Welp, guess I already know what game to buy next month!
Any serious problems with playing the game unmodded first?.
Love the GOG wood shelf.

Not so great when you reach 400+ games :/
Neither is text only come to that
I could really do with something to arrange it better, though. Folders, or the ability to group games together without dragging them all by hand.
yep (http://www.abload.de/img/gogshelfxykp0.jpg). I just have everything stored on a hdd, and use the title search only on the site for downloading new and updated files. annoying they removed the browsing without stuff you already bought showing up filter from the storefront.

Edit: The HUD is small, but it doesn't bother me at all.
So current mods to use are outlined on GOG now here and simplified to just the two links below:
SSTool v4.8 - Highly recommended, updates SS2 folder with latest fixes (should fix fullscreen video errors, binding configs, etc - reports of it working by some, but may not be 100% compatible with GOG release just yet - though if there are issues probably will be updated shortly)
SS2 Newbie Modding Guide - Less critical, links to other suggested mods, such as SHTUP (better object textures), SHMUP (better music), and a few others.
And the useful information for making the HUD larger is here and/or here.
Seems the mods work great for some people and others are still having trouble, hopefully the issues are sorted out soon for those experiencing them!![]()
So bitter. The new traffic was killing their site so they changed it. They'll probably change it back after things settle down.Uh you need to sign up on that site to get to the mods. Lame.
Going vanilla, not a graphics whore. Can appreciate many older game's graphics.
Best music in the game. Also the best level. This Deck is when System Shock 2 actually becomes legendary.

Unless the GOG release includes it, I'd seriously look into the widescreen/high resolution patch. It even improves the game's color depth. It really is a massive improvement without affecting the developer's intent in any way.
Again, I'm not sure if you're using the latest widescreen patch but it includes some excellent HUD scaling options. It looks great even at very high resolutions.
Neat, will try it out.
The GOG release comes with the OST in FLAC format![]()

What does this even mean? You had to keep using CD while playing?-The game comes with the 2.4 patch which made the disk copies relevant for literally everyone last year
It was the only way to have the game before the gog release...What does this even mean? You had to keep using CD while playing?
Does SS2 support controller use? Don't kill me, I play mainly on console, but have always wanted to play SS2.

I've only played the first 20 minutes or so but a mouse seems pretty integral to the control scheme.
There is zero official support and any custom support is going to require you to drag around a mouse cursor with your thumbstick quite a bit.
Is there a patch that makes the controls not so fucking terrible? I can't get used to not being able to walk slightly backwards without turning around -_-

...Lol. Rebind the strafe/turn keys, the defaults are weirder than the usual but the key functions are the same.Is there a patch that makes the controls not so fucking terrible? I can't get used to not being able to walk slightly backwards or strafe without turning around -_-
waiting for a xpadder controller mod... fucking hate keyboards and mice lol
Lol GOG forums drama:
-Apparently the interview implies that no pre-existing patches were good enough for them
-The game comes with the 2.4 patch which made the disk copies relevant for literally everyone last year
-People claim that GOG/Nightdrive made the 2.4 patch

Do I need to play System Shock 1 before I play 2?
I see, thanks guys.
I may still check it out, have wanted to play it for a LONG while now, just hate sitting at my desk to play games.
It won't be possible. Sure, you could map the controller to emulate keyboard and mouse functions but the interface relies so heavily on the mouse that it won't be any fun to play. You'll just be moving a cursor around the screen with an analog stick in order to click on tiny objects and buttons. Does that sound like fun?waiting for a xpadder controller mod... fucking hate keyboards and mice lol
I still can't believe System Shock 2 was, at one point, being worked on for Sega Dreamcast (and, in fact, a very early build was leaked). I can't imagine how the hell they would have translated the game to a pad with so few buttons.I legitimately would love to watch video of someone doing an entire playthrough of this game with a controller.
People are speculating that Nightdrive could be actual developers behind 2.4 patch. No confirmation but it is believable imo as using fan created mods/patches in official releases can be problematic to both sides.
EDIT:
Looks like there is some drama:
Looks like some bullshit is going on....
