She must have shouted surprise or something I reckon just after she'd snuck up right close to him whilst he pointed a gun at her...

Police say neighbours heard screaming and shouting around the time of the shooting

...yeah.

How do you shoot someone in the arm and head by accident ?

It wasn't an accident. According to the Castle Doctrine laws in South Africa (posted up thread), you can kill just about any intruder that's on your property. But it's looking like this was a domestic violence dispute and an illegal homicide.

I'm just saying people who tend to have pitbulls, also happen to have certain traits thats all.

Yeah I also read that extensive study linking pitbulls to husbands accidentally fatally shooting their spouses. I really hope I avoid that 'trait'.

._.

*name I don't recognize*

"sports guy?"

sports guy. it's always a sports guy. the only surprise is this isn't someone in the NFL.

Nfl players get arrested at a lower rate than the general populous last I saw. Your comment is stupid and shitty.

That tweet is a bit beyond IMO. It's too easy to forget that there's a grieving family / friends involved here... but ehh, internet.

I just dont see the point of trying to explain the situation as mistaken identity. If you shoot first and ask questions later you deserve to be punished and are not fit to be living in society. Prison is where he belongs unless she was charging at him with a weapon, which is doubtful.

Americans disagree given the spread of Stand Your Ground laws that encourage just that kind of behavior.

I never get the shoot first ask questions later mentality.

There was a thread of a similar story in Florida a man shot his fiance he was going to marry the next day. They live in the same house he wakes up she is not in her bed, he hear noises and the first thing he does is assume its a burglar and get his gun and shoots the first sign of person he sees.

Even if you think its reasonable to assume a burglar is in your home I still think you should confirm its a burglar first and not a person you know.

That's sadly the mentality of many gun owners. They only bought the guns in the first place because they feel that bad guys are out to get them so it's no wonder they would act a little paranoid.

Not blaming any dog

This is such an assinine assumption. You look like a complete idiot with responses like this. Hopefully you're just trolling. No one can be this dumb

Exactly. Just maybe you are not as important as you think you are and an unidentified person doesn't 100 percent mean that they are there to kill you. People who are super paranoid about their property are fucking scary. My dad has a friend who moved to Texas and got into the whole gun culture thing. Carries a concealed weapon and the like. One time he told my dad that he head a noise on his porch and he almost shot the person on the porch who was a fucking police officer. This notion that stranger at night = imminent death for my family is fucked up.

The porch?! You mean that place where people traditionally come to announce their presence to the residents? WTF

This is one of the pitfalls of stand your own ground defense claims. There's always the problem with excessive force. Did 6 shots needs to be taken? what reason did he have to believe his life was in direct danger?

What?

Police have already said the whole thinking it was a burglar was nonsense. Twitter rumors.

I have an old friend who grew up in Johannesburg. He used to talk about the issue with violence in the city. I guess home invasion and murder/kidnapping is/was an issue there. Apparently at the time criminals would follow you home, and attack/rob you as you entered you're house. If there was a car behind him as he was about to pull into his house, he would drive past his house and around the block (or just drive around) and eventualy drive home once there wasn't car behind him. He said this was something many people do for their own protection. If that kind of paranoia is so prevalent I could understand this guy freaking out if there was some one rummaging through his house in the middle of the night.

So her girlfriend isn't allowed to walk in 4am in his house? For those questioning that I mean.
Maybe he wasn't expecting her home? He heard noises, thought some on was there to hurt him and shot at a shadowy figure. I'm not saying he didn't murder her in cold blood but what I described isn't out of the realm of possibility.

lol come on people. This guy is a millionaire and it says right in the article he lives in a gated community. It's not like he's in the middle of the Johannesburg slums. The place probably has it's own private security. There is absolutely no way in hell he actually thought he was being robbed.

The athlete's home is in a high-security up-market gated compound on the outskirts of Pretoria.
