System Shock 2 Confirmed for GOG Release! Out Now! (Via RPS)

It charged me twice but gave no game.

Fuck you Shodan. I'm writing to your webmaster.

Look at you, shopper. A pathetic creature of cash on loan, gasping and shrieking as you click through my webpages. How can you challenge a perfect, immortal DD site?

Just last weekend I thought that I really would like to play System Shock 2 some day. And just a few days later it suddenly leaves the license hell and is being made avalaible on gog. What great timing! Too bad that I'm notoriously broke, but I'm definitely looking forward to picking it up in the near future.

SS1 has never even been talked about.

I wonder if they think it's slightly awkward to release that, given the existence of the somewhat-dodgy patched version out there. But then again, GoG do have Betrayal at Krondor when that was released for free - legitimately - ages ago for a period.

Edit cam_ext.cfg and remove the semicolon from ";d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay 64". Note that this only applies to 2.4 and I haven't checked the GOG version setup yet.

That cfg file is absolutely within the install folder. The GOG version uses the same patch. Just remove the semicolon?

EDIT: Yup, totally worked.

Could you elaborate?

I haven't listened to it, but I imagine it is something along the lines of them wondering where they can go next to take a game like System Shock 2 to the next level and add even more amazing depth and features....

and yeah.

It is sad to me because I hate that developers "sell out" and make games that will bring in income instead of striving to make the greatest game of all time. It is even sadder that those magical companies who did strive for the stars are now out of business more or less proving the Activisions of the world right.

Sigh.... One day I'll get rich and blow it all on something that is really incredible that nobody else will make. That will always be the dream.

FEELS GOOD MAN

Those are some decent games you have there.

FYI the game appears to already have been patched to 2.4 version.

check the release notes in the \doc folder

That's good news. So then the game's really ready to go with just a minor (or really no) need for mods. 2.4 was the biggest one of the bunch.

I had extracted the contents of the SHTUP and SHMUP .zips into the dataPermenant folder. Does the 2.4 patch render the SHTUP obsolete?

they've got star control 2 despite ur-quan masters existing as well. doubt they would hesistate to put it up for sale if they could

Doesn't work for me(Win7). Screen goes black and then "blabla has stopped working"

€: Window mode works!

Apparently, you need to repatch the game with ss2tool for the video based cut scenes (or possibly do it manually yourself by installing the NewDark pach and stuff yourself, I don't know) to work in any resolution, otherwise they only work in the default resolution (which I can confirm, I've yet to repatch though, it seems to re-apply things like the 2.4 patch and I'm not sure if it could break anything else) defeating the point of being patched to begin with. The patch also automatically makes the installation mod ready (if it wasn't already with the gog version, I don't know).

I'm gonna give this a few hours or a day for a definitive quick start and modding guide to show up that addresses things like the above and includes other visual tweaks like some dude's high resolution space view textures and some other tweaks he's done if they work well like the eggs (explaining which version is the good one as there are a few and one just has a garish square attachment point) and dripping goo, blood splatters (but not ground biomatter as SHTUP's is better) etc.

Works flawlessly. Installed, loaded it up; the video options even picked up my downsampling resolutions. This will be enjoyable.

Works perfectly! Thanks.

Anyone know if there is a mod to allow mouse sensitivity adjustment for each axis? It's a bit OTT on the Y axis. From what I've read this is a result of running in wide aspect.

As a man who doesn't play things like Slenderman or other horror games (because I'm a pussy with jump scares or psychological shit - even Bioshock got me a couple of times) would I be best not playing this. I still don't know how I didn't play this growing up.

You should definitely try SS2. It can be quite tense at times but I don't recall many (any?) jump scares really. It's quite a cerebral horror if you can say such a thing.

I've heard so many good things about it and feel it needs to be in my library. Maybe i should give it a go. Cheers!

don't misguide him into purchasing this. System Shock 2 is scary as shit.

Any serious problems with playing the game unmodded first? I played Deus Ex unmodded a few years ago and didn't mind it much.
