Wii U Satisfaction Thread

Is the Wii U looking at all like the Wii? It was fun but eh...does the "screen gimmick" wear off after a bit? I personally got tired of the motion controls and just enjoyed the games for what they were.

The Wii U doesn't "feel" like the Wii to me in that I'm playing more 3rd party games than I am 1st party ones at the moment. The screen is really nice but as a bachelor, off-screen play isn't really of use to me. I tend to still play a lot of indie eshop titles in bed on the screen though.

And though it's become cliche, I play a lot or watch netflix while on the crapper.

Nothing about the controller feels revolutionary to me. No games really take full advantage of it, but everything that IS available feels like a nice bonus. Do I think it's been worth it for nintendo to invest so heavily into the gamepad? Er, no, but bachelors aren't the target audience for those features anyway.

Using the GamePad to play Off TV will never get old, and may very well become your main access to your games. Because it's so convenient.

And in a game like FIFA (my favorite) you get the exact console controls + additional touchscreen controls. It's not either or, you get both. Few games, if any, capitalize as well as FIFA on this so far. But having extra control options is not a gimmick, it will certainly be put to good use in future titles.

In my case, my reliance on tv wears off. Last night I had some uninterrupted access to the tv, so I decided to check out how fixed-gamma Trine2's looked on the tv. I must have looked at the tv for about 5 minutes total, out of more than an hour play session. At one moment I realized what I was doing so I just turned off the tv altogether.

No. The Wii-mote's motion control had that limit of what it can be used for. Most games were just waggle waggle waggle. The screen will always have a purpose, even if it's just inventory.

played some ACII in bed yesterday evening, it was awesome.

It is a hard decision to play the game in bed with HUD, or HUD less and with surround on the big screen, both are verynice ways to enjoy the game, so good

Well, I play a lot multiplayer at home on the weekends so I cannot afford to constantly hook and unhook the console. But during those single-player nights the tv just 'collects dust' ; )

Wara Wara Plaza/Miiverse is pretty damn ingenious. Every single person who has their Wii U connected to the internet is now aware that, for instance, The Cave exists.

Unless they're blind.

EDIT: In North America at least.

I feel that the Wii U is the best nintendo console I owned since the N64.

I feel that it's the best Nintendo console I've owned since the SNES. I think it's the most fun hardware I've had since the Dreamcast. It does so many things right, and the controller - sticks, pad, triggers, buttons, everything feels perfect.

Like others have said, off screen play will never get old. This console really is all about the gamepad. I think it feels great in my hands. It might have my favorite d-pad ever, fantastic analog sticks, and great buttons as well. Just as a controller it's surprisingly fantastic. The screen is just an awesome extra. It basically allows the console to become a semi portable handheld in your house, but with really nice HD graphics. Of course the range is limited, but if you position the console right, most people will be able to play in several rooms of their home.

It's the most excited I've been about a Nintendo console since the GameCube and N64, and for me those were the two best Nintendo consoles. Finally having Nintendo games in HD is also kind of a dream come true.

Now THIS I agree with, having owned every Nintendo console and handheld since the NES

I really love the Gamepad, it's gonna be hard for other controllers to top it for me.
Also I think it might be time to hunt down a copy of Xenoblade, wish me luck!

Oh man I can't wait till i finish Darksiders so I can play Darksiders 2 with the game pad. I'm in love with this first game so far. Does the second game look much better visually?

RIP Vigil. You were awesome.

Second game does everything better. You're in for a treat.

I think Little Inferno is the best eShop game out right now. I had no idea what the fuck the game was about, even half an hour after I was playing it. I know it's on Steam and all, but playing it on the gamepad was great. Hoping they make a #2

First night impressions....

-Wii U is gonna be so fun for multiplayer. My one roommate loves Mario and we played a ton of NSMBU/Nintendo Land last night. I pretty much skipped out on the Wii, so I'm totally fresh and ready for all these Nintendo franchises. Gonna hit up the used game store today and see if I can snag some used Wii games I missed.

