it tried to lawrence of arabia, instead it made a really gimmicky desert section which i'd rather just skip on playthroughs.

Uncharted 2 was a great game, Uncharted 3 set out to be an interactive cinematic experience. Don't buy it if you wan't, I am sure that myself and the people who do want those kinds of experiences will make up for your unsold copy.
Agreed, UC2 is great and all but i enjoyed UC3 more. I feel like we are the minority here though :/

I hope Uncharted 4 is more open and maybe they add a jump dive mechanic like Max Payne. Drake is very moblie and after playing tons of U2/U3 and MP3 it would be a fun addition. The MP needs to be like beta/launch Uncharted 2.

It's always disappointed me that UC3 genuinely had all of the flaws that UC2 haters accused that game of having.
UC2 is full of fantastic level design and great amounts of freedom in how you tackle its encounters.

I think I have grown tired of Drake and that world and UC3 was just so over the top and outlandish that I would rather not see them butcher the IP any more. I would like to see energies invested in other areas if possible.
Mind you, I haven't played UC:GA yet and perhaps another team making a sequel to that (on Vita) would be a good move (that system really needs any game it can get). I just think I would like to see ND invest their considerable talents in new directions and IPs.

They're making The Last of Us.
Uncharted is their bread and butter. It makes them a lot of money. This isn't the Naughty Dog of the PS1 / PS2 era. They're not going to abandon Uncharted just because it's the start of a new gen.

UC4 would in no way make sense as a launch title unless planned as cross-gen. I can't shake the feeling that this is an entirely new IP which can only be a good thing. With the advent of every generation all publishers need to make room for new IPs. Sequels are introduced a year or so down the line to assure they dominate on software and hardware.

That might be but I still would like to see them move on completely. I feel that UC was a great move away from Jak and an opportunity to explore new technologies and design concepts without being tied to the tropes of an established IP. The Last of Us is going to be interesting because it will be released so near the end of the generation. It would have made more sense for UC4 to come out this year and then The Last of Us to be a "launch window" release for the PS4.
ND is very talented, and if they think Drake still has more story to tell then so be it. However, I found it very difficult to suspend my disbelief in UC3 as Drake went from one impossible luck based scenario to the next. I enjoyed UC1 and 2 Drake because the majority of the time things were quite grounded (not always, very true, but most of the time) within the reasonable limits of human physiology and probability. I also don't really feel like UC3 developed the characters in any significant way so it left the impression that the universe was played out. Thus I fear that a new entry would come across as an empty (safe) cash grab.
I would love to see a return to the more dynamic design of UC2 and the multiplayer of UC2 Beta, but I think those days are long gone.

It would be, wouldn't it? How likely do you think something like that is though?
There are other developers who haven't had a game in a while from Sony and are probably focused on Orbis, but ND is having a big launch already this year.

UC2 is better than UC3 in my opinion but not by far. Its irrelevant though they are still by far the best TPS I have played this gen or even all time. That feeling when you play UC2 for the first time is unmatched...sooo gooood. I think I was high.
