System Shock 2 Confirmed for GOG Release! Out Now! (Via RPS)

Love the GOG wood shelf.

gog_shelf_zpsfb573243.jpg

I could really do with something to arrange it better, though. Folders, or the ability to group games together without dragging them all by hand.

Game crashes when I press the remove t nav or whatever keys set to Shift + Z in my case.

Also I couldn't get the cinematics to work for me even after repatching with ss2tool.

So current mods to use are outlined on GOG now here and simplified to just the two links below:

SSTool v4.8 - Highly recommended, updates SS2 folder with latest fixes (should fix fullscreen video errors, binding configs, etc - reports of it working by some, but may not be 100% compatible with GOG release just yet - though if there are issues probably will be updated shortly)
SS2 Newbie Modding Guide - Less critical, links to other suggested mods, such as SHTUP (better object textures), SHMUP (better music), and a few others.

And the useful information for making the HUD larger is here and/or here.

Seems the mods work great for some people and others are still having trouble, hopefully the issues are sorted out soon for those experiencing them! :)

Shodan has possesed my bank so the transaction wil be cleared in the next 40 hours or so.

Meanhwile I'm gonna finish Antichamber.

I want somebody to make a horror Antichamber.

yeah, I don't really want all those free games mixed in with my hand selected collection either.

Just played it for a bit. Works flawlessly with no mods and the game still is terrifying.

Edit: The HUD is small, but it doesn't bother me at all.

Any serious problems with playing the game unmodded first?

Unless the GOG release includes it, I'd seriously look into the widescreen/high resolution patch. It even improves the game's color depth. It really is a massive improvement without affecting the developer's intent in any way.

Again, I'm not sure if you're using the latest widescreen patch but it includes some excellent HUD scaling options. It looks great even at very high resolutions.

Uh you need to sign up on that site to get to the mods. Lame.

Going vanilla, not a graphics whore. Can appreciate many older game's graphics.

So bitter. The new traffic was killing their site so they changed it. They'll probably change it back after things settle down.

No need! I can run SS2 retail cd version on my Win7 64bit without any problems. I don't even need the no cd crack. Lucky me huh...

Neat, will try it out.

The GOG release comes with the OST in FLAC format :)

I'm really a sucker for achievements.

Sounds like they will be making it Steamworks in the next few weeks so I can get my delicious achievements.

I'm crazy hyped to play this game though. From the descriptions I've been reading about it sounds like a perfect game for me!

Lol GOG forums drama:

-Apparently the interview implies that no pre-existing patches were good enough for them
-The game comes with the 2.4 patch which made the disk copies relevant for literally everyone last year
-People claim that GOG/Nightdrive made the 2.4 patch

Trust me, the older game graphics are AWESOME. But SS4Tool keeps everything vanilla but makes it so much more better to run on W7. Widescreen support and some standard bugfixing that never got done officially make that tool really worthwhile.

What does this even mean? You had to keep using CD while playing?

So does it come with 2.4 or not? I'm reading it does, but the hud is fucked up?

I guess I'll wait till people know.

I'm sitting here taking photographs of the GOG installer because I'm just so amazed that this day has finally come. What a loser. A happy loser, though.

Is there a patch that makes the controls not so fucking terrible? I can't get used to not being able to walk slightly backwards or strafe without turning around -_-

...Lol. Rebind the strafe/turn keys, the defaults are weirder than the usual but the key functions are the same.

Installed on my Windows 8 laptop, game launches no problems, widescreen resolutions are there out of the box, videos play perfectly, this is so awesome. Seems to have 8xMSAA enabled by default in the cam_ext file.

People are speculating that Nightdrive could be actual developers behind 2.4 patch. No confirmation but it is believable imo as using fan created mods/patches in official releases can be problematic to both sides.

EDIT:

Looks like there is some drama:

waiting for a xpadder controller mod... fucking hate keyboards and mice lol
It won't be possible. Sure, you could map the controller to emulate keyboard and mouse functions but the interface relies so heavily on the mouse that it won't be any fun to play. You'll just be moving a cursor around the screen with an analog stick in order to click on tiny objects and buttons. Does that sound like fun?

I legitimately would love to watch video of someone doing an entire playthrough of this game with a controller.
I still can't believe System Shock 2 was, at one point, being worked on for Sega Dreamcast (and, in fact, a very early build was leaked). I can't imagine how the hell they would have translated the game to a pad with so few buttons.

I can't provide a source or say more, but let's say I have my reasons to believe this isn't the case.
