Microsoft making at least four new IPs

And check my earlier post.

Seems to be a Redmond based internal studio, seeing so many designers and design directors.

I said once it's a Star Wars game because of their christmas photos on Facebook, but that can be random of course :)

edit: here:

it's a little bit too much Star Wars ;)

343 also use to say that they wanted Halo to become as big as Star Wars. So seeing as that they might be making a space shooter, want to "compete" with Halo, Star Wars ain't a bad inspiration.

MS seem to have a great stable of new IP coming. Now its just to see the quality. Honestly all I want is AW2 with all the technical limitations taken away and the hand holding removed so the game can be the thriller it always should have been.

Also I want more Bright Falls

Surprised they're going with a space shooter IP when Halo, Destiny and Gears are all there. Hopefully it's something different and more outside the box.

Honestly when someone talks about AAA games, I think production values so by judging that I think we will see it skewed more to retail core games, initially. I think we will also see a fair few better with Kinect but non that require it.

I want to know what these TV/Movies/Games are do they mean games with a high production like that of movies/TV ... or TV/Movies to be produced for Xbox
I was thinking more like what Alan Wake was supposed to be like originally with new episodes each week. A cross between something like Spartan Ops in Halo 4 with actual story progression.

Can't wait for it, whatever they do it will be great since Remedy has yet to fail me.

Pretty much has to be, or else it will be FUSE, and I think Microsoft of all people is aware of that considering all the IPs they actively maintain hold something unique that keeps them alive.

Exactly, they will not rival their own biggest franchise. Here is hoping it will be a real space shooter[sim] - like Wing Commander.

I hope 343 get a chance at creating a new IP. Having them just make Halo all the time would make them stagnate IMO.

Edit. Yea i know it wont happen lol.

Would prefer a real Crackdown sequel. I personally don't need any more pew pew pew games.
Everyone wants a new Crackdown game; or a real Crackdown 2. I just don't feel like it'd make a great next gen showcase game, unless there are really insane particle effects or something.

Disappointing but true. They're not a stagnant team, but the series they're working on sure is.

Here is hoping for a spin-off - like that Nemesis fake leak. I liked the idea of a 3rd person Halo game.

Destruction, man. And I know many will not like this - but huge open world multiplayer too.

Larger scale and draw distance, destruction of buildings, make the scaling of buildings a bit more complex and interesting, and flesh out the city even more.

If they can make some interesting and massive scale gang-wars type of stuff, then it would be awesome. 4 players was a great laugh just messing around. If they actually have a focus in there, maybe like the whole APB thing they tried to do (Cops and Robbers gangs etc).

They will contribute to the core catalogue with engine stuff though - just like T10.

And already have been, at least according to their lead dev. Which is exciting stuff moving forward. Lets hope Corriene had some input into the new system.

Finish the Reclaimer trilogy.

And then i hope they dive into the past of the halo verse.
PreHistoric Human vs Forerunner vs Flood.

Or some of that Nemesis fake leak 3rd person game the more stealthy approach to covert spartan missions. Kinda how they do in the extended universe.

Or just a new IP good thing they didn't called themselves Halo studio because 343 is a cool name which doesn't have to relate to halo forever.

High Res Orbs and a new city. That's all I need. But one thing is for certain, if they include the Orbs that run away from you, I'll never buy it. File that design decision under: Anti-Game/Anti-Fun.

I really hope one of them is some kind of action/adventure game, either in the zelda or in the god of war style.
But who am I kidding, it's going to be one FPS, one TPS, one racing game and either an action rpg, or another FPS/TPS.

I am hoping they reboot Fable and make it as MS's Zelda game. Drop the farting, expand on the effects of being good or evil and make those choices more meaningful.

Okay these actually sound like great ideas. I imagine a TDU-like MMO setup might be a huge sell too.

Not sure about destruction entirely though, I feel like that might fuck too much with the platforming and be difficult to build animations for. I think maybe doing something with a city that evolves and grows with its architecture may be cool to make for some really interesting platforming. A lot of moving and changing architecture city-wide.

Europe MS studios are really difficult to pin down on what they are doing. Their job listings are too vague or general. There are a bunch up on Gameindustry's website.

The role will focus on building and guiding a team defining and creating the online services architecture for the project, including analytics, user generated content, security concerns, seamless post-launch updates etc.

