25?
I don't really mind its missing features of the PS3 version. I just kinda want a competent and fun soccer game to play while on vacation or in my bed

Knowing capcom they're going to port the NES games for $50 and call it a day.

why are capcom and contra being mentioned in the same sentence... it's a konami game :/?
I mean seriously...
300px-Konami_Code.svg.png

beyond that I would much rather have hard corps uprising two then contra 5

FIFA 13 is the best portable football game by a country mile. It is a fantastic game.

The only issues people had with it was that other than roster, it's the same and the launch FIFA. So if rosters are important pick its up, if not then grab the launch title.

Oh I suppose there will be more people online on 13 too

I won't shit up your thread Noi, but I'm not going to be trying out EDF digitally at that price either. I'd love to try it, but as the price of entry is high and I don't know if I'll enjoy it (even though it looks fun from videos) it'll have to be a lot cheaper or available physically for me to bite. I also have a lot on already. :/

In-joke, I can't remember where it originates from.

GAF meme.

I see... well like all memes it's stupid :P
It's quite believeable people think contra is a capcom game because of megaman... contra is a game where you run and shoot thus it must be from the creators of megaman... I have met those people :/

In-joke, I can't remember where it originates from.

well I don't get it :P though obviously I am not part of the in joke lol

also what I wouldn't do for a hard corps port on the vita that plays nice with the ps3 :/

Sweet, its just all the reviews were shitting on it and I couldn't tell if it was just because it was the same game as the last one or because the game sucked or was full of bugs.

I didn't have the original and 25 bucks is a good price.

I was going to say that, at least with Konami, you have a chance of them supporting the Vita... but I don't think Konami have supported it very much either have they? :'(

Hard Corps Uprising essentially was Contra 5. ^_^
I'd take either. I just want a game like that on my Vita.

Oh, and to answer your question:
Capcom = Konami is a GAF meme.

Yeah it's just because it is literally the same game :)

Still fantastic though, looks great and plays well.

Edit: ^ woo! Here's hoping its free for plus

hard corps mostly was but I really liked the addition of multiple characters and different abilities... with basically an rpg mechanic :P

edit my stupidity away... and konami was the publisher of Silent Hill: Book of Memories
