The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Sorry, but you don't know shit about genres.

Journey is a walking on Nesquik sim and Red Dead Redemption is a Marlboro ad/billboard sim.

Games can be more than one thing stop being so narrow minded. Like my RPG John Wayne Gaiden: Snow & Sass. Different scarves grant you different shouts.

Then you get to hear the crushing disappointment
I'm sure someone eventually told them what Soltsheim is, that there are a lot of Nords there, etc. Not that it would have helped, but hey. I think they do know that the mainland from Morrowind is no more, because the giant volcano in the middle exploded some time after the events in Morrowind.

They are the second and third best Scandinavian walking simulators on the market, respectively.

Despite my question, I love Journey with all my heart, and HATE Skyrim and Red Dead. I just acknowledged there might be some hypocrisy in I, too, calling Skyrim a "hiking simulator" last year. Though I would say sliding and flying are way different (and better) than what Skyrim offers.

If that game has the substance to it that I want it to have, I'm probably looking at one of the top 3 best games I'll play this year. I'm a complete sucker for puzzle games with unique concepts, and that sure is one puzzle game with an unique concept.

Yeah, the game looks cool, but there is something especially infuriating about watching someone else play a puzzle game when you see the solution long before the person playing.

This isn't a criticism of Patrick, it's just one of those things intrinsic to the genre. When the player gets the solution before the watcher, it's no big deal, but the opposite can be really annoying to watch.

Agreed. Puzzle games in general I feel are kind of hard to quick look. The actual quick look can still be funny (thanks to banter) but it can really start dragging.

One of the comments on it summed up my feelings.

Puzzle game quick looks are the most frustrating. PATRICK GET BEHIND THAT WALL FUCK

For DmC, I liked this quote from Patrick Klepek during the quick look:

Giant Bomb quick look said:
Brad's review, our perspective on the game, is very much from this very specific viewpoint of; maybe at one point finding the series interesting, losing the thread, not necessarily playing a whole lot of this kind of videogame. And if you're in that camp with us, we're basically saying this looks pretty interesting. If you're looking for this hardcore Devil May Cry player perspective, we're not really out there to provide that... We're not running reviews for DMCfans.com.

That quote is great to understand why there might be a disconnect between hardcore fans of a franchise and reviews for any niche franchise's sequels. And honestly, there are fan sites that do specific reviews for that kind of player, like for the Hitman or Splinter Cell games.

If you're that hardcore DMC fan, maybe give Bayonetta 2 money instead if this insults you.