I have no doubt that Microsoft will still take the Core experiences seriously. They have Phill Spencer and he's been a pretty damn awesome dude on the IPs he's helped brought to the table and the amazing effort he did with XBLA line ups. Alan Wake 2 is all what I need for the start of this generation but a Crackdown 2 would be so god damn amazing to actually play a game that's all about game-play <3 The idea of Microsoft investing in a Horror-Sci Fi game is quite appealing to me considering the resources and effort they go with their titles for fiction and making great universes (just look at the Halo writing team on what they did with Bungies work and also Eric Nylund). We're in for a treat either way!

One thing I do know about Rare thanks to my boss's wifes' brother working at the place (one of the technology programmers there) is that they are investing a lot in 3D sound programming and having a blast with the things they are getting. Last Christmas he was at their old building when they did the fireworks display the lucky bugger.

Interesting...did he mentioned anything by chance? :)

Just looked on the wiki page for Microsoft studios and it's said that Black Tusk is a "2 team studio", wasn't on their before. Rare apparently has 3 teams.

No but I can always ask my boss anything more interesting, I think he only sees him here and there when he visits their place to see his sister. Other thing he mentioned was how awful their management was in the past on projects that kept changing or getting cancelled. Sometimes the departments work on things secret that other members don't know.

When Aegies was posting in the Durango thread he did mention that Microsoft was doing something interesting regarding sound.

This thread is getting me excited for whenever this thing is inevitably released. There are a lot of doubters at GAF in the "glorified DVR" camp. As I said elsewhere, the 360 has been the best gaming experience for me (I started gaming with the NES).

I'm fairly certain Durango is going to top the 360 in the overall experience. Give me some of the exclusives being rumored here along with strong 3rd party commitments and I'll be really happy. If I can get a Crackdown sequel, Alan Wake, Gears of War, a Forza game, and some other juicy exclusives within the first 3-4 months and I'll be a happy camper! The sound stuff is intriguing and may make it the definitive multimedia experience.

All that 3D sound thing is intriguing... if they want to make it a common feature, will they expect anybody to have surround systems ? Will they provide their own sound source, or expect users to be wearing headphones ? (I remember listening to binaural demos a long time ago, that was really impressive... but those were recordings, generated spatialization was less convincing).

Such info/rumor frequently makes me think about the AR glasses that appeared in previous patent links. It would all fit together, but I won't believe that MS can produce affordable peripherals like those. But then, I didn't believe at the time that they could produce affordable depth cameras either.

I'm racking my brains but I can't think of anything they could be doing. anyone want to make some educated guesses?

There are a few possibilities:
1. Kinect Room scan for a 5.1 config matrix to optimize your speaker setup. I think that this is a bit unlikely because it requires some either very specific user input or a great library of AV vendors.
2. Adaptive 5.1: Kinect could be used to locate your ears in the room to give you a good listening experience wherever you sit.
3. Some Q-Ent. like synesthesia game

Edit. Yea i know it wont happen lol.

Maybe they'll get to work on something else eventually, but I don't think being tied to Halo should necessarily be creatively limiting. It's a huge universe with many different characters and many possible stories to tell in many different genres. I don't think they will forever just be doing mainline FPS games and nothing else.

I am hoping they reboot Fable and make it as MS's Zelda game. Drop the farting, expand on the effects of being good or evil and make those choices more meaningful.

I don't want Fable to become more like Zelda, but I can agree with the rest. It doesn't need a reboot, however, just a sequel that drastically improves on Fable III.

Well apparently the audio block/DSP is really powerful, even the VGLeaks have a section for it in their vote feature.

Weren't there rumours of them experimenting with 3D audio? Or was that someone else?

I can see that being interesting if Kinect is very powerful and making more use of spacing.

Imagine if using constructive and deconstructive interference they could deliver audio to your ears depending on where your sitting, as detected by Kinect. Maybe Kinect itself has speakers just for this purpose.

I am an audio nut but there is only so much you can do, so I do wonder what it's for but I guess Kinect?

Not just for Kinect. One of the audio engineer (Bkillian) on B3D said never underestimate the computing cost of audio in video games and that most racing games use up a whole core on the 360 to process audio. He said one programmer in a certain studio made a request for some audio stuff he would like to do in his game, but it was impossible to do, as doing it would require more than the computing power of the 360 (both cpu and gpu) to process it. So I think the audio DSP is really powerful and apparently one of the 3 custom block (sauce hehe) in the durango.