-HD Nintendo!

-The gamepad disconnects when I go from the living room to my bedroom. Somewhat disappointing but not a huge deal. Maybe if I rearrange the entertainment center/console. My bedroom is about 30-40ft with a few walls from the console.

-Gamepad screen looks a little washed out/low res. Gamepad seems a little chunky (feels great in hands though). Battery life seems a little low compared to something like an iPad which is slimmer and more powerful but gets way better battery life.

-YouTube is amazing! Dunno if my roommate's PS3 is too old? But the YT app on there runs like ass, while the Wii U one is great.

Couple questions....
  • There's no way to change your NNID after creating it, is there?
  • when on the main Wii U menu, if you have the menu options on the gamepad, the Miiverse plaza is on the TV screen w/ your Mii walking around. Is there anyway to control your Mii here and walk to the different games? This was confusing me last night. Or is that just like a snapshot of Miiverse?

Man I would love for Dark Souls II to come out on Wii U... the menus in that game are built for the gamepad! Do it From!

Don't use the youtube app, just use the browser.

And no, you can't control your Mii. The Wara Wara Plaza is just to highlight the most active communities.

Broke down and purchased friends for 200 new, guess he didn't want at all, love the controller and I hope the next gen consoles have something similar.

So... My Wii U arrived.

So far i've had to enter my wifi details manually (it found my SSID then said there was no network after entering the security key) :/

Now I am waiting for the system software update.

I dread to think what % of users have never even downloaded the software and have no idea what the console can do.

Anyway... is there a way to DL the system software in the background? I'm tired of waiting.

The Wii U has been the most enjoyable console I've owned since the PS2, I'm mostly a Sony guy(own all systems including vita) but Nintendo is starting to win me over. Absolutely satisfied with my purchase.

Not once you've started it. You should have clicked cancel when asked. That way, it downloads in the background.

I dunno why, but when I downloaded the initial update, on CHRISTMAS DAY no less, it was done in 25-30 minutes tops! Also, when I bought SASRT it downloaded the 5 gigs in about 45-50 minutes. Why are my downloads going so quickly while others are taking forever?

Do you live inside Nintendo?

I just found out last night that my Gamepad works in my kitchen.

I can turn on my Wii U. Get Netflix going and pick a show while making dinner so when it's ready I can sit on the couch and watch it.

Love this thing.

My friend's house got burgled last night while he was out :-(

The wii u was a casualty.

Cue taps...
Any digital downloads? Better get on obtaining that police report if you haven't already and jump through 67 hoops to get your eShop titles back. What a joke, Nintendo.

only took me about ~15 minutes to do the system update on my brand new Wii U yesterday.

I think this (their online infrastructure) and the pretty slow OS are my main problems with the system. More games are sure to come, the Wii U is surely going to see more than enough quality titles.

As for myself, at the moment I'm mainly playing my Wii-backlog on the new Nintendo console as well as getting to "The Cave". I'm still very happy with my purchase, it's very much a worthwhile product!

Nope. I know you're trying to get all angry and stuff but it would have actually been better had he had digital games :-( At least then there'd be a chance of getting them back eventually

Using mine now. Pad enjoyment hasn't worn off. Logged about 80 hrs in December. It's a much better system than Wii in my book.

Yup same here. I regularly play Blops 2 on the pad while watching hockey games, just watching some TV, etc. Without a doubt it's the feature that I really hope becomes a standard.

I need some advice WiiUGAF...

I have $200 in gift cards for best buy and I've wanted to get the WiiU.

1. Should I pick it up or wait for a price drop?

2. Deluxe or Basic?

Also, never picked up a Wii, but enjoyed playing some of the games at friends' houses.

Thanks!

since you're not sure about #1, I suggest you hold off and do some more research to avoid any buyer's remorse in the future
