2013 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Let the JPEG Die Already

That's it, cuz the FXAA can't be removed. :(
Oh dear, that sucks. I think it's the same with Sleepy Dogs... it was either FXAA or SMAA that's forced, though.

Well, it's the best the game has looked regardless of the extra sharpening needed, so kudos.

I wonder if there's some kind of injector you can get pre-output that can disable FXAA? There has to be. Or a file that can be replaced or something.

Edit: I just found this, I don't know if it actually works or not because I don't have the game, but maybe it'll help:
EDTI: You can also disable FXAA in the ini folder to increase fps when playing AC3. It is in there, Make sure you look for MULTISAMPLING. Set it to =0.
From here.

Sleeping dogs with ingame "medium AA" looks awesome. Uses highly quality FXAA and then some light SuperSampling. Results in an pretty incredible AAed picture in realtime.

Woah what the fuck when did that happen? I beat the game and I didn't see that part.

Guessing it was his paedophilia habits.

Just read up on this. Yeesh.

I knocked SSAO down to Normal and it allowed me to use High AA and keep 60fps. It's another case where the AO's too strong for my liking on High anyway, so it worked out.

Editing the ini didn't work in AC3. Maybe you have to set it to Read-only so it doesn't change it on startup or something.

I would pay money for that PC Nintendogs sequel, I'll just need an Oculus Rift and it's like I have my won dog.

Nothing to do with anything, but:

A fellow Mars Trilogy fan. Your jib; I like the cut of it.

To be honest, I'd never really tried it much on anything other than the lowest one because of the performance hit, but I'd never thought of turning down SSAO a notch. Cheers guys!

DICE didn't ban anyone, I believe it was reports of Punkbuster picking up on it.

Yeah, I wasn't sure because SweetFX wasn't working. Windows 8, Fraps, and SweetFX don't get along. For anyone else having this problem just make sure you aren't running Fraps while playing games. 8(

Combat is dope, I've played alot of MMOs and Tera is one of the VERY few in which "Kill X creature Y times" never gets repetitive for me. I might resurrect the Art thread, I've got a bunch of Tera shots that I took at 11520x7200 lulz.

How are you taking out the hud? So fucking gawdy!

IDK man... I would like to know what he was banned for. He was just being incredibly honest... and I find that extremely admirable.

I don't think he deserves to be banned for that, if that's what he was banned for; but it was a bit of a rough read.

You probably did, it was in a cut scene after you encounter all the hanging bodies. You choose whether and how to save Gould (I think).

I think I went through that part differently then because I definitely didn't see that. That's definitely a striking image.

From reading, it doesn't seem as if he advocated anything, he just stated that he wasn't as offended by it.

If someone says they're not offended by murder and drug use and piracy, will they get banned?

Edited for Safety!

I just read some of his posts. That shit's fucked up. His FXAA blur fests will not be missed by me.

Loved his shots and After reading all of the posts, it's not really a problem.

There's nothing wrong with him, he just has different views of beauty than the norm. I'm no pedo, but I have strange taste, to be sure. Guess getting kicked because of an attraction is stupid. Unless I'm missing something here.

I don't personally enjoy the same things he does, but I don't think he deserved to be banned for it.

Was it perma or temp?

Temp = Meh

Perma = No flipping way. You can't do that to people for being a certain way and not expect backlash sooner or later. you might as well ban based on religions that go against your own.

Having a hard time find out what I like more. I think I actually like MSAA for its clarity of image. I am actually really surprised by the amount of blur in the sgssaa shots. Even when dialed up to 8XSGSSAA /which runs at about 60fps) the game is incredibly blurry. I tried messed manually with the LOD bias but that changed nothing. Perhaps I need different AA bits?
Eitherway..-

maybe the SGSSAA bits aren't working right?

Art shots, so sue me, and not mine (Joanne/PixieGirl's), but I thought they looked great. Polar panorama GTAIV.

this is also one of hers, this works with any game /set of images. the software for regular panoramas is kolor autopana giga, i think it can also create these types

personally not a fan of these circle things but regular panoramas i love - stuff like this

You must have unless I am missing something.
There are 3 guys the protagonists (if you can call them that in this game) encounter with one civilian as seen in my picture and Gould. He starts threatening that he will kill her and many others if he doesn't give something up. They start shooting really close to the woman's face and sand goes everywhere. Then eventually he just shoots her in the head with a pistol.

Minecraft, with some shader mods and texture pack.

Gate into a town we built on my private server.

Inside of a church I built for the town. I guess the NPCs are Christian, since a cross was the easiest thing to make!

The only game I can think of that I'd *love* to see a panorama of is Crackdown. And that's not a PC game :(

The bitter bitter pain of tutorials.

Really though, I like the SGSSAA one. I'm interested in how some people prefer very sharp, crispy images as opposed to softer, more natural ones. I can kinda see it both ways, though my preference is the softer. I feel that the crispy harshness can emphasize the videogamey-ness?

I like softness to an image to be applied via a dynamic processing effect, like depth of field, motion blur, or anything that isn't permanent or static. My above The Witcher 2 shots are good examples of what I mean. The depth of field varies based on the time of day and the weather condition. Light rays blooming through distant trees with soft depth of field look incredible, as does the slight shimmering of distant objects when there's a storm. But the intensity of the effect still varies, especially based on your distance from something. Get close enough and the detail returns.

Soft SGSSAA, or poor FXAA, gives an image what I consider to be an unnatural and disorienting blur, because clarity never improves and the softness never goes away. It's like it makes my brain feel drunk or something.

Exactly.

Use of dynamic effects to constantly change the appearance of the image is what you want - DoF, weather changing, blur kicking in when moving and stuff like that. A constant myopia effect on everything is horrible and personally I can't fathom people can play like that.

So you feel that one image you've seen in a thread makes up for the entire game's flat lighting?

I feel most of them do, but this one particularly exemplifies it. The best cases I saw when running it were during the introductory opera house sequence. Though, the terrain geometry gets quite flat, and I suppose thus flatly lit. But to be fair, I have not played the whole game, and it might be duller on the whole.

At least it doesn't have gleaming over-bloomed edges everywhere, way too many specular highlights, and blocky as fuck self shadows a la many of the current beautiful games.
