Microsoft making at least four new IPs

That Naughty Dog hire doesn't look good when you consider he worked on the 8 worst chapters in the series' brief history.

Ch.18 being the worst chapter of any video game ever. You literally hold your analog stick forward and walk through a desert for 10 minutes. Don't believe me search it on YouTube.
he'll do better with MS, Sony was holding him back.

Think about it....would they really be bringing in all of this good to great talent from companies like ND, Retro & such to have them work on Kinectimals 2? And on top of that have them excited to do so?

Well we know it is a new IP but that doesn't rule out that it could be for Kinect though...or a core title...we don't know

Of course some people do. Some people like the Transformers movies. Some people like Britney Spears. No accounting for taste. One can recognize something is not for me and also criticize that something if it is impacting your hobby. One can recognize something is for a different audience and still point out very real problems it has, which the Kinect undeniably does.

So you don't really even dispute most of the points I'm making - you concede the problems Kinect has, even if perhaps you don't think they're as severe. You just want to use it anyway.

The ultimate goal is complete immersive virtual reality, which would somehow 'fool' the body into being able to 'feel' surfaces and stuff like that.

That's probably 50~80 years away for the consumer level :P

Anyway, it's not that I don't want to be entertained by something other than just 'moving my thumbs.' It's that I don't want to be entertained by something that is inherently limited for most genres. It's that I don't want to do it if it's in exchange for something much better - for example, if Kinect was 100% perfect and included in Xbox 720, but we had to take a power cut to have it. Then, fuck that, because power is far more important than being able to have tech that would be quaint for about three circus sideshow parlor trick games, in my view.

Naturally. I never claimed otherwise.

Honestly I'm not debating all your points because I'm working and have limited time to post. My main point is simply that, while I agree Kinect is NOT a replacement for many current genres, I think it can have a hugely impactful effect as a supplement to current control schemes while at the same time being used a vehicle for genres that haven't been invented yet. First person shooters weren't a genre that existed until the tech allowed us to create that.

Advances in AI can make tech demos like Milo a reality eventually, and for that Kinect is absolute necessity. It's simply going to require talented people with a creative vision to make it happen. That's where I fundamentally disagree with your point that Kinect is useless for gaming and that it has nothing to do with creativity. It has a lot to do with creativity.

I WANT more immersion in my games. Kinect, and also Move to some extent, allows that to happen. It allows game to go beyond what we have now. As I said, I could play Child of Eden with a controller, but playing it with my body was a hugely more immersive experience for me.

Now if only we can combine Oculus Rift with Kinect!

Well we got this bit of info:

My guess is that either the makers can chose to add Kinect functionality (For example, 343 had the option to add Kinect to H4 but didn't because it didn't fit.) or it will use optional Kinect voice capabilities.

Microsoft owns Twisted Pixel? Didn't know that. I know they're not responsible for it, but the Ms. Splosion Man pinball table is one of the best in Pinball FX2.

No, the post I responded to was another in a long line of your stupid "Once Microsoft focused on Kinect their focus on gaming went away." Clearly it hasn't.

The fuck? Did you even bother following the conversation? It had nothing to do with that at all. Jesus turn the fanboy defense system down a notch or two.

Because Press Play and Twisted Pixel handles job applications on their own. Not trough Microsoft.

Then why is MS LA not listed on the careers portal?

Also really interested in what sports game Skybox is doing ... I wonder if we get a few more studios formed by MS

Because new studios like Lift and LA haven't been added as studio categories yet, but you will find jobs for them there.

Fanboy of what, exactly? Logic? Your insistence is that Microsoft is focusing on Kinect to the detriment of games. You've repeated that nonsense ad nauseum. Yet facts dont back you up. You claim they've lost you as a gamer. Yet there you are in all the Microsoft threads. Glutton for punishment or just enjoy trolling?

I'll give you another chance to go back to that conversation and read it without your reactionary fanboy goggles on. It says nothing about focusing on kinect instead of normal games. We were talking about kinect 2's potential to be used in normal games.

Hell yes,cannot wait to hear about these. Microsoft is so far behind Sony in the first party game. Forza and Halo seem to be the only franchises worth a damn. Fable went to shit long ago. Sony on the other hand have been kicking ass. With both companies aggressively producing first party content, we can only benefit.

New IP's is where its at, and next gen is the best time to kic start that. KINECT is a family/social device,it was never really designed to lure in the hardcore audience. MS needs to remember who put their console on the map.

The steam comment really confused me. MS has never given two shits about the PC digital space, so why start now? Would they strike some sort of deal with Valve for digital distribution? I cant ever see that happening. Perhaps they saw the incredible success of this gens PC sales and wish to replicate that effectively..

The problem with Kinect is that there isn't enough "gameplay" in a Kinect game. Kinect Sports table tennis would be a thousand times better if there were skill involved instead of putting spin by swinging up or swinging down. A hand held controller with the appropriate sensors would alleviate this completely. It would also still allow for complete 1:1 mapping of the body so you would still be moving in real space around the virtual table. If MS does not include controllers for Kinect, then they will continue to be limited in the audience for Kinect games.

Of the new IPs MS is making, there is guaranteed to be some Kinect ones in there. They have a product they want to sell, and that has sold well, so they will certainly push the new one with 1st party offerings that attempt to show what can be done, and how to do it. MS has even said 1st parties are there for that reason. So Kinect certainly drew some resources from within MS to push their new creation. Whether that was good for them in the long run, only time will tell, but it certainly didn't hurt them in the short run.

