Self conscious gaming and the double standard

Usually it doesn't bother me, I played through 2/3rds of GoW: Ghost of Sparta on a flight sitting beside an old lady.

However, it does if I bring it to school or something, feels like I should be working instead between classes.

Pftt, embarassed? Hear me out then:
I used to go down my local pub at 5:30pm and bust out my NDS to play Mario Kart DS online hijacking their free open WiFi for one hour straight (or even more) while enjoying a couple of pints before my mates joined me or I'd move to a different joint, and I guarantee you that has never stopped me from getting laid pretty often.
Well, now that I think about it it's probably 'cause I'm just that handsome

Why would anyone feel embarrassed about playing a handheld in public? I play mine all the time on campus and at work and have never felt self conscious about gaming on the go.

Then again I don't play games like Senran Kagura in public on my Vita
If I had the game I totally would...hehehe...

I have a 2x1 hour commute. If I'm playing a game that can be played in short burst then yeah I'll whip out that handheld. I dislike playing RPG's on the go, can't properly experience the music and take my time to enjoy it(transit, people being loud) .

Someone having fun on a bus instead of blankly staring into space? The horror!

I´m in the same situation and I absolutely LOVE to play Rayman Origins, Little Big Planet or Project Diva f while commuting to/from work - I don´t want to just sit there and look outside 2 hours a day...*nightmare*

What the fuck is wrong with society? I mean come on. I'm 35, I have a wife and a kid. I personally don't bring my 3DS or Vita anywhere (I barely even use my phone when out), but if I see someone using one I generally think "Wonder what they're playing", not "What a loser neckbeard"...even if those people have neckbeards.

y u lie!? You know you're secretly judging them! :P

...I play mine all the time on campus and at work

You sound like the kind of guy I want to hire.

I can't play handhelds in public, but when ocular devices like Google Glass start coming out, I would have no problem playing games on those.
