I suck at this

|OT| No, I'm not going to buy the 3DS version, Capcom. If you think I'm going to, I will simply laugh a thousand laughs. Do you hear that sound? It is the sound of me not buying the 3DS version, and instead I will use that money on food for the sick and elderly, you know, the ones who actually need it and not you, the ones who try to take our money for two versions when one version could suffice for semi-portability. This is the price you have to pay, but I will not let these people die for your greed, they are human beings and I will never let you do this to us!

Enjoy your pick XD

The original Tri thread didn't really go for the super clever title, but the simple humor of "Animal Cruelty Made Fun" was what actually piqued my interest in the series which in turn lead to total addiction.

I like Sven's Revenge.

So still no kind of bundle or deal for Canada? EU is getting the Wii U system bundle and amazon.com has the 3DS game + Wii U version discount for buying both. Meanwhile amazon.ca is listing the games for 10 bucks higher than they are on ebgames and future shop. Amazon.ca why are you so terrible?
Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate |OT| This Time You Can Say 'After'!

Oh god, the censor. It brought back memories of PSO which had words like 'toss' and 'cola' inexplicably censored. Although I did get some laughs when people would yell 'GO **** THE MONSTER' or some variation.

Well there will always be quests available that will challenge your skills. Going through all the monsters in itself will take a looot of time, as will "finishing" the single player campaign. After that though, more difficult quests with upgraded monsters / more monsters at once etc will be unlocked. And even earlier quests will have entertainment factor revisiting for cutting down on your time, testing out new equipment/weapons you haven't used before and for reaping the rewards. Then there are the endless variations you can come up with for team play.

It'll be my first Monster Hunter in the series as well. This information pleases me greatly...

I don't get the swen's revenge one.
anyone care to explain?

Sven kept telling everyone that something big was in the works for close to two years but no one believed him. Then he dropped this bomb, which admittedly is very impressive.

So yeah, Sven's Revenge works well.

Question about the 3DS version: will Capcom rebalance the game considering its a complete single player game?

Once again it is the WiiU version that is a port of the 3DS game, not the other way around. There's not going to be any changes like that. There's a strictly single player mode, and then there's the city which you can play alone or with other people. Remember, just because the 3DS doesn't have online doesn't mean you can't play with other people.

It still has local multiplayer. The 3DS version is the original version anyways, it came out in Japan ages ago. So if anything they need to 'rebalance' the Wii U version.

the PSP games typically had offline quests and an 'online' gathering hall for the local multi. However, it was entirely possible to clear them all solo with enough skill and preparation. Monsters generally had more health and were harder to stagger than the singleplayer 'village' quests, but it was manageable.

Tri had full online so it seems to me like they increased monster health (relatively, since Tri is a much easier game than MHFU) even further than what the PSP's online quests did. You could still kill anything solo but it would take a very long time for certain high rank monsters.

I see... well in that case, I vote for
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate |OT| If at first you don't succeed, try Tri again

if this is going to be an international OT, its title shouldn't be based on a certain region's representative. He doesn't mean anything to Australia and Europe.

I cannot fucking WAIT for this. It's my first Monster Hunter, and I am getting Wii U version and playing online with a couple of other friends. It's going to be grand (hopefully).

But just wondering. How do people get so much mileage out of this game? What makes it so replayable?

The quest of getting the best weapon and best armor plays a big part, but the main reason why I'm fond to this series is the incredible feeling of accomplishment when I make a badass monster my bitch.

Such a bloody shame about the region lock, are there many EU players here?
Quite a few (including me =D) and we've got Australian players as well though. But yeah crap about the region locked servers =/

But this one is my favorite.
My feeling is that we must capitalize on this glorious Engrish translation XD

To minimize lag and language barriers, I guess.
They should really implement some preset phrases within the game that when sent to a player from another region into their language to be honest. As for lag they should really implement a better net code or something but yeah...let's hope the next game allows worldwide servers.

I have a suggestion:

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate |OT| The Ultimate Triumph

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate |OT| If at first you don't succeed, try Tri again

...Probably a bit long-winded, eh.

I like this one too.

|OT| Anyone have cold drinks?

Hahaha, this is me at times. I feel like an idiot every time I do that.

They do have preset phrases, however, we can change them, thus making it not possible as translatable preset phrases. As for lag, I think it has to do with the fact that the large monster and players needs to be in sync. I don't know how hard that is.

But if you can choose servers like in Tri, then surely this isn't an issue?

Bloody Capcpom.

Tri had the same region-locked online.

Yeah, for me it's both of those things. Tri was lacking in the latter but online multiplayer made up for it.

My greatest experience with the series was clawing my way to the top of G-rank solo in MHFU and finally bringing down Ukanlos. Even the missions I could 'farm' were intense struggles, like Black Diablos, Dual Nargacuga and Final Invitation. I went in armed to the teeth and prepared like Batman for any eventuality, simply being cautious wasn't enough because of the time limitation. I wasn't just gathering loot to make my character awesome, it felt like it really took everything I had just to progress. I had to master multiple weapon types and make entire sets of gear just to tackle specific missions, and I loved it.

Now, playing online with friends for fun and loot is of course a big draw for people and games like Diablo and Borderlands prove it. But I rarely felt that sense of struggle in Tri. It was nice that I could just kill anything wearing whatever armor I wanted with my beloved hammer, but I usually didn't feel pushed to my limits.

Not saying it was boring - a couple times duoing Deviljho, and my first Alatreon kill being big exceptions. The latter was a group I joined and told me to wear a sleep bombing set, I just wanted the quest out of the way so I complied and brought my sleep SnS. 10 minutes in one guy had died twice and the rest of my group ragequit and left me alone. I kept fighting because why the hell not. Ended up killing him solo with nothing but that shitty sleep SnS with 30 seconds left on the clock. Now that's a good feeling.

Even the not-so-challenging fights were quite entertaining because I had a fairly solid group of fun people. It was an interesting experience from someone who had spent hundreds of hours as a solo hunter, like a totally different game but my skills were still there.

I'm hoping g-rank in this game can give me the best of both worlds even though I'm probably super rusty at this point. I'm prepared to buy a Wii U to find out, that's how glorious Monster Hunter can be.

Going solo I found the only problem was time. I was constantly worried about it when there were about 10 minutes left on the clock and the monster was only now limping. That wasn't a good sign.

It's always fun climbing up the ranks in MH though. Especially when you destroy a monster that completely tormented you before.

The loot for different armor sets is sometimes incredibly rare, and there's thousands of combinations to make.

Also, hunting the same monster is never exactly the same no matter how many times you do it.
