Will the characters be that sluggish in the full game? Because the movement speed in the demo is atrocious
Hold R to sprint. Eat well done meat to have higher stamina. You can only move quickly while your weapon is up.

Yeah I was just thinking, whoever makes the OT for this should probably include a newbie guide to which weapons are easy to start with, the basics of each weapon type, picking up and making the most of your supply items, buffing, etc.we need a monster hunter FAQ up in here, seems like a lot of new comers
Since I want to give this game a fair chance I keep trying different weapons. I tried the Dual Blades and I am actually having a MUCH better time now, any other weapons similar to this one?

I don't even know how you can say that the game is ugly. What is a beautiful 3DS game to you?
It's so good graphically on 3DS I hope Capcom licenses out its engine to other 3DS developers.
The game looks and plays beautifully.
I haven't been using the touch screen much. By management you mean selecting which items you want to use for example without having to press L+button? If that's the case I definitely see that being pretty handy.
On the 3DS, the analog for movement is in the middle and the camera options are above and below you, this makes it really cumbersome to keep the camera moving and breaks the gameplay flow considerably.
no, you don't. you got used to one style on PSP and are now having trouble with another style on 3DS. the irony of MH vets complaining about controls is gold though.Man, the 3DS controls are terrible, what a bummer.
I was playing Freedom Unite on PSP today, so I have a good frame of reference.

I was playing Freedom Unite on PSP today, so I have a good frame of reference. The camera there is easier to use based on the button placement: analog for movement at the bottom, camera options above your fingers (d-pad and L button)
On the 3DS, the analog for movement is in the middle and the camera options are above and below you, this makes it really cumbersome to keep the camera moving and breaks the gameplay flow considerably.
Not a terrible thing for the land stuff, but turns the underwater fights into a mess. Fighting the Lagi in the swamp with these controls will be a nightmare.
Wii U version is perfect though, even moreso after the patch.
try this makes it easier. When in a room with a big monster tap the monsters icon in the lower right if your touch screen and a target should appear on the icon. It's now set to center on the monster when you tap L.
For new hunters:
1) start with Dual Swords, Sword and Shield or Lance (Lance especially to learn monster patterns)
2)DO NOT GET GREEDY. Roll out or move away after 3-4 combo attack unless the monster is down or trapped
3)Don't use potions etc near monster. use them when they are far or focusing on other players
4)Always keep your weapons sharpened.
Most importantly, you will probably fail or barely scrape by at first but you WILL get better with practice. This isn't your modern hand-holding cinematic visceral game. You will be proud of yourself once you master the weapons and monster.
Welcome to Monster Hunting. This game, playing online with friends, will be one of your most memorable gaming experiences.
What?
What?
Either way, after reading this thread there are too many people defending the game. Everyone gets something different of the game and I feel like the silly camera issues is something they should fix. Fighting control shouldn't be something we have to do in a game. The challenge should come from other areas. This is my opinion, of course, but after playing the demo I can easily see why people wouldn't like it.
Just tried both Demos, so awesome! Ready to start my Monster Hunter addiction all over again!~
Ooh. There's an animation around the hunter when ice blight is active now?I'm streaming now [in 720p] if you guys and gals want to watch me try out the different weapons against the two monsters in the demo:

the tutorials could definitely use some work.
This demo has made me weary of picking up the game. I'd never played an MH game until this demo and I found it somewhat clunky, and the boss fight was long and tedious. What's the draw with MH?

It's already got ahold of meLoving these dual swords, absolutely tore up Lagombi
my biggest gripe with the (3ds) demo is that the text is kinda blurry and the player icon on the map is so small i can't tell which way it points
It's more fun with other people.
The appeal is basically loot.
Be proud of me MHGaf. Irrespective of noobness I best both quests on the first go. Although the combat is much faster, Dark souls payed off.
I don't think the demo does but I was referring mainly to the actual game not teaching you much beyond the basic controls. Is there even a tutorial? I didn't see any. I downloaded this demo yesterday and a few of my friends tried it (including me). I keep telling them that I think this game is popular for a reason, but nobody liked it. They should have told you at least a bit of explanatation, jesus. I'll give it another try, sad to see that it's not more open to newcomers. Saying that that lightning speed Bunny gliding asshole is EASY is what makes it frustrating too.

Castlevania demo also has self shadowing, so does Ace Combat. Probably other games as well. This game has self shadowing.
A 3DS game has self shadowing.
I haven't seen that since SSFIV3D.
I'm assuming it's basically the same engine though (MT Framework Mobile, right?).
Was playing on WUUUUUWell done good sir. I played a gross amount of MH3 and the underwater controls on 3DS got the best of me, ran out of time. Definitely picking up that CPP XL at launch. The lock on worked well enough for me on land though.
did you try tapping on the map, it zooms in.
Circle Pad Pro XL preordered!
And Plesios runs away for the fourth time in one round. Nope. Sorry, Gaf. 3DS version is done. I'll try WiiU tomorrow.
lol yeah imo WiiU is the way to go if you can.
I managed to take down the first boss with the hammer chick, is that an accomplishment? It felt so fucking slow and clunky, yet powerful.
When you start up the demo it says it doesn't support the Circle Pad Pro. Is the final game different?