Saying that, they also need to sell the new box to those that provide the backbone for the system. They are certainly renewing their creation of core games, as can be seen by job openings and also journalists in the know. They are certainly courting 3rd parties for exclusives, and possibly 3rd parties are courting them to get some extra exposure during the gen opening. Core gamers will have core games at launch, that is a certainty. Whether they will be good or not only time will tell.

I cant ever see that happening. Perhaps they saw the incredible success of this gens PC sales and wish to replicate that effectively..

They are analyzing Steam and other distribution channels to see what enhancements or changes to their systems they can make to increase sales/memberships/etc. That could be a renewed focus on the PC, or it could not, we don't know.

I'm pretty sure your smile wasn't close to painful bro

it always pains me to pretend I'm enjoying something I'm not. I always feel like I'm under contractual obligation to act like I'm in love with whatever gift people get me. it's actually a worse feeling than just having a cut or something :P

So he's a "bad hire" because he worked on a level you didn't like? lol

Hey I feel you on that but when my wife is playing Dance Central I swear some of those moves were put in specifically for my visual enjoyment.

Honestly my fiancee isn't the best dancer, I think I'm a better dancer than her lol

she kinda just made everything look clumsy and awkward

oh shit if she finds this

that is the world's largest time gap double post lol

edit: on closer inspection it's just a strangely similar post, but not quite the same? Parallel Universe BruceLeeRoy made the second version lol

Fricken Anaheim 4 Bar LTE my ass! It looked like it timed out and then I started from scratch.

Ami lets turn this thread into a life journal of our issues with the significant other.

Our first topic:
How panties solve every unsexy moment

well basically sometimes i feel like she gets me gifts on my birthday she secretly just wantrs for herself

i mean by this point I think she's aware I don't like certain things but she's always nudging me with 'look-at-what-i-got-for-your-birthday'*puppy face* shit, and then I have to grind out a few nights playing it with her. I don't mean to sound unappreciative or anything but it just seems sort of manipulative!

I bet if Microsoft Xbox 720 was Kinect based and all these 4 IPs ended up being Kinect games that she'd totally be telling me she pre-ordered one for my birthday this year.

Edit: The question is, what type of panties?

Your move in this situation is to buy a nice teddie from your women's lingerie store of choice and say "look what I got you honey! It's spandex so it will be perfect for these dance sessions"

then she'd tell me I'd have to wear the speedo she got me as a joke for our third anniversary :<

i dunno let's start a bet who will be making these four IPs then or something, conversation kind of died

RARE making one surely, right?

so Lionhead making another?

Who else?

Edit: oh I see it's another dude bitter over someone spittin' truths about Kinect, even though that individual has gone to great lengths to explain in detail the problems with the tech. tsc tsc

I have some theories: Post 1, Post 2, Post 3, Post 4 and Post 5.

I think it's save to say that one of those projects is from Black Tusk Studios. The rest is anybody's guess.

Here is another manager:

Black Tusk is a easy bet. The manager clearly states that he has done work at Microsoft Studios Vancouver, BC. Black Tusk was previously know as Microsoft Studios Vancouver.

Black Tusk Studios is located on Cambie St. between Smithe St. and Robson St. in downtown Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Big Park is also in Vancouver, BC, but they have never been referred as Microsoft Studios Vancouver.

Its interesting to me that in this thread and in general, MS are accused of focusing on few core titles yet in the other thread about Sony exclusives, the suggestion there is that Sony should concentrate on few core exclusives that perform well instead of publishing exclusive after exclusive.

Anyway I am happy they are introducing new IPs, especially as they are most important at the formative years of a new console and generation. Hopefully the lot of them will be really good, if not forget the flops and concentrate on the hits but give us something new every once in a while at least.

So, how many new IP's is Ms reasonably working on?

-Microsoft is probably assembling new studios (see TheOddone)

-Four are coming from Black Tusk;

-We know Crytek is working on Ryse (third party, but still);

-Rare is indeed working on more than one game (which may very well include Kinect stuff, sadly);

-Lionhead is said to be working on a new IP (MMO-like);

-Undead Labs is working on the survival-MMO thing;

And more

T

There are some different projects floating around:

Not bad.

And this goes together with well-known-in-development sequels like Forza 5, Horizon 2, Alan Wake 2, new Halo, Crackdown etc.

And hopefully some good old franchises are brought back to life, like PGR (developed by Lucid Games?).

Long term or just for the launch period? Only retail or XBLA as well? Just core or also casual, fitness, educational? Overall, I'd say we'll see around a dozen new properties in the first year, spread across all those categories.

I was thinking about launch-period/first year.

A dozen new properties would be really great, even if half of those are going to be Kinect-focused.

And even then, we don't know how powerful Kinect 2 will be, how accurate. Assuming new Kinect games are going to be as bland as current ones, is stupid.

Honestly when someone talks about AAA games, I think production values so by judging that I think we will see it skewed more to retail core games, initially. I think we will also see a fair few better with Kinect but non that require it.

I want to know what these TV/Movies/Games are do they mean games with a high production like that of movies/TV ... or TV/Movies to be produced for Xbox

Very interesting. Is there anything to know about Black Tusk that should indicate the type of game they might work with or the quality of it?
