I've printed over 100 so far. Granted was over course of several months. It may ended up costing me $50 for the prints, but that was really nothing as it was spread out.

Only 0.50? That's pretty cheap. FedEx Kinkos is overpriced. I might consider doing this for a majority of my SNES games.
 
heh. Yeah, you will want to go to an actual store like Office Max or Staples that does printing. Just put them all on a thumbdrive or SD card and tell them to print them all on normal size paper. You should also tell them to have it be fit to paper horizontally. There will be a good bit of white space on top and bottom when they are printed. Just cut them off. (I use one of those ruler paper cuter things, no idea the name, but you just lie the paper on it flat and slide the blade across.)

This is exactly what I plan on doing. Currently they're just sitting on a book shelf that is beyond full with Genesis/NES/SNES stuff. At least the Genesis games have their cases and I have those black sleeves for all my NES games. SNES stuff is just laying there naked getting dirty.

I wonder if there is anywhere online you could order those prints from or if your best bet is just going to Office Max or something.

that's ultimately what I want to do. I don't really care for CiB games, especially when you can just get plastic cases cheaply that can actually serve a storage/display purpose and print off all the pretty cover art.

This is a great point spend all the cash on boxed games and eventually they will get ware etc. I like this idea thanks for posting guys I'll have to invest in a box when I get enough to warrant the purchase.

No idea, but I'm sure they do. NES games don't fit however. I had to modify those myself by melting the plastic holders inside with a soldering iron.

This thread motivated me to pull my collection out of the closet and take some pics. Most of the games are CIB (some are missing the paper inserts) and I also have the original SNES console with Super Mario World pack-in. There's no doubt that the SNES was my favorite gaming system of all time.

Even if I get it CIB, I never keep them in the box. Better for protection against dust/etc to put them in a case. Plus that way I don't have to worry about damaging the box every time I try to open it.
 
Went out today with the intention of getting DKC1 from a nearby store, and ended up buying Breath of Fire (Which totally wasn't there the last time I was there) along with it. Ended up paying $30 altogether.

I have to fiddle around to get BoF to boot (Gonna try some contact cleaner with a q-tip in a sec) but other than that, I'm satisfied.
 
Nice find. Everyone here makes me kind of jelous to not have any flea markets or retro game stores near by.

In other news, I just bought a Super Scope off of eBay recently, CIB. I had one as a kid, but eventually I dumbly broke it. I will later need to re-buy Yoshi's Safari. Anyone ever try the Super Scope before?
 
How long does it take for yours to print? I assume you have a high quality printer? Before I tried the Offic Max route for printing, took nearly an hour to do 8 and destroyed my ink. lol.
 
So I replaced a cartridge battery for the first time last night and it wasn't too bad. I'm thinking of doing this to all of my carts, does anybody else replace the battery once you get a game even if it saves just fine. Personally I put in about 15-20 hours towards LTTP and I lost it all due to a failing battery. I don't want to go through that again.

I dunno... In my 20 years of collecting I've never had a bad battery. It will happen eventually, and some time down the road it might be a smart idea to implement a policy as you say. But right now I wouldn't want to kill those original SNES batteries before their time ;) It is evident that the "5 year lifetime" promised by the manual was a massive understatement.

Except Pokemon Gold and Silver on GBC. Those had internal clocks that constantly eat the battery, and those are very likely DOA.

Yeah, I'm thinking I might have to do this with some of mine. My Breath of Fire and Mario All-Stars carts seem to be dead, but Donkey Kong Country and Earthbound still save fine.

Earthbound in particular's cartridge feels a bit loose, and I can kinda make the board inside rattle ever so slightly if I shake it, so I have a nagging suspicion that whoever owned the cart before me replaced the internal battery.

picked up FF2 cart, plus Gyromite, SMB/Duck Hunt/Track, and Ultima Exodus for NES, and Bonk's Revenge TG16 complete for $60 today.

They also had a CIB Secret of Mana, but it was $80. Still hoping to come across a cart for $40ish.
 
Speaking of retro collecting, I just recently purchased a Sega 32x and a Sega CD. I got a crash course in how much the 32x sucks ass. I basically have to open it up and play with those two white computer ribbons inside in order for it to boot games, which I hear is a common issue with them. What a pain in the ass and the three games I have (Star Wars Arcade, Doom, and Shadow Squadron) aren't even worth the trouble to play.

My last Super Nintendo addition was Secret of Mana, which I found for $50 in fantastic shape. I also found a shop with Chrono Trigger but they wanted $130 for it and the label was in terrible shape.

Was just looking today for Super Scopes on ebay I loved mine as a kid that mech game was fun and played the shit out of it. Have fun with it of course pics please.
 
I wonder what they would have said if you tried to talk em down. I seriously cant see how people think someone will buy a hard to find game for premium prices...in really bad condition.

Oh, Shadow Squadron is! That is a great game. Fully 3D space shooter. Full open stages where you can turn in any direction without limits.

But why do you have to open up the 32X or Genesis? For the 32X, you just place it in the cart slot and connect the cable from the 32X to the Genesis. The only major issue you might have is depending on which 32X to Genesis connector you have as well as which model of the Genesis you have. Sega were really dumb and didn't think things through when it came to the different model Genesis and how different connectors/cables don't work on different models...

There is an issue with 32x systems where two computer ribbons inside of the unit can become easily disconnected. I had an issue where I put a cartridge in and it will pop up with the white Sega credits information (before the Sega logo always appears) and the screen would just turn black and not do anything. I opened it up and pressed in those ribbons and BAM, worked. After I screwed it all back together and plugged it back in it started doing it again, so I stripped the screws and pressed the ribbons in again and it worked. I could have a super faulty unit but I did some research and a lot of people have this issue so it is suppose to be a flaw.

Shadow Squadron is fun, but flight combat games have never been a huge thing for me.
 
I'd like to implore retro collectors to stop rewarding high BIN listings. Start making those sellers list actual auctions with a low starting bid.

Sadly, they never learn. When it comes to highly wanted, but plenty of auctions, like Earthbound or Chrono Trigger, those CIB will never get them anywhere. But for auctions/etc for games that are wanted but few games are on the site, there is sadly no incentive to lower their price, and sadly if anyone really wants it, they have to play by their rules.

It's one of the things I dislike about trying to get Saturn games, a lot of wanted games, but so few auctions, so jacked up prices.

I agree but the problem is there are a lot of awful and crummy buyers who make things hell for sellers. I hardly do auctions now because of the host of non paying buyers.
