Edge: PS4 to launch in Europe in early 2014, US/JP 2013, more powerful than next Xbox

haahahaha
;_;

Is it premature to ask if these specs will play nice with Oculus Rift? How about the Durango specs? Whatever platform plays nice with OR will likely be the one for me. THAT is the next gen I want to play. Interestingly, a screenless touch controller works with a VR headset...

To be honest the I bet the starting price for the PS4 would be well over $599... Which in my opinion is way to much... I will wait until $299 at least... -.-

From a business perspective, if Sony cannot launch worldwide simultaneously, it makes sense for Europe to be last. Both Japan and the US are unstable markets so they have to conquer those first. They'll dominate in the rest of the world easily.

How so, they have a wii u to fight in japan that seem doa and ms might as well not bother with japan so thats a market that they should pretty much own if they want it. Europe is up in the air, delaying it there is giving ms free pass to grab it, ms already owns the uk.

No way in hell we're getting 8GB of GDDR5. That means $599.
Also, remember folks that I was the first with the touchpad in controller rumor.

How much more can an addtional 4GB of GDDR5 cost when produced in the volumes they'll be needing? Seriously, I have no clue, but it can't be that much. If the PS4 came with 8GB of GDDR5, then I'd ready to claim it future proof for the foreseeable future.

November 2013 for the UK. Later for the continent.

This is what im hoping, because if it isnt then im not very happy :(

I understand the idea of tackling your unsure territories first to get in there before Microsoft does, but why rush for the Christmas period and not go for UK/Europe? Christmas is a lot less of a draw in Japan as far as im aware so missing it over here just seems like a bad idea.

Maybe my bitterness is just getting in the way :(

I'm okay with an early 2014 release for Europe, as it'll give me more time to save up.

Serious amount of bitching in here about a few months delay from my fellow euro's, fucking pathetic i doubt many of you are still children so grow up.

I would prefer a 2014 release, means the US and Japan do a little console beta testing for us, and it means i can use my Christmas bonus instead of putting any wages aside.

Like I said before, all they have to do is match the RAM available for game development not 8GB overall. That may be a more affordable solution.

If Sony are increasing the RAM it will be 1-2GB of cheap DDR3 for OS functions, devs will not have access to it for games. I think that is a good solution.

Europe is Sonyland.
UK is the only battlefield. It'll go to Sony unless Orbis is a cock up price wise.

I wouldnt be so sure, uk is 360 land and i think people really are looking for a new next gen machine. Ms being the only one out in the most important holiday for europe could really swing it to them. Sony treating europe like shit once again isnt going to go down well.

You guys are getting way ahead of yourselves. I highly, highly doubt it will have 8gb GDDR5.

Otherwise this:

Wouldn't make sense.

Only if they are still expecting one 4GB GDDR5. Anyway, pumping that up to 8 might be a bit of overkill. You can hold larger textures for longer if need be, but you'd still be waiting for the CPU and GPU to serve it up. Mad ups for open world games and draw distance tho...

It would cost a ton to get 16 chips on the motherboard. It would be a very complex motherboard to get that many chips onboard.

That´s how I see it.

Doubt it. Europe will go all at once. Why would you break it up like that?
UK is hardly a growth market atm anyway; I think its fair to say the Durango pick ups will be light enough for Sony to launch only a few months later and pick up enough of their own.

I don't understand why all Europe would get a delay except the UK.

based on what?

Its where MS made the most gains; rest of Europe has been desperately slim pickings for them.
UK is surely the place Sony can most increase marketshare.

I just had a hype stroke but we all probably need to chill on the 8gb GDDR5. They probably mean that sony means for the 4gb of it to match up to the 8gb ddr3 microsoft has. that makes the most sense

The Share feature is a good inclusion. Not sure it's enough, hopefully there's more clever OS-level features they have included in the thing. That said, launching later in Europe? Makes total sense. Why launch the thing in a country that loves your products, potentially giving an earlier release to your closest competitor, when you can launch first in a country that appears allergic to fucking consoles and hates your closest competitor?

I mean, logic.

Wait.

sony should just tack on 4GB of the cheapest RAM inside of the PS4 next to the GDDR RAM, and don't even connect it to anything.

So they can tell "we have 8GB in the PS4" to the not that tech savy, and keep the price low as well.

Hot damn video recording is something I've always wanted but didn't think anyone would implement for some reason.

And I had always guessed it would come out later in Europe because it's their strongest area but I still don't fully buy it.

Why do we always get screwed. If Durango releases in Europe this year Sony's excuse on European distribution will have far less merit.

Rest sounds great though.

Development sources with working knowledge of both next generation consoles have told us that PlayStation 4 will be more powerful than the next Xbox, will ship with a redesigned controller and launch by the end of the year in Japan and the US. PlayStation 4’s European launch will follow in early 2014.

Cmon sony make it happen

a) those are not "Edge's" rumors, but rumors posted as news and b) look at how they're presented versus this. This is concrete information Edge has obtained from developers. It's as good as fact.
What are you on about? Of course they are Edge rumours, they are reports published by Edge, on their own website.

Didn't Europe get the superslim first?

Maybe, but that´s really not what matters.

I know a lot of people here who bought the PS3 just out of reflex and were constantly bummed out about FIFA ( it´s huge here ) not looking as good as the XBOX version.

Europe is a swing state most def.

Sony should be here in time.

If I understand correctly that share feature basically saves the last 15 minutes of your playtime right? Or do you have to press it then it will record the next 15 minutes?

Am I the only one that really loves this?

absolutely not. this is the one feature I've wanted as standard and at an OS level for quite some time and was very disappointed that microsoft didn't implement such a feature in their yearly / bi yearly updates.

I really do hope consoles offer this at an OS level, it's an absolutely vital feature in my opinion.

Ha ha ha!

Honestly, I'm ok with this. As much as I'm ready for a new console I think my years of day one purchases are behind me so don't mind waiting a short while to see how it develops. Sony has won my support back from Microsoft in the last year so I'm happy to continue with support for them as long as they go into this generation remembering the lessons from the past.

8gb gddr5? holy. MUTHAFUCKIN SHIT

This is obviously not happening. If it's this easy for sony to change their RAM configuration this late in the development process - what makes people think Microsoft won't just add 4GB DDR5 to their current box to offset sony's advantage?

Question why is the 8 GB of "GDDR" Sony has so mind blowing? Wouldn't 8 GB in and of itself be "holy shit"
But posters are acting as if the "GDDR" is the most important part.

I don't get it :(

I want to be excited and hyped about all these rumours. But I want to remember they're rumours and reality can be far less exciting.

Help me GAF. What should I do?
