I just can't fathom Bungie releasing a 360 game in 2014.

Just seems totally absurd.

It's just such an awkward time to launch a new AAA franchise, especially one with (presumably) yearly updates.

If this is supposed to be a decade-long experience, it's only logical that it belongs on next-gen. But Bungie has been working on the game as a 360 release since day one. And of course they can't announce games for consoles that don't officially exist yet.

I would be blown away if this doesn't come out in 2013. Why even bother releasing a 360 or PS3 version of Destiny after Orbis/Durango drop?

I'm just all sorts of confused.

So once this get released Bungie will be called "Inovators"(MP comments) even if Sony started it with Demon Souls and Journey. Which means once again when sony does it in their games, they will be called copy cats (remember Kinect and how original it was? (everyone forgot Eyetoy)The glorified Eyetoy that's all Kinect is).

Wrong. I'm disappointed because what they've been working on for all these years is simply a mashup of Test Drive Unlimited/Guild Wars/PSO/Borderlands and due to the fact that they hyped all this shit up to release a bunch of non-info that amounts to "The game is totally awesome, guise! trust us!".

I think this game has potential, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Your dream is a worthy one, but Bungie didn't show any of that today - it was all talk. Even for the press that went out of their way to see it.

So you can't be excited about the possibilities? And hope for a successful solution? We all have to instantly play the skeptic that brushes it off as another Halo mixed with some other stuff?

Yet gamers constantly funnel money into Kickstarters that show way less and have a MUCH MUCH less impressive team behind it. I don't understand the need to jump on the side of negativity/reluctance... these are just games. It seems to have a A LOT of promise and they are really pushing to try something new. The team seems to also be really passionate about working on it.

And what's with this logic of, "they have been working on it for a while, they have to show everything they have done". Game development (especially new IP) is not some straight A to B process, it's an evolution and constant iteration/diversion. The process can take a long time...

And I'm all for developers talking it up, striving for ambitious "impossible" goals. It's only healthy for the industry and playing it safe gets us nowhere... and it's not like Bungie has a horrible track record.

Again this is a lot of info as well:

I imagine we will see more robust preorder bonuses are the game actually nears launch.

I'm not so sure that applies anymore. Seems to be launching on PS3/360 at the same time.

I think it's still unsure. Amazon has the game listed for December 31st. But what was interesting is IGN stated Activision have said to investors that they don't aim to make any revenue from Bungie this year, suggesting the game won't even be released this year.

Seems like there's still abit of mystery surrounding the release date. If it was only 8 months away (as an earlier rumour suggested) you would think they might be showing more or hinting towards a date. Seems like it's still a fair bit off.

i know, but what did we see? a few characters running around in environments? it was gameplay footage, but with no game play. doesnt inspire much confidence.

You are jumping to conclusions mate.

For all we know at this stage it is getting play tested on Durango and Orbis as we speak. It is impossible to judge the state of the game on any platform from this footage.

Well it probably makes sense for some titles, but I can't see it for this game either.

They name dropped Demon's Souls, from the sound of it, so...

It should start to make more sense in the coming months once we have release dates for the next gen consoles. A 2014 release for last-gen would be a very risky move. I can see the 360 | nextbox side-by-side stills already.

Sony didn't develop any part of Demons Souls.

Everything about this game screams current gen from the engine to the textures to the lighting. Whether this game is released on the 360/PS3 or not will make no difference, the only way that the next gen versions will look different is running at a higher resolution. Unless they scrap everything they've done so far and start over again, releasing the game only on next gen won't make any difference.

Demon's Souls was not a first party Sony title, it just happened to be exclusive to the PS3.

So yea it was fucking nothing. The ground textures look like shit and we didn't find out much we didn't already know. Where are all the details?

I seriously doubt they be showing PS4 footage of Destiny at that event, I still think that contract for 1 year exclusive to next Xbox is still in place even though it is old. Look how scared shitless Activison was about pissing off MS in past, Durango Destiny footage will be at E3 on stage in Microsoft's presentation more than likely. Unless this thing turns out so unimpressive MS decides not even care and decides they don't want to wate any monies.

did they actually have a 1 year contract? Somehow things have changed as it seems like 360/ps3 are launching at the same time? I remember reading in the leaked docs, it depended on whether or not they could get the ps3 version up to the same "quality" as the 360 version. It appears they were able to.

You do realise that in 2014 ps360 still have 150 million owners combined, while ps720 will probably be at about 10 million at the end?

I can't get excited about the possibilities, no, because what Bungie is trying to sell me is something that hundreds of other MMO devs have been trying to sell me and millions of other people for years and years. I have a long history with MMO-type games and I have damn good reasons to be suspect of this entire mess of a revealing and their game.

They have a lot to prove after all the claims they made in that ViDoc and right now I'm not buying any of it. I would like to be proven wrong and have the game turn out to be amazing, but I would also like to be a millionaire and look like Joseph Gordon Levitt.

They haven't actually confirmed it's a persistent world I think. They've confirmed that characters are persistent, the game is always connected, and it is server based. But they have not really confirmed if missions are instances or on a persistent landscape, nor have they confirmed single dedicated servers. At least, not that I remember reading. It could very well be like Guild Wars.

They actually never said that. Could be instance based and just a set of MP missions.

Bungie is being very liberal with saying "meet other players out in the world" if they mean you link up at hubs and go into instances.

You need to stop caring about Sony like they give a shit what you or internet message board posters say or feel. Games are meant to be fun. Stop giving a shit who came first.

I was only concerned about the aging tech and how that could hinder the presentation of Destiny, especially in comparison to the next gen consoles.

Have they said anything about microtransactions?

with how's it all sounding i'd be really surprised if they dont try to monetize pieces of DLC or Cosmetic stuff and whatnot

Seemed a bit of a rushed announcement really. A company like Bungie going off the radar for so long to just show a few seconds of gameplay in a 3 minutes video was certainly underwhelming. The press twitters are also indicative of that. I expect the game to be excellent but this unveil just confirmed my first thoughts that the scheduling of this event was awkward.

Demon's Souls was not a first party Sony title, it just happened to be exclusive to the PS3.

Sony own the IP, it's essentially first party but they let the rug be pulled out from under them and didn't capitalise quickly enough. The fact that the game took months to release in other regions is testament to their blind ignorance of how appealing the IP would be in a sea of one button press, auto gaming.
